שִׁמְע֖וּ

of the LORD

about this time
כָּעֵ֤ת׀
To morrow
מָחָר֙
and two measures
וְסָאתַ֧יִם
of fine flour
סֹ֣לֶת
be sold for a shekel
בְּשֶׁ֖קֶל
and two measures
וְסָאתַ֧יִם
of barley
שְׂעֹרִ֛ים
be sold for a shekel
בְּשֶׁ֖קֶל
in the gate
בְּשַׁ֥עַר
of Samaria
שֹֽׁמְרֽוֹן׃

answered
וַיַּ֣עַן
Then a lord
הַשָּׁלִ֡ישׁ
 
אֲשֶׁר
the king
לַמֶּלֶךְ֩
leaned
נִשְׁעָ֨ן
 
עַל
on whose hand
יָד֜וֹ
 
אֶת
the man
אִ֣ישׁ
of God
הָֽאֱלֹהִים֮
and said
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר
 
הִנֵּ֣ה
Behold if the LORD
יְהוָ֗ה
would make
עֹשֶׂ֤ה
windows
אֲרֻבּוֹת֙
in heaven
בַּשָּׁמַ֔יִם
 
הֲיִֽהְיֶ֖ה
might this thing
הַדָּבָ֣ר
 
הַזֶּ֑ה
and said
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר
 
הִנְּכָ֤ה
Behold thou shalt see
רֹאֶה֙
it with thine eyes
בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ
 
וּמִשָּׁ֖ם
 
לֹ֥א
but shalt not eat
תֹאכֵֽל׃

And there were four
וְאַרְבָּעָ֧ה
one
אִ֣ישׁ
 
הָי֥וּ
leprous
מְצֹֽרָעִ֖ים
at the entering in
פֶּ֣תַח
of the gate
הַשָּׁ֑עַר
and they said
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙
one
אִ֣ישׁ
 
אֶל
to another
רֵעֵ֔הוּ
 
מָ֗ה
 
אֲנַ֛חְנוּ
Why sit
יֹֽשְׁבִ֥ים
 
פֹּ֖ה
 
עַד
we here until we die
מָֽתְנוּ׃

אִם
If we say
אָמַרְנוּ֩
We will enter
נָב֨וֹא
into the city
בָּעִיר֙
then the famine
וְהָֽרָעָ֤ב
into the city
בָּעִיר֙
and if they kill
וָמָֽתְנוּ׃
 
שָׁ֔ם
 
וְאִם
there and if we sit still
יָשַׁ֥בְנוּ
 
פֹ֖ה
and if they kill
וָמָֽתְנוּ׃
 
וְעַתָּ֗ה
 
לְכוּ֙
and let us fall
וְנִפְּלָה֙
 
אֶל
unto the host
מַֽחֲנֵ֣ה
of the Syrians
אֲרָ֔ם
 
אִם
if they save us alive
נִֽחְיֶ֔ה
if they save us alive
נִֽחְיֶ֔ה
 
וְאִם
and if they kill
וָמָֽתְנוּ׃
and if they kill
וָמָֽתְנוּ׃

And they rose up
וַיָּקֻ֣מוּ
in the twilight
בַנֶּ֔שֶׁף
and when they were come
וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ
 
אֶל
of the camp
מַֽחֲנֵ֣ה
of Syria
אֲרָ֔ם
and when they were come
וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ
 
עַד
to the uttermost part
קְצֵה֙
of the camp
מַֽחֲנֵ֣ה
of Syria
אֲרָ֔ם
 
וְהִנֵּ֥ה
 
אֵֽין
 
שָׁ֖ם
behold there was no man
אִֽישׁ׃

For the Lord
וַֽאדֹנָ֞י
to hear
הִשְׁמִ֣יעַ׀
 
אֶת
had made the host
מַֽחֲנֵ֣ה
of the Syrians
אֲרָ֗ם
a noise
ק֖וֹל
of chariots
רֶ֙כֶב֙
a noise
ק֖וֹל
of horses
ס֔וּס
a noise
ק֖וֹל
host
חַ֣יִל
of a great
גָּד֑וֹל
and they said
וַיֹּֽאמְר֞וּ
one
אִ֣ישׁ
 
אֶל
to another
אָחִ֗יו
 
הִנֵּ֣ה
hath hired
שָֽׂכַר
 
עָלֵינוּ֩
Lo the king
מַלְכֵ֥י
of Israel
יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל
 
אֶת
Lo the king
מַלְכֵ֥י
of the Hittites
הַֽחִתִּ֛ים
 
וְאֶת
Lo the king
מַלְכֵ֥י
of the Egyptians
מִצְרַ֖יִם
to come
לָב֥וֹא
 
עָלֵֽינוּ׃

Wherefore they arose
וַיָּקוּמוּ֮
and fled
וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ
in the twilight
בַנֶּשֶׁף֒
and left
וַיַּֽעַזְב֣וּ
 
אֶת
their tents
אָֽהֳלֵיהֶ֗ם
 
וְאֶת
and their horses
סֽוּסֵיהֶם֙
 
וְאֶת
and their asses
חֲמֹ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם
even the camp
הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה
 
כַּֽאֲשֶׁר
 
הִ֑יא
and fled
וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ
 
אֶל
for their life
נַפְשָֽׁם׃

and entered
וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙
And when these lepers
הַֽמְצֹרָעִ֨ים
 
הָאֵ֜לֶּה
 
עַד
to the uttermost part
קְצֵ֣ה
of the camp
הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה
and entered
וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙
 
אֶל
tent
אֹ֣הֶל
into one
אֶחָד֙
and did eat
וַיֹּֽאכְל֣וּ
and drink
וַיִּשְׁתּ֔וּ
and carried
וַיִּשְׂא֣וּ
 
מִשָּׁ֗ם
thence silver
כֶּ֤סֶף
and gold
וְזָהָב֙
and raiment
וּבְגָדִ֔ים
 
וַיֵּֽלְכ֖וּ
and hid
וַיַּטְמִֽנוּ׃
it and came again
וַיָּשֻׁ֗בוּ
and entered
וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙
 
אֶל
tent
אֹ֣הֶל
into another
אַחֵ֔ר
and carried
וַיִּשְׂא֣וּ
 
מִשָּׁ֔ם
 
וַיֵּֽלְכ֖וּ
and hid
וַיַּטְמִֽנוּ׃

Then they said
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֩
one
אִ֨ישׁ
 
אֶל
to another
רֵעֵ֜הוּ
 
לֹא
 
כֵ֣ן׀
 
אֲנַ֣חְנוּ
We do
עֹשִׂ֗ים
is a day
יוֹם
 
הַזֶּה֙
is a day
יוֹם
of good tidings
בְּשֹׂרָ֣ה
 
ה֔וּא
 
וַֽאֲנַ֣חְנוּ
and we hold our peace
מַחְשִׁ֗ים
if we tarry
וְחִכִּ֛ינוּ
 
עַד
light
א֥וֹר
till the morning
הַבֹּ֖קֶר
will come
וּמְצָאָ֣נוּ
some mischief
עָו֑וֹן
 
וְעַתָּה֙
 
לְכ֣וּ
that we may go
וְנָבֹ֔אָה
and tell
וְנַגִּ֖ידָה
household
בֵּ֥ית
the king's
הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

So they came
בָּ֚אנוּ
and called
וַֽיִּקְרְאוּ֮
 
אֶל
unto the porter
שֹׁעֵ֣ר
of the city
הָעִיר֒
and they told
וַיַּגִּ֤ידוּ
 
לָהֶם֙
them saying
לֵאמֹ֔ר
So they came
בָּ֚אנוּ
 
אֶל
to the camp
מַֽחֲנֵ֣ה
of the Syrians
אֲרָ֔ם
 
וְהִנֵּ֥ה
 
אֵֽין
 
שָׁ֛ם
and behold there was no man
אִ֖ישׁ
there neither voice
וְק֣וֹל
of man
אָדָ֑ם
 
כִּ֣י
 
אִם
but horses
הַסּ֤וּס
tied
אָס֔וּר
and asses
וְהַֽחֲמ֣וֹר
tied
אָס֔וּר
and the tents
וְאֹֽהָלִ֖ים
 
כַּֽאֲשֶׁר
 
הֵֽמָּה׃

And he called
וַיִּקְרָ֖א
the porters
הַשֹּֽׁעֲרִ֑ים
and they told
וַיַּגִּ֕ידוּ
house
בֵּ֥ית
it to the king's
הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ
within
פְּנִֽימָה׃
12
arose
וַיָּ֨קָם
And the king
הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ
in the night
לַ֗יְלָה
and said
לֵאמֹ֔ר
 
אֶל
unto his servants
עֲבָדָ֔יו
I will now shew
אַגִּֽידָה
 
נָּ֣א
 
לָכֶ֔ם
 
אֵ֛ת
 
אֲשֶׁר
have done
עָ֥שׂוּ
 
לָ֖נוּ
you what the Syrians
אֲרָ֑ם
to us They know
יָֽדְע֞וּ
 
כִּֽי
that we be hungry
רְעֵבִ֣ים
 
אֲנַ֗חְנוּ
When they come out
יֵצְא֤וּ
 
מִן
of the camp
הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙
to hide
לְהֵֽחָבֵ֤ה
themselves in the field
בַהשָּׂדֶה֙
and said
לֵאמֹ֔ר
 
כִּֽי
When they come out
יֵצְא֤וּ
 
מִן
into the city
הָעִ֖יר
we shall catch
וְנִתְפְּשֵׂ֣ם
them alive
חַיִּ֔ים
 
וְאֶל
into the city
הָעִ֖יר
and get
נָבֹֽא׃

answered
וַיַּעַן֩
And one
אֶחָ֨ד
of his servants
מֵֽעֲבָדָ֜יו
and said
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר
Let some take
וְיִקְחוּ
 
נָ֞א
I pray thee five
חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה
 
מִן
of the horses
הַסּוּסִים֮
that are left
נִשְׁאֲרוּ
 
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
that are left
נִשְׁאֲרוּ
 
בָהּ֒
 
הִנָּ֗ם
 
כְּכָל
in it behold I say they are even as all the multitude
הֲמ֥וֹן
of Israel
יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל
 
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
that are left
נִשְׁאֲרוּ
 
בָ֔הּ
 
הִנָּ֕ם
 
כְּכָל
in it behold I say they are even as all the multitude
הֲמ֥וֹן
of Israel
יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל
 
אֲשֶׁר
that are consumed
תָּ֑מּוּ
and let us send
וְנִשְׁלְחָ֖ה
and see
וְנִרְאֶֽה׃

They took
וַיִּקְח֕וּ
therefore two
שְׁנֵ֖י
chariot
רֶ֣כֶב
horses
סוּסִ֑ים
sent
וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח
and the king
הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ
after
אַֽחֲרֵ֧י
the host
מַֽחֲנֵה
of the Syrians
אֲרָ֛ם
saying
לֵאמֹ֖ר
 
לְכ֥וּ
and see
וּרְאֽוּ׃
15
 
וַיֵּֽלְכ֣וּ
after
אַֽחֲרֵיהֶם֮
 
עַד
them unto Jordan
הַיַּרְדֵּן֒
 
וְהִנֵּ֣ה
 
כָל
and lo all the way
הַדֶּ֗רֶךְ
was full
מְלֵאָ֤ה
of garments
בְגָדִים֙
and vessels
וְכֵלִ֔ים
 
אֲשֶׁר
had cast away
הִשְׁלִ֥יכוּ
which the Syrians
אֲרָ֖ם
in their haste
בְּהחָפְזָ֑ם
returned
וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙
And the messengers
הַמַּלְאָכִ֔ים
and told
וַיַּגִּ֖דוּ
the king
לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
16
went out
וַיֵּצֵ֣א
And the people
הָעָ֔ם
and spoiled
וַיָּבֹ֕זּוּ
 
אֵ֖ת
the tents
מַֽחֲנֵ֣ה
of the Syrians
אֲרָ֑ם
 
וַיְהִ֨י
So a measure
וְסָאתַ֧יִם
of fine flour
סֹ֜לֶת
for a shekel
בְּשֶׁ֖קֶל
So a measure
וְסָאתַ֧יִם
of barley
שְׂעֹרִ֛ים
for a shekel
בְּשֶׁ֖קֶל
according to the word
כִּדְבַ֥ר
of the LORD
יְהוָֽה׃
17
And the king
הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ
appointed
הִפְקִ֨יד
 
אֶת
the lord
הַשָּׁלִ֜ישׁ
 
אֲשֶׁר
he leaned
נִשְׁעָ֤ן
 
עַל
on whose hand
יָדוֹ֙
 
עַל
to have the charge of the gate
בַּשַּׁ֖עַר
trode
וַיִּרְמְסֻ֧הוּ
and the people
הָעָ֛ם
to have the charge of the gate
בַּשַּׁ֖עַר
and he died
וַיָּמֹ֑ת
 
כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֤ר
had said
דִּבֶּ֔ר
as the man
אִ֣ישׁ
of God
הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים
 
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
had said
דִּבֶּ֔ר
came down
בְּרֶ֥דֶת
And the king
הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ
 
אֵלָֽיו׃
18
 
וַיְהִ֗י
had spoken
כְּדַבֵּר֙
And it came to pass as the man
אִ֣ישׁ
of God
הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים
 
אֶל
to the king
הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ
saying
לֵאמֹ֑ר

וּֽסְאָה
of barley
שְׂעֹרִ֜ים
for a shekel
בְּשֶׁ֔קֶל

answered
וַיַּ֨עַן
And that lord
הַשָּׁלִ֜ישׁ
 
אֶת
the man
אִ֣ישׁ
of God
הָֽאֱלֹהִים֮
and said
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר
 
וְהִנֵּ֣ה
Now behold if the LORD
יְהוָ֗ה
should make
עֹשֶׂ֤ה
windows
אֲרֻבּוֹת֙
in heaven
בַּשָּׁמַ֔יִם
 
הֲיִֽהְיֶ֖ה
might such a thing
כַּדָּבָ֣ר

and said

הִנְּךָ֤

And so it fell out unto him for the people
הָעָ֛ם
upon him in the gate
בַּשַּׁ֖עַר
and he died
וַיָּמֹֽת׃
