unto wise counsels

תַּחְבֻּל֥וֹת

לְהָבִ֣ין

a proverb

מָ֭שָׁל

and the interpretation

וּמְלִיצָ֑ה

דִּבְרֵ֥י

of the wise

חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים

and their dark sayings

וְחִידֹתָֽם׃

The fear

יִרְאַ֣ת

of the LORD

יְ֭הוָה

is the beginning

רֵאשִׁ֣ית

of knowledge

דָּ֑עַת

wisdom

חָכְמָ֥ה

and instruction

וּ֝מוּסָ֗ר

but fools

אֱוִילִ֥ים

despise

בָּֽזוּ׃

hear

שְׁמַ֣ע

My son

בְּ֭נִי

the instruction

מוּסַ֣ר

of thy father

אָבִ֑יךָ

 

וְאַל

and forsake

תִּ֝טֹּ֗שׁ

not the law

תּוֹרַ֥ת

of thy mother

אִמֶּֽךָ׃

 

כִּ֤י׀

For they shall be an ornament

לִוְיַ֤ת

of grace

חֵ֓ן

 

הֵ֬ם

unto thy head

לְרֹאשֶׁ֑ךָ

and chains

וַ֝עֲנָקִ֗ים

about thy neck

לְגַרְגְּרֹתֶֽךָ׃

My son

בְּנִ֡י

 

אִם

entice

יְפַתּ֥וּךָ

if sinners

חַ֝טָּאִ֗ים

 

אַל

thee consent

תֹּבֵֽא׃

 

אִם

If they say

יֹאמְרוּ֮

 

לְכָ֪ה

 

אִ֫תָּ֥נוּ

with us let us lay wait

נֶאֶרְבָ֥ה

for blood

לְדָ֑ם

let us lurk

נִצְפְּנָ֖ה

privily for the innocent

לְנָקִ֣י

without cause

חִנָּֽם׃

Let us swallow them up

נִ֭בְלָעֵם

as the grave

כִּשְׁא֣וֹל

alive

חַיִּ֑ים

and whole

וּ֝תְמִימִ֗ים

as those that go down

כְּי֣וֹרְדֵי

into the pit

בֽוֹר׃

 

כָּל

substance

ה֣וֹן

all precious

יָקָ֣ר

We shall find

נִמְצָ֑א

we shall fill

נְמַלֵּ֖א

our houses

בָתֵּ֣ינוּ

with spoil

שָׁלָֽל׃

in thy lot

גּ֭וֹרָ֣לְךָ

בְּתוֹכֵ֑נוּ

כִּ֥יס

us let us all have one

לְכֻלָּֽנוּ׃

כִּ֣י

For their feet

רַ֭גְלֵיהֶם

to evil

לָרַ֣ע

יָר֑וּצוּ

and make haste

וִֽ֝ימַהֲר֗וּ

to shed

לִשְׁפָּךְ

blood

דָּֽם׃

 

כִּֽי

Surely in vain

חִ֭נָּם

is spread

מְזֹרָ֣ה

the net

הָרָ֑שֶׁת

in the sight

בְּ֝עֵינֵ֗י

 

כָל

of any bird

בַּ֥עַל

 

כָּנָֽף׃

 

וְ֭הֵם

for their own blood

לְדָמָ֣ם

And they lay wait

יֶאֱרֹ֑בוּ

they lurk privily

יִ֝צְפְּנ֗וּ

for their own lives

לְנַפְשֹׁתָֽם׃

 

כֵּ֗ן

So are the ways

אָ֭רְחוֹת

 

כָּל

of every one that is greedy

בֹּ֣צֵֽעַ

of gain

בָּ֑צַע

 

אֶת

the life

נֶ֖פֶשׁ

of the owners

בְּעָלָ֣יו

which taketh away

יִקָּֽח׃

Wisdom

חָ֭כְמוֹת

בַּח֣וּץ

crieth

תָּרֹ֑נָּה

in the streets

בָּ֝רְחֹב֗וֹת

she uttereth

תִּתֵּ֥ן

her voice

קוֹלָֽהּ׃

in the chief place

בְּרֹ֥אשׁ

of concourse

הֹמִיּ֗וֹת

She crieth

תִּ֫קְרָ֥א

in the openings

בְּפִתְחֵ֖י

of the gates

שְׁעָרִ֥ים

in the city

בָּעִ֗יר

her words

אֲמָרֶ֥יהָ

she uttereth

תֹאמֵֽר׃

How long ye simple ones

Turn

תָּשׁ֗וּבוּ

you at my reproof

לְֽת֫וֹכַחְתִּ֥י

 

הִנֵּ֤ה

behold I will pour out

אַבִּ֣יעָה

 

לָכֶ֣ם

my spirit

רוּחִ֑י

unto you I will make known

אוֹדִ֖יעָה

my words

דְבָרַ֣י

 

אֶתְכֶֽם׃

 

יַ֣עַן

Because I have called

קָ֭רָאתִי

and ye refused

וַתְּמָאֵ֑נוּ

I have stretched out

נָטִ֥יתִי

my hand

יָ֝דִ֗י

 

וְאֵ֣ין

and no man regarded

מַקְשִֽׁיב׃

But ye have set at nought

וַתִּפְרְע֥וּ

 

כָל

all my counsel

עֲצָתִ֑י

none of my reproof

וְ֝תוֹכַחְתִּ֗י

 

לֹ֣א

and would

אֲבִיתֶֽם׃

אֲ֭נִי

at your calamity

בְּאֵידְכֶ֣ם

I also will laugh

אֶשְׂחָ֑ק

I will mock

אֶ֝לְעַ֗ג

cometh

בְּבֹ֣א

when your fear

פַחְדְּכֶֽם׃

cometh

בְּבֹ֥א

 

כְשׁאָ֨וה׀

When your fear

פַּחְדְּכֶ֗ם

and your destruction

וְֽ֭אֵידְכֶם

as a whirlwind

כְּסוּפָ֣ה

cometh

יֶאֱתֶ֑ה

בְּבֹ֥א

 

עֲ֝לֵיכֶ֗ם

when distress

צָרָ֥ה

and anguish

וְצוּקָֽה׃

 

אָ֣ז

Then shall they call

יִ֭קְרָאֻנְנִי

 

וְלֹ֣א

upon me but I will not answer

אֶֽעֱנֶ֑ה

they shall seek me early

יְ֝שַׁחֲרֻ֗נְנִי

 

וְלֹ֣א

but they shall not find

יִמְצָאֻֽנְנִי׃

 

תַּ֭חַת

 

כִּי

For that they hated

שָׂ֣נְאוּ

knowledge

דָ֑עַת

the fear

וְיִרְאַ֥ת

of the LORD

יְ֝הוָֹ֗ה

 

לֹ֣א

and did not choose

בָחָֽרוּ׃

 

לֹא

They would

אָב֥וּ

none of my counsel

לַעֲצָתִ֑י

they despised

נָ֝אֲצ֗וּ

 

כָּל

all my reproof

תּוֹכַחְתִּֽי׃

Therefore shall they eat

וְֽ֭יֹאכְלוּ

of the fruit

מִפְּרִ֣י

of their own way

דַרְכָּ֑ם

with their own devices

וּֽמִמֹּעֲצֹ֖תֵיהֶ֣ם

and be filled

יִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃

 

כִּ֤י

For the turning away

מְשׁוּבַ֣ת

of the simple

פְּתָיִ֣ם

shall slay

תַּֽהַרְגֵ֑ם

them and the prosperity

וְשַׁלְוַ֖ת

of fools

כְּסִילִ֣ים

shall destroy

תְּאַבְּדֵֽם׃

But whoso hearkeneth

וְשֹׁמֵ֣עַֽ

 

לִ֭י

unto me shall dwell

יִשְׁכָּן

safely

בֶּ֑טַח

and shall be quiet

וְ֝שַׁאֲנַ֗ן

from fear

מִפַּ֥חַד

of evil

רָעָֽה׃
