דְבָרִֽי׃

 

וַיְהִ֥י

And the word

דְבַר

of the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

 

אֵלָ֥יו

came unto him saying

לֵאמֹֽר׃

 

לֵ֣ךְ

 

מִזֶּ֔ה

thee hence and turn

וּפָנִ֥יתָ

 

לְּךָ֖

thee eastward

קֵ֑דְמָה

and hide

וְנִסְתַּרְתָּ֙

thyself by the brook

בְּנַ֣חַל

Cherith

כְּרִ֔ית

 

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

 

עַל

that is before

פְּנֵ֥י

Jordan

הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

 

וְהָיָ֖ה

of the brook

מֵֽהַנַּ֣חַל

And it shall be that thou shalt drink

תִּשְׁתֶּ֑ה

 

וְאֶת

the ravens

הָעֹֽרְבִ֣ים

and I have commanded

צִוִּ֔יתִי

to feed

לְכַלְכֶּלְךָ֖

 

שָֽׁם׃

 

וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ

and did

וַיַּ֖עַשׂ

according unto the word

כִּדְבַ֣ר

of the LORD

יְהוָ֑ה

 

וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ

and dwelt

וַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙

by the brook

בְּנַ֣חַל

כְּרִ֔ית

 

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

 

עַל

that is before

פְּנֵ֥י

הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

And the ravens

וְהָעֹֽרְבִ֗ים

brought

מְבִאִ֨ים

 

ל֜וֹ

and bread

וְלֶ֥חֶם

and flesh

וּבָשָׂ֖ר

in the morning

בַּבֹּ֔קֶר

and bread

וְלֶ֥חֶם

and flesh

וּבָשָׂ֖ר

in the evening

בָּעָ֑רֶב

 

וּמִן

of the brook

הַנַּ֖חַל

and he drank

יִשְׁתֶּֽה׃

 

וַיְהִ֛י

And it came to pass after

מִקֵּ֥ץ

a while

יָמִ֖ים

dried up

וַיִּיבַ֣שׁ

that the brook

הַנָּ֑חַל

 

כִּ֛י

 

לֹֽא

 

הָיָ֥ה

because there had been no rain

גֶ֖שֶׁם

in the land

בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

 

וַיְהִ֥י

And the word

דְבַר

of the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

 

אֵלָ֥יו

came unto him saying

לֵאמֹֽר׃

Arise

ק֣וּם

 

לֵ֤ךְ

thee to Zarephath

צָֽרְפַ֙תָה֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

which belongeth to Zidon

לְצִיד֔וֹן

and dwell

וְיָֽשַׁבְתָּ֖

 

שָׁ֑ם

 

הִנֵּ֨ה

there behold I have commanded

צִוִּ֥יתִי

 

שָׁ֛ם

woman

אִשָּׁ֥ה

a widow

אַלְמָנָ֖ה

there to sustain

לְכַלְכְּלֶֽךָ׃

So he arose

וַיָּ֣קָם׀

 

וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ

to Zarephath

צָֽרְפַ֗תָה

And when he came

וַיָּבֹא֙

 

אֶל

to the gate

פֶּ֣תַח

of the city

הָעִ֔יר

 

וְהִנֵּה

 

שָׁ֛ם

woman

אִשָּׁ֥ה

behold the widow

אַלְמָנָ֖ה

was there gathering

מְקֹשֶׁ֣שֶׁת

of sticks

עֵצִ֑ים

and he called

וַיִּקְרָ֤א

 

אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙

to her and said

וַיֹּאמַ֔ר

Fetch

קְחִי

 

נָ֨א

 

לִ֧י

me I pray thee a little

מְעַט

water

מַ֛יִם

in a vessel

בַּכְּלִ֖י

that I may drink

וְאֶשְׁתֶּֽה׃

 

וַתֵּ֖לֶךְ

Bring

לִֽקְחִי

it he called

וַיִּקְרָ֤א

 

אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙

to her and said

וַיֹּאמַ֔ר

Bring

לִֽקְחִי

 

נָ֥א

 

לִ֛י

me I pray thee a morsel

of bread

לֶ֖חֶם

in thine hand

בְּיָדֵֽךְ׃

And she said

וַתֹּ֗אמֶר

liveth

As the LORD

יְהוָ֤ה

אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙

I have

יֶשׁ

 

לִ֣י

not a cake

מָע֔וֹג

 

כִּ֣י

 

אִם

but an handful

מְלֹ֤א

 

כַף

of meal

קֶ֙מַח֙

in a barrel

בַּכַּ֔ד

and a little

וּמְעַט

oil

שֶׁ֖מֶן

in a cruse

בַּצַּפָּ֑חַת

 

וְהִנְנִ֨י

and behold I am gathering

מְקֹשֶׁ֜שֶׁת

two

שְׁנַ֣יִם

sticks

עֵצִ֗ים

that I may go in

וּבָ֙אתִי֙

and dress

וַֽעֲשִׂיתִ֙יהוּ֙

 

לִ֣י

it for me and my son

וְלִבְנִ֔י

that we may eat

וַֽאֲכַלְנֻ֖הוּ

it and die

וָמָֽתְנוּ׃

said

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

 

אֵלֶ֤יהָ

And Elijah

אֵֽלִיָּ֙הוּ֙

unto her Fear

תִּ֣ירְאִ֔י

not go

בֹּ֖אִי

and do

תַּֽעֲשִׂ֖י

as thou hast said

כִדְבָרֵ֑ךְ

 

אַ֣ךְ

and do

תַּֽעֲשִׂ֖י

 

לִ֣י

me thereof

עֻגָ֨ה

קְטַנָּ֤ה

בָרִֽאשֹׁנָה֙

until the day

sendeth

תֵּתן

that the LORD

יְהוָ֛ה

rain

עַל

פְּנֵ֥י

הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

 

וַתֵּ֥לֶךְ

and did

וַֽתַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה

according to the saying

כִּדְבַ֣ר

of Elijah

אֵֽלִיָּ֑הוּ

did eat

וַתֹּ֧אכַל

 

הִֽוא

 

וָה֛יּא

and she and he and her house

וּבֵיתָ֖הּ

many days

יָמִֽים׃

And the barrel

כַּ֤ד

הַקֶּ֙מַח֙

 

לֹ֣א

wasted

כָלָ֔תָה

not neither did the cruse

וְצַפַּ֥חַת

הַשֶּׁ֖מֶן

of the LORD

which he spake

Elijah

וַיְהִ֗י

And it came to pass after

אַחַר֙

these things

הַדְּבָרִ֣ים

 

הָאֵ֔לֶּה

fell sick

חָלָ֕ה

that the son

בֶּן

of the woman

הָֽאִשָּׁ֖ה

the mistress

בַּֽעֲלַ֣ת

of the house

הַבָּ֑יִת

 

וַיְהִ֤י

and his sickness

חָלְיוֹ֙

sore

חָזָ֣ק

was so

מְאֹ֔ד

 

עַ֛ד

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

 

לֹא

left

נֽוֹתְרָה

 

בּ֖וֹ

that there was no breath

נְשָׁמָֽה׃

And she said

וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

אֶל

unto Elijah

אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ

 

מַה

 

לִּ֥י

 

וָלָ֖ךְ

What have I to do with thee O thou man

אִ֣ישׁ

of God

הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים

art thou come

בָּ֧אתָ

 

אֵלַ֛י

to remembrance

לְהַזְכִּ֥יר

 

אֶת

my sin

עֲוֹנִ֖י

and to slay

וּלְהָמִ֥ית

 

אֶת

my son

בְּנִֽי׃

And he said

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

 

אֵלֶ֖יהָ

unto her Give

תְּנִי

 

לִ֣י

 

אֶת

me thy son

בְּנֵ֑ךְ

And he took

וַיִּקָּחֵ֣הוּ

him out of her bosom

מֵֽחֵיקָ֗הּ

and carried him up

וַֽיַּעֲלֵ֙הוּ֙

 

אֶל

into a loft

הָֽעֲלִיָּ֗ה

 

אֲשֶׁר

 

הוּא֙

where he abode

יֹשֵׁ֣ב

 

שָׁ֔ם

and laid

וַיַּשְׁכִּבֵ֖הוּ

 

עַל

him upon his own bed

מִטָּתֽוֹ׃

And he cried

וַיִּקְרָ֥א

 

אֶל

O LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

O LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

my God

אֱלֹהָ֔י

 

הֲ֠גַם

 

עַל

upon the widow

הָֽאַלְמָנָ֞ה

 

אֲשֶׁר

 

אֲנִ֨י

with whom I sojourn

מִתְגּוֹרֵ֥ר

 

עִמָּ֛הּ

hast thou also brought evil

הֲרֵע֖וֹתָ

by slaying

לְהָמִ֥ית

 

אֶת

her son

בְּנָֽהּ׃

And he stretched

וַיִּתְמֹדֵ֤ד

 

עַל

I pray thee let this child's

הַיֶּ֥לֶד

שָׁלֹ֣שׁ

times

פְּעָמִ֔ים

and cried

וַיִּקְרָ֥א

 

אֶל

O LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

O LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

my God

אֱלֹהָ֔י

תָּ֥שָׁב

 

נָ֛א

soul

נֶֽפֶשׁ

I pray thee let this child's

הַיֶּ֥לֶד

 

הַזֶּ֖ה

 

עַל

into him

קִרְבּֽוֹ׃

heard

וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע

And the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

the voice

בְּק֣וֹל

of Elijah

אֵֽלִיָּ֑הוּ

again

וַתָּ֧שָׁב

and the soul

נֶֽפֶשׁ

of the child

הַיֶּ֛לֶד

 

עַל

into him

קִרְבּ֖וֹ

and he revived

וַיֶּֽחִי׃

took

וַיִּקַּ֨ח

And Elijah

אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ

 

אֶת

the child

הַיֶּ֗לֶד

and brought him down

וַיֹּֽרִדֵ֤הוּ

 

מִן

out of the chamber

הָֽעֲלִיָּה֙

into the house

הַבַּ֔יְתָה

and delivered

וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖הוּ

him unto his mother

לְאִמּ֑וֹ

said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

And Elijah

אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ

liveth

חַ֥י

thy son

בְּנֵֽךְ׃

וַתֹּ֤אמֶר

And the woman

הָֽאִשָּׁה֙

 

אֶל

to Elijah

אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ

 

עַתָּה֙

Now by this

זֶ֣ה

I know

יָדַ֔עְתִּי

 

כִּ֛י

that thou art a man

אִ֥ישׁ

of God

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

 

אָ֑תָּה

and that the word

וּדְבַר

of the LORD

יְהוָ֥ה

in thy mouth

בְּפִ֖יךָ

is truth

אֱמֶֽת׃
