בַשְּׁעָרִֽים׃

וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח

That Sanballat

סַנְבַלַּ֤ט

and Geshem

וְגֶ֙שֶׁם֙

 

אֵלַ֣י

unto me saying

לֵאמֹ֔ר

 

לְכָ֞ה

let us meet

וְנִֽוָּעֲדָ֥ה

together

יַחְדָּ֛ו

in some one of the villages

בַּכְּפִירִ֖ים

in the plain

בְּבִקְעַ֣ת

of Ono

אוֹנ֑וֹ

 

וְהֵ֙מָּה֙

But they thought

חֹֽשְׁבִ֔ים

to do

לַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת

 

לִ֖י

me mischief

רָעָֽה׃

And I sent

וָֽאֶשְׁלְחָ֨ה

 

עֲלֵיהֶ֤ם

messengers

מַלְאָכִים֙

unto them saying

לֵאמֹ֔ר

why should the work

הַמְּלָאכָה֙

a great

גְדוֹלָה֙

 

אֲנִ֣י

I am doing

עֹשֶׂ֔ה

 

וְלֹ֥א

so that I cannot

אוּכַ֖ל

come down

וְיָֽרַדְתִּ֖י

 

לָ֣מָּה

cease

תִשְׁבַּ֤ת

why should the work

הַמְּלָאכָה֙

whilst

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר

I leave

אַרְפֶּ֔הָ

come down

וְיָֽרַדְתִּ֖י

 

אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃

Yet they sent

וַיִּשְׁלְח֥וּ

 

אֵלַ֛י

after this sort

כַּדָּבָ֥ר

 

הַזֶּ֖ה

unto me four

אַרְבַּ֣ע

times

פְּעָמִ֑ים

and I answered

וָֽאָשִׁ֥יב

 

אוֹתָ֖ם

הַזֶּֽה׃

Then sent

וַיִּשְׁלַח֩

 

אֵלַ֨י

Sanballat

סַנְבַלַּ֜ט

unto me in like manner

כַּדָּבָ֥ר

 

הַזֶּ֛ה

It is reported

נִשְׁמָע֙

וְגַשְׁמ֣וּ

אַתָּ֤ה

it that thou and the Jews

וְהַיְּהוּדִים֙

think

חֹֽשְׁבִ֣ים

to rebel

לִמְר֔וֹד

 

עַל

for which cause

כֵּ֛ן

 

אַתָּ֥ה

thou buildest

בוֹנֶ֖ה

the wall

הַֽחוֹמָ֑ה

 

וְאַתָּ֗ה

that thou mayest be

הוֶֹ֤ה

 

לָהֶם֙

their king

לְמֶ֔לֶךְ

according to these words

כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים

 

הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

 

וְגַם

prophets

נְבִיאִ֡ים

And thou hast also appointed

הֶֽעֱמַ֣דְתָּ

to preach

לִקְרֹא֩

 

עָלֶ֨יךָ

of thee at Jerusalem

בִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֜ם

saying

לֵאמֹ֗ר

There is a king

לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ

in Judah

בִּֽיהוּדָ֔ה

 

וְעַתָּה֙

and now shall it be reported

יִשָּׁמַ֣ע

There is a king

לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ

according to these words

כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים

 

הָאֵ֑לֶּה

 

וְעַתָּ֣ה

 

לְכָ֔ה

now therefore and let us take counsel

וְנִֽוָּעֲצָ֖ה

together

יַחְדָּֽו׃

Then I sent

וָֽאֶשְׁלְחָ֤ה

 

אֵלָיו֙

as thou sayest

אוֹמֵ֑ר

 

לֹ֤א

There are

נִֽהְיָה֙

no such things

כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים

 

הָאֵ֔לֶּה

 

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

 

אַתָּ֣ה

as thou sayest

אוֹמֵ֑ר

 

כִּ֥י

them out of thine own heart

מִֽלִּבְּךָ֖

 

אַתָּ֥ה

but thou feignest

בוֹדָֽאם׃

 

כִּ֣י

 

כֻלָּ֗ם

For they all made us afraid

מְיָֽרְאִ֤ים

 

אוֹתָ֙נוּ֙

saying

לֵאמֹ֔ר

shall be weakened

יִרְפּ֧וּ

Their hands

יָדָֽי׃

 

מִן

from the work

הַמְּלָאכָ֖ה

 

וְלֹ֣א

that it be not done

תֵֽעָשֶׂ֑ה

 

וְעַתָּ֖ה

Now therefore O God strengthen

חַזֵּ֥ק

I will not go in

אָבֽוֹא׃

And lo I perceived

וָֽאַכִּ֕ירָה

 

וְהִנֵּ֥ה

 

לֹֽא

that God

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

had not sent

שְׁלָח֑וֹ

 

כִּ֤י

this prophecy

הַנְּבוּאָה֙

him but that he pronounced

דִּבֶּ֣ר

 

עָלַ֔י

against me for Tobiah

וְטֽוֹבִיָּ֥ה

and Sanballat

וְסַנְבַלַּ֖ט

had hired

שְׂכָרֽוֹ׃

 

לְמַ֤עַן

Therefore was he hired

שָׂכוּר֙

 

ה֔וּא

 

לְמַֽעַן

that I should be afraid

אִירָ֥א

and do so

וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה

 

כֵּ֖ן

and sin

וְחָטָ֑אתִי

 

וְהָיָ֤ה

 

לָהֶם֙

report

לְשֵׁ֣ם

and that they might have matter for an evil

רָ֔ע

 

לְמַ֖עַן

that they might reproach

יְחָֽרְפֽוּנִי׃

think

זָכְרָ֧ה

My God

אֱלֹהַ֛י

thou upon Tobiah

לְטֽוֹבִיָּ֥ה

and Sanballat

וּלְסַנְבַלַּ֖ט

according to these their works

כְּמַֽעֲשָׂ֣יו

לְנֽוֹעַדְיָ֤ה

and on the prophetess

הַנְּבִיאָה֙

וּלְיֶ֣תֶר

הָי֖וּ

that would have put me in fear

מְיָֽרְאִ֥ים

 

אוֹתִֽי׃

וַתִּשְׁלַם֙

So the wall

הַֽחוֹמָ֔ה

in the twenty

בְּעֶשְׂרִ֥ים

and fifth

וַֽחֲמִשָּׁ֖ה

day of the month Elul

לֶֽאֱל֑וּל

in fifty

לַֽחֲמִשִּׁ֥ים

וּשְׁנַ֖יִם

days

יֽוֹם׃

 

וַיְהִ֗י

 

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֤ר

heard

שָֽׁמְעוּ֙

 

כָּל

And it came to pass that when all our enemies

א֣וֹיְבֵ֔ינוּ

saw

וַיִּֽרְא֗וּ

 

כָּל

thereof and all the heathen

הַגּוֹיִם֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

that were about us

סְבִֽיבֹתֵ֔ינוּ

cast down

וַיִּפְּל֥וּ

these things they were much

מְאֹ֖ד

in their own eyes

בְּעֵֽינֵיהֶ֑ם

for they perceived

וַיֵּ֣דְע֔וּ

 

כִּ֚י

 

מֵאֵ֣ת

of our God

אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ

was wrought

נֶֽעֶשְׂתָ֖ה

that this work

הַמְּלָאכָ֥ה

 

הַזֹּֽאת׃

 

גַּ֣ם׀

Moreover in those days

בַּיָּמִ֣ים

 

הָהֵ֗ם

many

מַרְבִּ֞ים

the nobles

חֹרֵ֤י

of Judah

יְהוּדָה֙

letters

אִגְּרֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם

sent

הֽוֹלְכ֖וֹת

 

עַל

and the letters of Tobiah

לְטֽוֹבִיָּ֖ה

 

וַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר

and the letters of Tobiah

לְטֽוֹבִיָּ֖ה

came

בָּא֥וֹת

 

אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

 

כִּֽי

For there were many

רַבִּ֣ים

in Judah

בִּֽיהוּדָ֗ה

sworn

בַּֽעֲלֵ֤י

 

שְׁבוּעָה֙

 

ל֔וֹ

 

כִּֽי

unto him because he was the son in law

חָתָ֥ן

 

ה֖וּא

of Shechaniah

לִשְׁכַנְיָ֣ה

and his son

בֶּ֥ן

of Arah

אָרַ֑ח

Johanan

וִֽיהוֹחָנָ֣ן

and his son

בֶּ֥ן

had taken

לָקַ֕ח

 

אֶת

the daughter

בַּת

of Meshullam

מְשֻׁלָּ֖ם

and his son

בֶּ֥ן

of Berechiah

בֶּֽרֶכְיָֽה׃

 

גַּ֣ם

his good deeds

טֽוֹבֹתָ֗יו

 

הָי֤וּ

Also they reported

אֹֽמְרִים֙

before

לְפָנַ֔י

my words

וּדְבָרַ֕י

 

הָי֥וּ

me and uttered

מֽוֹצִיאִ֖ים

 

ל֑וֹ

letters

אִגְּר֛וֹת

sent

שָׁלַ֥ח

to him And Tobiah

טֽוֹבִיָּ֖ה

to put me in fear

לְיָֽרְאֵֽנִי׃
