of the LORD

לַֽיהוָֽה׃

 

וַיְהִ֣י

And when the time

הַיּ֔וֹם

offered

וַיִּזְבַּ֖ח

was that Elkanah

אֶלְקָנָ֑ה

he gave

וְנָתַ֞ן

to Peninnah

לִפְנִנָּ֣ה

his wife

אִשְׁתּ֗וֹ

 

וּֽלְכָל

and to all her sons

בָּנֶ֛יהָ

and her daughters

וּבְנוֹתֶ֖יהָ

portions

מָנֽוֹת׃

But unto Hannah

חַנָּה֙

he gave

יִתֵּ֛ן

portion

מָנָ֥ה

a

אַחַ֖ת

worthy

אַפָּ֑יִם

 

כִּ֤י

 

אֶת

But unto Hannah

חַנָּה֙

for he loved

אָהֵ֔ב

but the LORD

וַֽיהוָ֖ה

had shut up

סָגַ֥ר

her womb

רַחְמָֽהּ׃

also provoked

וְכִֽעֲסַ֤תָּה

And her adversary

צָֽרָתָהּ֙

 

גַּם

her sore

כַּ֔עַס

 

בַּֽעֲב֖וּר

for to make her fret

הַרְּעִמָ֑הּ

 

כִּֽי

had shut

סָגַ֥ר

because the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

up

בְּעַ֥ד

her womb

רַחְמָֽהּ׃

 

וְכֵ֨ן

And as he did

יַֽעֲשֶׂ֜ה

by year

בְשָׁנָ֗ה

בְשָׁנָ֗ה

when

מִדֵּ֤י

she went up

עֲלֹתָהּ֙

to the house

בְּבֵ֣ית

of the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

 

כֵּ֖ן

so she provoked

תַּכְעִסֶ֑נָּה

her therefore she wept

וַתִּבְכֶּ֖ה

 

וְלֹ֥א

and did not eat

תֹאכַֽל׃

Then said

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

 

לָ֜הּ

Elkanah

אֶלְקָנָ֣ה

her husband

אִישָׁ֗הּ

to her Hannah

חַנָּה֙

 

לָ֣מֶה

why weepest

תִבְכִּ֗י

 

וְלָ֙מֶה֙

 

לֹ֣א

thou and why eatest

תֹֽאכְלִ֔י

 

וְלָ֖מֶה

grieved

יֵרַ֣ע

thou not and why is thy heart

לְבָבֵ֑ךְ

 

הֲל֤וֹא

 

אָֽנֹכִי֙

הַכֹּהֵ֗ן

upon a seat

הַכִּסֵּ֔א

מְזוּזַ֖ת

of the temple

הֵיכַ֥ל

of the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

 

וְהִ֖יא

And she was in bitterness

מָ֣רַת

of soul

נָ֑פֶשׁ

and prayed

וַתִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל

 

עַל

unto the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

and wept

תִבְכֶּֽה׃

and wept

תִבְכֶּֽה׃

And she vowed

וַתִּדֹּ֨ר

a vow

נֶ֜דֶר

and said

וַתֹּאמַ֗ר

O LORD

לַֽיהוָה֙

of hosts

צְבָא֜וֹת

 

אִם

if thou wilt indeed

תִרְאֶ֣ה׀

if thou wilt indeed

תִרְאֶ֣ה׀

on the affliction

בָּֽעֳנִ֣י

of thine handmaid

לַאֲמָֽתְךָ֖

and remember

וּזְכַרְתַּ֙נִי֙

 

וְלֹֽא

me and not forget

תִשְׁכַּ֣ח

 

אֶת

of thine handmaid

לַאֲמָֽתְךָ֖

but wilt give

וּנְתַתִּ֤יו

of thine handmaid

לַאֲמָֽתְךָ֖

child

זֶ֣רַע

 

אֲנָשִׁ֑ים

O LORD

Now Hannah

וְחַנָּ֗ה

 

הִ֚יא

she spake

מְדַבֶּ֣רֶת

 

עַל

in her heart

לִבָּ֔הּ

only her lips

שְׂפָתֶ֣יהָ

moved

נָּע֔וֹת

but her voice

וְקוֹלָ֖הּ

 

לֹ֣א

was not heard

יִשָּׁמֵ֑עַ

וַיַּחְשְׁבֶ֥הָ

therefore Eli

עֵלִ֖י

she had been drunken

לְשִׁכֹּרָֽה׃

said

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

 

אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙

And Eli

עֵלִ֔י

 

עַד

 

מָתַ֖י

unto her How long wilt thou be drunken

תִּשְׁתַּכָּרִ֑ין

put away

הָסִ֥ירִי

 

אֶת

thy wine

יֵינֵ֖ךְ

 

מֵֽעָלָֽיִךְ׃

answered

וַתַּ֨עַן

And Hannah

חַנָּ֤ה

and said

וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

לֹ֣א

No my lord

אֲדֹנִ֔י

I am a woman

אִשָּׁ֤ה

of a sorrowful

קְשַׁת

spirit

ר֙וּחַ֙

 

אָנֹ֔כִי

neither wine

וְיַ֥יִן

nor strong drink

וְשֵׁכָ֖ר

 

לֹ֣א

I have drunk

שָׁתִ֑יתִי

but have poured out

וָֽאֶשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ

 

אֶת

my soul

נַפְשִׁ֖י

before

לִפְנֵ֥י

the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

 

אַל

תִּתֵּן֙

not thine handmaid

אֲמָ֣תְךָ֔

הֵֽנָּה׃

answered

וַיַּ֧עַן

Then Eli

עֵלִ֛י

and said

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר

 

לְכִ֣י

in peace

לְשָׁל֑וֹם

and the God

וֵֽאלֹהֵ֣י

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

grant

יִתֵּן֙

 

אֶת

thee thy petition

שֵׁ֣לָתֵ֔ךְ

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

that thou hast asked

שָׁאַ֖לְתְּ

 

מֵֽעִמּֽוֹ׃

And she said

וַתֹּ֕אמֶר

find

תִּמְצָ֧א

Let thine handmaid

שִׁפְחָֽתְךָ֛

grace

חֵ֖ן

in thy sight

בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ

 

וַתֵּ֨לֶךְ

So the woman

הָֽאִשָּׁ֤ה

her way

לְדַרְכָּהּ֙

and did eat

וַתֹּאכַ֔ל

and her countenance

וּפָנֶ֥יהָ

 

לֹא

 

הָֽיוּ

 

לָ֖הּ

 

עֽוֹד׃

And they rose up

וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣מוּ

in the morning

בַבֹּ֗קֶר

and worshipped

וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲווּ֙

before

לִפְנֵ֣י

and the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

and returned

וַיָּשֻׁ֛בוּ

and came

וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ

 

אֶל

to their house

בֵּיתָ֖ם

to Ramah

הָֽרָמָ֑תָה

knew

וַיֵּ֤דַע

and Elkanah

אֶלְקָנָה֙

 

אֶת

Hannah

חַנָּ֣ה

his wife

אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ

remembered

וַֽיִּזְכְּרֶ֖הָ

and the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

 

וַֽיְהִי֙

was come

לִתְקֻפ֣וֹת

Wherefore it came to pass when the time

הַיָּמִ֔ים

had conceived

וַתַּ֥הַר

about after Hannah

חַנָּ֖ה

that she bare

וַתֵּ֣לֶד

a son

בֵּ֑ן

and called

וַתִּקְרָ֤א

 

אֶת

his name

שְׁמוֹ֙

Samuel

שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל

 

כִּ֥י

him of the LORD

מֵֽיְהוָ֖ה

saying Because I have asked

שְׁאִלְתִּֽיו׃

went up

וַיַּ֛עַל

And the man

הָאִ֥ישׁ

Elkanah

אֶלְקָנָ֖ה

 

וְכָל

and all his house

בֵּית֑וֹ

to offer

לִזְבֹּ֧חַ

unto the LORD

לַֽיהוָ֛ה

 

אֶת

sacrifice

זֶ֥בַח

the yearly

הַיָּמִ֖ים

 

וְאֶת

and his vow

נִדְרֽוֹ׃

But Hannah

וְחַנָּ֖ה

 

לֹ֣א

went not up

עָלָ֑תָה

 

כִּֽי

for she said

אָמְרָ֣ה

unto her husband

לְאִישָׁ֗הּ

for

עַד

be weaned

יִגָּמֵ֤ל

I will not go up until the child

הַנַּ֙עַר֙

and then I will bring

וַהֲבִֽאֹתִ֗יו

him that he may appear

וְנִרְאָה֙

 

אֶת

before

פְּנֵ֣י

the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

and there abide

וְיָ֥שַׁב

 

שָׁ֖ם

for

עַד

ever

עוֹלָֽם׃

said

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

 

לָהּ֩

And Elkanah

אֶלְקָנָ֨ה

her husband

אִישָׁ֜הּ

unto her Do

עֲשִׂ֧י

thee good

הַטּ֣וֹב

what seemeth

בְּעֵינַ֗יִךְ

abode

וַתֵּ֤שֶׁב

 

עַד

until she weaned

גָמְלָ֖הּ

 

אֹת֔וֹ

him only the LORD

דְּבָר֑וֹ

וַתֵּ֤שֶׁב

So the woman

הָֽאִשָּׁה֙

and gave her son

בְּנָ֔הּ

 

עַד

until she weaned

גָמְלָ֖הּ

 

אֹתֽוֹ׃

him she took him up

וַתַּֽעֲלֵ֨הוּ

 

עִמָּ֜הּ

 

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר

And when she had weaned

גְּמָלַ֗תּוּ

bullocks

בְּפָרִ֤ים

שְׁלֹשָׁה֙

and a bottle

him unto the house

And they slew

וַֽיִּשְׁחֲט֖וּ

a bullock

הַפָּ֑ר

עֵלִֽי׃

And she said

וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙

Oh

בִּ֣י

my lord

אֲדֹנִ֑י

liveth

חֵ֥י

as thy soul

נַפְשְׁךָ֖

my lord

אֲדֹנִ֑י

 

אֲנִ֣י

I am the woman

הָֽאִשָּׁ֗ה

that stood

הַנִּצֶּ֤בֶת

 

עִמְּכָה֙

 

בָּזֶ֔ה

by thee here praying

לְהִתְפַּלֵּ֖ל

unto the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

For this child

הַנַּ֥עַר

 

הַזֶּ֖ה

I prayed

הִתְפַּלָּ֑לְתִּי

hath given

וַיִּתֵּ֨ן

and the LORD

לִי֙

me my petition

שְׁאֵ֣לָתִ֔י

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

which I asked

שָׁאַ֖לְתִּי

 

מֵֽעִמּֽוֹ׃

 

וְגַ֣ם

 

אָֽנֹכִ֗י

Therefore also I have lent

שָׁא֖וּל

him to the LORD

לַֽיהוָֽה׃

 

כָּל

as long as he liveth

הַיָּמִים֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

 

הָיָ֔ה

Therefore also I have lent

And he worshipped
