there where we may dwell

And he answered

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר

 

לֵֽכוּ׃

And he answered

with thy servants

עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ

And he answered

אִתָּ֑ם

with them And when they came

וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙

to Jordan

הַיַּרְדֵּ֔נָה

they cut down

וַֽיִּגְזְר֖וּ

הָֽעֵצִֽים׃

 

וַיְהִ֤י

But as one

הָֽאֶחָד֙

fell

נָפַ֣ל

a beam

הַקּוֹרָ֔ה

 

וְאֶת

the axe head

הַבַּרְזֶ֖ל

fell

נָפַ֣ל

 

אֶל

into the water

הַמָּ֑יִם

and he cried

וַיִּצְעַ֥ק

and said

וַיֹּ֛אמֶר

Alas

אֲהָ֥הּ

master

אֲדֹנִ֖י

 

וְה֥וּא

for it was borrowed

שָׁאֽוּל׃

said

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

And the man

אִישׁ

of God

הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים

אָ֣נָה

fell

נָפָ֑ל

it And he shewed

וַיַּרְאֵ֙הוּ֙

 

אֶת

him the place

הַמָּק֔וֹם

And he cut down

וַיִּקְצָב

a stick

עֵץ֙

and cast

וַיַּשְׁלֶךְ

 

שָׁ֔מָּה

did swim

וַיָּ֖צֶף

it in thither and the iron

הַבַּרְזֶֽל׃

Therefore said

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר

he Take it up

הָ֣רֶם

 

לָ֑ךְ

to thee And he put out

וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח

his hand

יָד֖וֹ

and took

וַיִּקָּחֵֽהוּ׃

Then the king

וּמֶ֣לֶךְ

of Syria

אֲרָ֔ם

 

הָיָ֥ה

warred

נִלְחָ֖ם

against Israel

בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

and took counsel

וַיִּוָּעַץ֙

 

אֶל

with his servants

עֲבָדָ֣יו

saying

לֵאמֹ֗ר

 

אֶל

a place

מְק֛וֹם

In such

פְּלֹנִ֥י

and such

אַלְמֹנִ֖י

shall be my camp

תַּֽחֲנֹתִֽי׃

sent

וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח

And the man

אִ֣ישׁ

of God

הָֽאֱלֹהִ֗ים

 

אֶל

unto the king

מֶ֤לֶךְ

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

saying

לֵאמֹ֔ר

Beware

הִשָּׁ֕מֶר

that thou pass

מֵֽעֲבֹ֖ר

a place

הַמָּק֣וֹם

not such

הַזֶּ֑ה

 

כִּי

 

שָׁ֖ם

for thither the Syrians

אֲרָ֥ם

are come down

נְחִתִּֽים׃

sent

וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח

And the king

מֶ֣לֶךְ

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

 

אֶֽל

to the place

הַמָּק֞וֹם

 

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

told

אָֽמַר

 

ל֧וֹ

which the man

אִישׁ

of God

הָֽאֱלֹהִ֛ים

him and warned

וְהִזְהִירֹ֖ה

him of and saved

וְנִשְׁמַ֣ר

was sore troubled

וַיִּסָּעֵר֙

Therefore the heart

הַדָּבָ֖ר

 

הַזֶּ֑ה

and he called

וַיִּקְרָ֤א

 

אֶל

his servants

עֲבָדָיו֙

and said

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

 

אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם

 

הֲלוֹא֙

unto them Will ye not shew

תַּגִּ֣ידוּ

 

לִ֔י

 

מִ֥י

 

מִשֶּׁלָּ֖נוּ

 

אֶל

me which of us is for the king

יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

that thou speakest

תְּדַבֵּ֖ר

in thy bedchamber

בַּֽחֲדַ֥ר

 

מִשְׁכָּבֶֽךָ׃

And he said

לֵאמֹ֖ר

 

לְכ֤וּ

and spy

וּרְאוּ֙

where

אֵיכֹ֣ה

 

ה֔וּא

he is that I may send

וְאֶשְׁלַ֖ח

and fetch

וְאֶקָּחֵ֑הוּ

him And it was told

וַיֻּגַּד

 

ל֥וֹ

And he said

לֵאמֹ֖ר

 

הִנֵּ֥ה

Behold he is in Dothan

בְדֹתָֽן׃

Therefore sent

וַיִּשְׁלַח

 

שָׁ֛מָּה

he thither horses

סוּסִ֥ים

and chariots

וְרֶ֖כֶב

וְחַ֣יִל

and a great

כָּבֵ֑ד

and they came

וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ

by night

לַ֔יְלָה

עַל

the city

הָעִֽיר׃

וַ֠יַּשְׁכֵּם

And when the servant

מְשָׁרֵ֨ת

of the man

אִ֥ישׁ

הָֽאֱלֹהִים֮

was risen

לָקוּם֒

and gone forth

וַיֵּצֵ֕א

 

וְהִנֵּה

behold an host

חַ֛יִל

compassed

סוֹבֵ֥ב

הָעִ֖יר

both with horses

וְס֣וּס

and chariots

וָרָ֑כֶב

said

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

And his servant

נַֽעֲר֥וֹ

 

אֵלָ֛יו

unto him Alas

אֲהָ֥הּ

my master

אֲדֹנִ֖י

 

אֵיכָ֥ה

how shall we do

נַֽעֲשֶֽׂה׃

And he answered

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר

 

אַל

Fear

תִּירָ֑א

 

כִּ֤י

not for they that be with us are more

רַבִּים֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

 

אִתָּ֔נוּ

 

מֵֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר

 

אוֹתָֽם׃

prayed

וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֤ל

And Elisha

אֱלִישָֽׁע׃

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֔ר

And the LORD

יְהוָה֙

I pray thee open

וַיִּפְקַ֤ח

 

נָ֥א

 

אֶת

his eyes

עֵינֵ֣י

and he saw

וַיַּ֗רְא

I pray thee open

וַיִּפְקַ֤ח

And the LORD

יְהוָה֙

 

אֶת

his eyes

עֵינֵ֣י

of the young man

הַנַּ֔עַר

and he saw

וַיַּ֗רְא

 

וְהִנֵּ֨ה

and behold the mountain

הָהָ֜ר

was full

מָלֵ֨א

of horses

סוּסִ֥ים

and chariots

וְרֶ֛כֶב

of fire

אֵ֖שׁ

round about

סְבִיבֹ֥ת

And Elisha

אֱלִישָֽׁע׃

And when they came down

וַיֵּֽרְדוּ֮

 

אֵלָיו֒

prayed

וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֨ל

of Elisha

אֱלִישָֽׁע׃

 

אֶל

unto the LORD

יְהוָה֙

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֔ר

And he smote

וַיַּכֵּ֥ם

 

נָ֥א

 

אֶת

this people

הַגּוֹי

 

הַזֶּ֖ה

I pray thee with blindness

בַּסַּנְוֵרִ֖ים

And he smote

וַיַּכֵּ֥ם

I pray thee with blindness

בַּסַּנְוֵרִ֖ים

according to the word

כִּדְבַ֥ר

of Elisha

אֱלִישָֽׁע׃

said

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

 

אֲלֵהֶ֜ם

And Elisha

אֱלִישָׁ֗ע

 

לֹ֣א

 

זֶ֣ה

unto them This is not the way

הַדֶּרֶךְ֮

 

וְלֹ֣א

neither is this

זֹ֣ה

the city

הָעִיר֒

 

לְכ֣וּ

 

אַֽחֲרַ֔י

 

וְאוֹלִ֣יכָה

 

אֶתְכֶ֔ם

 

אֶל

you to the man

הָאִ֖ישׁ

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

whom ye seek

תְּבַקֵּשׁ֑וּן

 

וַיֹּ֥לֶךְ

 

אוֹתָ֖ם

them to Samaria

שֹֽׁמְרֽוֹנָה׃

 

וַיְהִי֮

And it came to pass when they were come

כְּבֹאָ֣ם

into Samaria

שֹֽׁמְרֽוֹן׃

said

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

that Elisha

אֱלִישָׁ֔ע

And the LORD

יְהוָה֙

open

וַיִּפְקַ֤ח

 

אֶת

the eyes

עֵ֣ינֵיהֶ֔ם

 

אֵ֖לֶּה

and they saw

וַיִּרְא֕וּ

open

וַיִּפְקַ֤ח

And the LORD

יְהוָה֙

 

אֶת

the eyes

עֵ֣ינֵיהֶ֔ם

and they saw

וַיִּרְא֕וּ

 

וְהִנֵּ֖ה

and behold they were in the midst

בְּת֥וֹךְ

into Samaria

שֹֽׁמְרֽוֹן׃

said

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

And the king

מֶֽלֶךְ

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

 

אֶל

unto Elisha

אֱלִישָׁ֔ע

when he saw

כִּרְאֹת֖וֹ

 

אוֹתָ֑ם

shall I smite

אַכֶּ֖ה

shall I smite

אַכֶּ֖ה

them My father

אָבִֽי׃

And he answered

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

לֹ֣א

Thou shalt not smite

מַכֶּ֑ה

 

הַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר

those whom thou hast taken captive

שָׁבִ֛יתָ

with thy sword

בְּחַרְבְּךָ֥

and with thy bow

וּֽבְקַשְׁתְּךָ֖

 

אַתָּ֣ה

Thou shalt not smite

מַכֶּ֑ה

set

שִׂים֩

bread

לֶ֨חֶם

and water

וָמַ֜יִם

before

לִפְנֵיהֶ֗ם

them that they may eat

וְיֹֽאכְלוּ֙

and drink

וְיִשְׁתּ֔וּ

 

וְיֵֽלְכ֖וּ

 

אֶל

to their master

אֲדֹֽנֵיהֶֽם׃

And he prepared

וַיִּכְרֶ֨ה

 

לָהֶ֜ם

provision

כֵּרָ֣ה

great

גְדוֹלָ֗ה

for them and when they had eaten

וַיֹּֽאכְלוּ֙

and drunk

וַיִּשְׁתּ֔וּ

he sent them away

וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵ֔ם

 

וַיֵּֽלְכ֖וּ

 

אֶל

to their master

אֲדֹֽנֵיהֶ֑ם

 

וְלֹא

יָ֤סְפוּ

So the bands

גְּדוּדֵ֣י

לָב֖וֹא

into the land

בְּאֶ֥רֶץ

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

 

וַֽיְהִי֙

And it came to pass after this

אַֽחֲרֵי

 

כֵ֔ן

gathered

וַיִּקְבֹּ֛ץ

 

בֶּן

that Benhadad

הֲדַ֥ד

king

מֶֽלֶךְ

of Syria

אֲרָ֖ם

 

אֶת

 

כָּל

all his host

מַֽחֲנֵ֑הוּ

and went up

וַיַּ֕עַל

and besieged

וַיָּ֖צַר

 

עַל

Samaria

שֹֽׁמְרֽוֹן׃

 

וַיְהִ֨י

famine

רָעָ֤ב

And there was a great

גָּדוֹל֙

in Samaria

בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן

 

וְהִנֵּ֖ה

and behold they besieged

צָרִ֣ים

 

עָלֶ֑יהָ

 

עַ֣ד

 

הֱי֤וֹת

רֹאשׁ

it until an ass's

חֲמוֹר֙

was sold for fourscore

בִּשְׁמֹנִ֣ים

pieces of silver

And as the king

הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

was passing by

עֹבֵ֖ר

 

עַל

upon the wall

הַֽחֹמָ֑ה

a woman

וְאִשָּׁ֗ה

there cried

צָֽעֲקָ֤ה

 

אֵלָיו֙

unto him saying

לֵאמֹ֔ר

Help

הוֹשִׁ֖יעָה

my lord

אֲדֹנִ֥י

And as the king

הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

And he said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

אַל

do not help

אֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֑ךְ

If the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

thee whence

מֵאַ֖יִן

do not help

אֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֑ךְ

 

הֲמִן

thee out of the barnfloor

הַגֹּ֖רֶן

 

א֥וֹ

or out of the winepress

הַיָּֽקֶב׃

אָֽמְרָ֣ה

 

לָ֥הּ

And the king

הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ

הָֽאִשָּׁ֨ה

and behold he had sackcloth

Then he said

שָׁלַ֞ח

a man

אִ֜ישׁ

בְּטֶ֣רֶם

כְּבֹ֣א

him but ere the messenger

הַמַּלְאָ֗ךְ

 

אֵלָ֜יו

 

וְה֣וּא׀

to him he said

אָמַ֣ר

 

אֶל

and the elders

הַזְּקֵנִ֗ים

See

רְא֣וּ׀

 

כִּֽי

שָׁלַ֞ח

ye how this son

with them behold the messenger

הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ

אֵלָ֑יו

unto him and he said

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

 

הִנֵּה

Behold this evil

הָֽרָעָה֙

 

מֵאֵ֣ת

for the LORD

לַֽיהוָ֖ה

 

מָֽה

what should I wait

אוֹחִ֥יל

for the LORD

לַֽיהוָ֖ה
