יְבָרֵ֣ךְ

thee and make thee fruitful

thee that thou mayest be a multitude

And he lighted

וַיִּפְגַּ֨ע

בַּמָּק֥וֹם

and tarried there all night

וַיָּ֤לֶן

 

שָׁם֙

 

כִּי

was set

בָ֣א

because the sun

הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ

and he took

וַיִּקַּח֙

of the stones

מֵֽאַבְנֵ֣י

in that place

בַּמָּק֥וֹם

and put

וַיָּ֖שֶׂם

them for his pillows

מְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֑יו

and lay down

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֖ב

in that place

בַּמָּק֥וֹם

 

הַהֽוּא׃

And he dreamed

וַֽיַּחֲלֹ֗ם

 

וְהִנֵּ֤ה

and behold a ladder

סֻלָּם֙

set up

מֻצָּ֣ב

on the earth

אַ֔רְצָה

and the top of it

וְרֹאשׁ֖וֹ

reached

מַגִּ֣יעַ

to heaven

הַשָּׁמָ֑יְמָה

 

וְהִנֵּה֙

and behold the angels

מַלְאֲכֵ֣י

of God

אֱלֹהִ֔ים

ascending

עֹלִ֥ים

and descending

וְיֹֽרְדִ֖ים

 

בּֽוֹ׃

 

וְהִנֵּ֨ה

And behold the LORD

יְהוָ֗ה

stood

נִצָּ֣ב

 

עָלָיו֮

above it and said

וַיֹּאמַר֒

 

אֲנִ֣י

whereon thou liest

וּלְזַרְעֶֽךָ׃

 

וְהָיָ֤ה

And thy seed

וּבְזַרְעֶֽךָ׃

shall be as the dust

כַּֽעֲפַ֣ר

of the earth

הָאָ֔רֶץ

and thou shalt spread abroad

וּפָֽרַצְתָּ֛

to the west

יָ֥מָּה

and to the east

וָקֵ֖דְמָה

and to the north

וְצָפֹ֣נָה

and to the south

וָנֶ֑גְבָּה

be blessed

וְנִבְרֲכ֥וּ

 

בְךָ֛

 

כָּל

shall all the families

מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת

of the earth

הָֽאֲדָמָ֖ה

And thy seed

וּבְזַרְעֶֽךָ׃

 

וְהִנֵּ֨ה

 

אָֽנֹכִ֜י

 

עִמָּ֗ךְ

And behold I am with thee and will keep

וּשְׁמַרְתִּ֙יךָ֙

 

בְּכֹ֣ל

thee in all places whither

אֲשֶׁר

 

תֵּלֵ֔ךְ

and will bring thee again

וַהֲשִׁ֣בֹתִ֔יךָ

 

אֶל

into this land

הָֽאֲדָמָ֖ה

 

הַזֹּ֑את

for I will not leave

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר

Surely

אָכֵן֙

יֵ֣שׁ

the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

in this place

בַּמָּק֖וֹם

 

הַזֶּ֑ה

 

וְאָֽנֹכִ֖י

 

לֹ֥א

and I knew

יָדָֽעְתִּי׃

And he was afraid

נּוֹרָ֖א

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֔ר

 

מַה

And he was afraid

נּוֹרָ֖א

is this place

הַמָּק֣וֹם

 

הַזֶּ֑ה

 

אֵ֣ין

 

זֶ֗ה

 

כִּ֚י

 

אִם

this is none other but the house

בֵּ֣ית

of God

אֱלֹהִ֔ים

 

וְזֶ֖ה

and this is the gate

שַׁ֥עַר

of heaven

הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

rose up early

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם

And Jacob

יַֽעֲקֹ֜ב

in the morning

בַּבֹּ֗קֶר

and took

וַיִּקַּ֤ח

 

אֶת

the stone

הָאֶ֙בֶן֙

 

אֲשֶׁר

and set it up

וַיָּ֥שֶׂם

for his pillows

מְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֔יו

and set it up

וַיָּ֥שֶׂם

 

אֹתָ֖הּ

for a pillar

מַצֵּבָ֑ה

and poured

וַיִּצֹ֥ק

oil

שֶׁ֖מֶן

 

עַל

upon the top of it

רֹאשָֽׁהּ׃

And he called

וַיִּקְרָ֛א

the name

שֵׁם

of that place

הַמָּק֥וֹם

 

הַה֖וּא

 

בֵּֽית

Bethel

אֵ֑ל

but

וְאוּלָ֛ם

was called Luz

ל֥וּז

the name

שֵׁם

of that city

הָעִ֖יר

at the first

לָרִֽאשֹׁנָֽה׃

vowed

וַיִּדַּ֥ר

And Jacob

יַֽעֲקֹ֖ב

a vow

נֶ֣דֶר

saying

לֵאמֹ֑ר

 

אִם

 

יִֽהְיֶ֨ה

If God

אֱלֹהִ֜ים

 

עִמָּדִ֗י

will be with me and will keep me

וּשְׁמָרַ֙נִי֙

in this way

בַּדֶּ֤רֶךְ

 

הַזֶּה֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

 

אָֽנֹכִ֣י

that I go

הוֹלֵ֔ךְ

and will give

וְנָֽתַן

 

לִ֥י

me bread

לֶ֛חֶם

to eat

לֶֽאֱכֹ֖ל

and raiment

וּבֶ֥גֶד

to put on

לִלְבֹּֽשׁ׃

So that I come again

וְשַׁבְתִּ֥י

in peace

בְשָׁל֖וֹם

 

אֶל

house

בֵּ֣ית

to my father's

אָבִ֑י

 

וְהָיָ֧ה

then shall the LORD

יְהוָ֛ה

 

לִ֖י

be my God

לֵֽאלֹהִֽים׃

And this stone

וְהָאֶ֣בֶן

 

הַזֹּ֗את

 

אֲשֶׁר

which I have set

שַׂ֙מְתִּי֙

for a pillar

מַצֵּבָ֔ה

 

יִֽהְיֶ֖ה

house

בֵּ֣ית

shall be God's

אֱלֹהִ֑ים

 

וְכֹל֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

and of all that thou shalt give

תִּתֶּן

 

לִ֔י

give the tenth

אֲעַשְּׂרֶ֥נּוּ

give the tenth
