1
So I returned
וְשַׁ֣בְתִּֽי

אֲנִ֗י
and considered
וָאֶרְאֶה֙

אֶת

כָּל
all the oppressions
הָעֲשֻׁקִ֗ים

אֲשֶׁ֥ר
that are done
נַעֲשִׂ֖ים

תַּ֣חַת
under the sun
הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ

וְהִנֵּ֣ה׀
and behold the tears
דִּמְעַ֣ת
all the oppressions
הָעֲשֻׁקִ֗ים

וְאֵ֤ין

לָהֶם֙
and they had no comforter
מְנַחֵֽם׃
and on the side
וּמִיַּ֤ד
of such as were oppressed
עֹֽשְׁקֵיהֶם֙
there was power
כֹּ֔חַ

וְאֵ֥ין

לָהֶ֖ם
and they had no comforter
מְנַחֵֽם׃
2
Wherefore I praised
וְשַׁבֵּ֧חַ

אֲנִ֛י

אֶת
dead
מֵ֑תוּ
which are already
שֶׁכְּבָ֣ר
dead
מֵ֑תוּ

מִן
alive
חַיִּ֖ים

אֲשֶׁ֛ר

הֵ֥מָּה
alive
חַיִּ֖ים
which are yet
עֲדֶֽנָה׃
3
Yea better
וְטוֹב֙
is he than both
מִשְּׁנֵיהֶ֔ם

אֵ֥ת

אֲשֶׁר
they which hath not yet
עֲדֶ֖ן

לֹ֣א

הָיָ֑ה

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

לֹֽא
been who hath not seen
רָאָה֙

אֶת
work
הַמַּעֲשֶׂ֣ה
the evil
הָרָ֔ע

אֲשֶׁ֥ר
that is done
נַעֲשָׂ֖ה

תַּ֥חַת
under the sun
הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃
4
Again I considered
וְרָאִ֨יתִֽי

אֲנִ֜י

אֶת

כָּל
all travail
עָמָ֗ל

וְאֵת֙

כָּל
and every right
כִּשְׁר֣וֹן
work
הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה

כִּ֛י

הִ֥יא
is envied
קִנְאַת
that for this a man
אִ֖ישׁ
of his neighbour
מֵרֵעֵ֑הוּ

גַּם

זֶ֥ה
This is also vanity
הֶ֖בֶל
and vexation
וּרְע֥וּת
of spirit
רֽוּחַ׃
5
The fool
הַכְּסִיל֙
foldeth
חֹבֵ֣ק

אֶת
his hands
יָדָ֔יו
and eateth
וְאֹכֵ֖ל

אֶת
his own flesh
בְּשָׂרֽוֹ׃
6
Better
ט֕וֹב
full
מִמְּלֹ֥א
is an handful
כַ֖ף
with quietness
נָ֑חַת
full
מִמְּלֹ֥א
than both the hands
חָפְנַ֛יִם
with travail
עָמָ֖ל
and vexation
וּרְע֥וּת
of spirit
רֽוּחַ׃
7
Then I returned
וְשַׁ֧בְתִּי

אֲנִ֛י
and I saw
וָאֶרְאֶ֥ה
vanity
הֶ֖בֶל

תַּ֥חַת
under the sun
הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃
8
There is
יֵ֣שׁ
one
אֶחָד֩

וְאֵ֨ין
alone and there is not a second
שֵׁנִ֜י

גַּ֣ם
yea he hath neither child
בֵּ֧ן
nor brother
וָאָ֣ח

אֵֽין

ל֗וֹ

וְאֵ֥ין
yet is there no end
קֵץ֙

לְכָל
of all his labour
עֲמָל֔וֹ

גַּם
neither is his eye
עֵינ֖יוֹ

לֹא
satisfied
תִשְׂבַּ֣ע
with riches
עֹ֑שֶׁר

וּלְמִ֣י׀

אֲנִ֣י
neither saith he For whom do I labour
עָמֵ֗ל
and bereave
וּמְחַסֵּ֤ר

אֶת
my soul
נַפְשִׁי֙
of good
מִטּוֹבָ֔ה

גַּם

זֶ֥ה
This is also vanity
הֶ֛בֶל
travail
וְעִנְיַ֥ן
yea it is a sore
רָ֖ע

הֽוּא׃
9
a good
ט֖וֹב
Two
הַשְּׁנַ֖יִם

מִן
than one
הָאֶחָ֑ד

אֲשֶׁ֧ר
because they have
יֵשׁ

לָהֶ֛ם
reward
שָׂכָ֥ר
a good
ט֖וֹב
for their labour
בַּעֲמָלָֽם׃
10

כִּ֣י

אִם
For if they fall
שֶׁיִּפּ֔וֹל
the one
הָֽאֶחָד֙
to help him up
לַהֲקִימֽוֹ׃

אֶת
his fellow
חֲבֵר֑וֹ
but woe
וְאִ֣יל֗וֹ
the one
הָֽאֶחָד֙
For if they fall
שֶׁיִּפּ֔וֹל

וְאֵ֥ין
for he hath not another
שֵׁנִ֖י
to help him up
לַהֲקִימֽוֹ׃
11
Again
גַּ֛ם

אִם
lie together
יִשְׁכְּב֥וּ
if two
שְׁנַ֖יִם
then they have heat
וְחַ֣ם

לָהֶ֑ם
but how can one
וּלְאֶחָ֖ד

אֵ֥יךְ
be warm
יֵחָֽם׃
12

וְאִֽם
prevail
יִתְקְפוֹ֙
And if one
הָאֶחָ֔ד
against him two
הַשְּׁנַ֖יִם
shall withstand
יַעַמְד֣וּ

נֶגְדּ֑וֹ
cord
וְהַחוּט֙
him and a threefold
הַֽמְשֻׁלָּ֔שׁ

לֹ֥א
is not quickly
בִמְהֵרָ֖ה
broken
יִנָּתֵֽק׃
13
Better
ט֛וֹב
child
יֶ֥לֶד
is a poor
מִסְכֵּ֖ן
and a wise
וְחָכָ֑ם
king
מִמֶּ֤לֶךְ
than an old
זָקֵן֙
and foolish
וּכְסִ֔יל

אֲשֶׁ֛ר

לֹא
who will
יָדַ֥ע
no more be admonished
לְהִזָּהֵ֖ר

עֽוֹד׃
14

כִּֽי

מִבֵּ֥ית

הָסוּרִ֖ים
he cometh
יָצָ֣א
to reign
לִמְלֹ֑ךְ

כִּ֛י

גַּ֥ם
in his kingdom
בְּמַלְכוּת֖וֹ
whereas also he that is born
נוֹלַ֥ד
becometh poor
רָֽשׁ׃
15
I considered
רָאִ֙יתִי֙

אֶת

כָּל
all the living
הַ֣חַיִּ֔ים
which walk
הַֽמְהַלְּכִ֖ים

תַּ֣חַת
under the sun
הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ

עִ֚ם
child
הַיֶּ֣לֶד
with the second
הַשֵּׁנִ֔י

אֲשֶׁ֥ר
that shall stand up
יַעֲמֹ֖ד

תַּחְתָּֽיו׃
16

אֵֽין
There is no end
קֵ֣ץ

לְכָל
of all the people
הָעָ֗ם

לְכֹ֤ל

אֲשֶׁר

הָיָה֙
even of all that have been before
לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם

גַּ֥ם
them they also that come after
הָאַחֲרוֹנִ֖ים

לֹ֣א
shall not rejoice
יִשְׂמְחוּ

ב֑וֹ

כִּֽי

גַם

זֶ֥ה
in him Surely this also is vanity
הֶ֖בֶל
and vexation
וְרַעְי֥וֹן
of spirit
רֽוּחַ׃
