לְקָצִ֑ין

that we may fight

וְנִֽלָּחֲמָ֖ה

with the children

לְזִקְנֵ֣י

of Gilead

אַתֶּם֙

Did not ye hate

שְׂנֵאתֶ֣ם

 

אוֹתִ֔י

me and expel

וַתְּגָֽרְשׁ֖וּנִי

house

מִבֵּ֣ית

me out of my father's

וּמַדּ֜וּעַ

and why are ye come

בָּאתֶ֤ם

עַ֔תָּה

Therefore we turn again

שַׁ֣בְנוּ

 

אֵלֶ֔יךָ

to thee now that thou mayest go

וְהָֽלַכְתָּ֣

 

עִמָּ֔נוּ

with us and fight

וְנִלְחַמְתָּ֖

against the children

בִּבְנֵ֣י

of Ammon

עַמּ֑וֹן

 

וְהָיִ֤יתָ

 

לָּ֙נוּ֙

and be our head

לְרֹ֔אשׁ

 

לְכֹ֖ל

over all the inhabitants

יֹֽשְׁבֵ֥י

of Gilead

גִלְעָֽד׃

said

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

And Jephthah

unto the elders

If ye bring me home again

לְהִלָּחֵם֙

against the children

בִּבְנֵ֣י

of Ammon

וְנָתַ֧ן

and the LORD

יְהוָ֛ה

 

אוֹתָ֖ם

them before

לְפָנָ֑י

 

אָֽנֹכִ֕י

 

אֶֽהְיֶ֥ה

me shall I be your head

לְרֹֽאשׁ׃

The LORD

and she was his only child

וְרֵֽעיֹתָֽי׃

And he said

And he sent her away

וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח

 

אוֹתָ֖הּ

for two

שְׁנֵ֣י

months

חֳדָשִׁ֑ים

 

וַתֵּ֤לֶךְ

 

הִיא֙

with her companions

וְרֵ֣עוֹתֶ֔יהָ

and bewailed

וַתֵּ֥בְךְּ

 

עַל

her virginity

בְּתוּלֶ֖יהָ

 

עַל

upon the mountains

הֶֽהָרִֽים׃

 

וַיְהִ֞י

And it came to pass at the end

מִקֵּ֣ץ׀

of two

שְׁנַ֣יִם

months

חֳדָשִׁ֗ים

that she returned

וַתָּ֙שָׁב֙

 

אֶל

unto her father

אָבִ֔יהָ

who did

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ

 

לָ֔הּ

 

אֶת

with her according to his vow

נִדְר֖וֹ

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

which he had vowed

נָדָ֑ר

 

וְהִיא֙

 

לֹֽא

and she knew

יָדְעָ֣ה

no man

אִ֔ישׁ

 

וַתְּהִי

And it was a custom

חֹ֖ק

in Israel

בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

days

יָמִ֖ים

תֵּלַ֙כְנָה֙

That the daughters

לְבַת

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

to lament

לְתַנּ֕וֹת

That the daughters

לְבַת

of Jephthah

יִפְתָּ֖ח

the Gileadite

הַגִּלְעָדִ֑י
