לַכְּנַֽעֲנִ֨י

the Hittites

הַֽחִתִּ֜י

the Perizzites

הַפְּרִזִּ֣י

the Jebusites

הַיְבוּסִ֗י

the Ammonites

הָֽעַמֹּנִי֙

the Moabites

הַמֹּ֣אָבִ֔י

the Egyptians

הַמִּצְרִ֖י

and the Amorites

וְהָֽאֱמֹרִֽי׃

 

כִּֽי

For they have taken

נָשְׂא֣וּ

of their daughters

מִבְּנֹֽתֵיהֶ֗ם

 

לָהֶם֙

for themselves and for their sons

וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֔ם

have mingled

וְהִתְעָֽרְבוּ֙

seed

זֶ֣רַע

so that the holy

הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ

themselves with the people

בְּעַמֵּ֖י

of those lands

הָֽאֲרָצ֑וֹת

yea the hand

וְיַ֧ד

of the princes

הַשָּׂרִ֣ים

and rulers

וְהַסְּגָנִ֗ים

 

הָ֥יְתָ֛ה

in this trespass

בַּמַּ֥עַל

 

הַזֶּ֖ה

hath been chief

רִֽאשׁוֹנָֽה׃

And when I heard

וּכְשָׁמְעִי֙

 

אֶת

this thing

הַדָּבָ֣ר

 

הַזֶּ֔ה

I rent

קָרַ֥עְתִּי

 

אֶת

my garment

בִּגְדִ֖י

and my mantle

וּמְעִילִ֑י

and plucked off

וָֽאֶמְרְטָ֞ה

the hair

מִשְּׂעַ֤ר

of my head

רֹאשִׁי֙

and of my beard

וּזְקָנִ֔י

and sat down

וָאֵֽשְׁבָ֖ה

astonied

מְשׁוֹמֵֽם׃

 

וְאֵלַ֣י

Then were assembled

יֵאָֽסְפ֗וּ

 

כֹּ֤ל

unto me every one that trembled

חָרֵד֙

at the words

בְּדִבְרֵ֣י

of the God

אֱלֹהֵֽי

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

 

עַ֖ל

because of the transgression

מַ֣עַל

of those that had been carried away

הַגּוֹלָ֑ה

 

וַֽאֲנִי֙

and I sat

יֹשֵׁ֣ב

astonied

מְשׁוֹמֵ֔ם

 

עַ֖ד

sacrifice

לְמִנְחַ֥ת

until the evening

הָעָֽרֶב׃

sacrifice

וּבְמִנְחַ֣ת

And at the evening

הָעֶ֗רֶב

I arose up

קַ֚מְתִּי

from my heaviness

מִתַּֽעֲנִיתִ֔י

and having rent

וּבְקָרְעִ֥י

my garment

בִגְדִ֖י

and my mantle

וּמְעִילִ֑י

I fell

וָֽאֶכְרְעָה֙

 

עַל

upon my knees

בִּרְכַּ֔י

and spread out

וָֽאֶפְרְשָׂ֥ה

my hands

כַפַּ֖י

 

אֶל

unto the LORD

יְהוָ֥ה

my God

אֱלֹהָֽי׃

And said

וָאֹֽמְרָ֗ה

O my God

אֱלֹהַ֛י

I am ashamed

בֹּ֣שְׁתִּי

and blush

וְנִכְלַ֔מְתִּי

to lift up

לְהָרִ֧ים

O my God

אֱלֹהַ֛י

my face

פָּנַ֖י

 

אֵלֶ֑יךָ

 

כִּ֣י

for our iniquities

עֲוֺנֹתֵ֤ינוּ

are increased

רָבוּ֙

over

לְמַ֣עְלָה

our head

רֹּ֔אשׁ

and our trespass

וְאַשְׁמָתֵ֥נוּ

is grown up

גָֽדְלָ֖ה

 

עַ֥ד

unto the heavens

לַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

Since the days

כְּהַיּ֥וֹם

of our fathers

אֲבֹתֵ֗ינוּ

 

אֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙

trespass

בְּאַשְׁמָ֣ה

have we been in a great

גְדֹלָ֔ה

 

עַ֖ד

Since the days

כְּהַיּ֥וֹם

 

הַזֶּ֑ה

and for our iniquities

וּבַעֲוֺנֹתֵ֡ינוּ

been delivered

נִתַּ֡נּוּ

 

אֲנַחְנוּ֩

have we our kings

מַלְכֵ֣י

and our priests

כֹֽהֲנֵ֜ינוּ

into the hand

בְּיַ֣ד׀

have we our kings

מַלְכֵ֣י

of the lands

הָֽאֲרָצ֗וֹת

to the sword

בַּחֶ֜רֶב

to captivity

בַּשְּׁבִ֧י

and to a spoil

וּבַבִּזָּ֛ה

and to confusion

וּבְבֹ֥שֶׁת

of face

פָּנִ֖ים

Since the days

כְּהַיּ֥וֹם

 

הַזֶּֽה׃

 

וְעַתָּ֡ה

And now for a little

מְעַ֖ט

space

רֶגַע֩

 

הָֽיְתָ֨ה

grace

תְחִנָּ֜ה

 

מֵאֵ֣ת׀

hath been shewed from the LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

our God

אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ

to leave

לְהַשְׁאִ֥יר

 

לָ֙נוּ֙

us a remnant to escape

פְּלֵיטָ֔ה

and give

וּלְתִתֵּ֛נוּ

 

לָ֥נוּ

us a nail

יָתֵ֖ד

place

בִּמְק֣וֹם

in his holy

קָדְשׁ֑וֹ

may lighten

לְהָאִ֤יר

our eyes

עֵינֵ֙ינוּ֙

our God

אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ

and give

וּלְתִתֵּ֛נוּ

reviving

מִֽחְיָ֥ה

And now for a little

מְעַ֖ט

in our bondage

בְּעַבְדֻתֵֽנוּ׃

 

כִּֽי

For we were bondmen

עֲבָדִ֣ים

 

אֲנַ֔חְנוּ

us in our bondage

וּבְעַבְדֻ֔תֵנוּ

 

לֹ֥א

hath not forsaken

עֲזָבָ֖נוּ

of our God

אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙

but hath extended

וַֽיַּט

 

עָלֵ֣ינוּ

mercy

חֶ֡סֶד

unto us in the sight

לִפְנֵי֩

of the kings

מַלְכֵ֨י

of Persia

פָרַ֜ס

thereof and to give

וְלָֽתֶת

 

לָ֣נוּ

us a reviving

מִֽחְיָ֗ה

to set up

לְרוֹמֵ֞ם

 

אֶת

the house

בֵּ֤ית

of our God

אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙

and to repair

וּלְהַֽעֲמִ֣יד

 

אֶת

the desolations

חָרְבֹתָ֔יו

thereof and to give

וְלָֽתֶת

 

לָ֣נוּ

us a wall

גָדֵ֔ר

in Judah

בִּֽיהוּדָ֖ה

and in Jerusalem

וּבִירֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

 

וְעַתָּ֛ה

נֹּאמַ֥ר

And now O our God

אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ

after

אַֽחֲרֵי

 

זֹ֑את

 

כִּ֥י

this for we have forsaken

עָזַ֖בְנוּ

thy commandments

מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

Which thou hast commanded

צִוִּ֗יתָ

by

בְּיַ֨ד

thy servants

עֲבָדֶ֣יךָ

the prophets

הַנְּבִיאִים֮

saying

לֵאמֹר֒

The land

הָֽאֲרָצ֑וֹת

 

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

 

אַתֶּ֤ם

unto which ye go

בָּאִים֙

to possess

לְרִשְׁתָּ֔הּ

The land

הָֽאֲרָצ֑וֹת

it is an unclean

בְּנִדַּ֖ת

 

הִ֔יא

it is an unclean

בְּנִדַּ֖ת

of the people

עַמֵּ֣י

The land

הָֽאֲרָצ֑וֹת

with their abominations

בְּתוֹעֲבֹֽתֵיהֶ֗ם

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

which have filled

מִלְא֛וּהָ

it from one end

פֶּ֖ה

 

אֶל

it from one end

פֶּ֖ה

with their uncleanness

בְּטֻמְאָתָֽם׃

 

וְ֠עַתָּה

not your daughters

וּבְנֹֽתֵיהֶם֙

 

אַל

Now therefore give

תִּתְּנ֣וּ

to your children

לִבְנֵיכֶ֖ם

not your daughters

וּבְנֹֽתֵיהֶם֙

 

אַל

neither take

תִּשְׂא֣וּ

to your children

לִבְנֵיכֶ֖ם

 

וְלֹֽא

nor seek

תִדְרְשׁ֧וּ

their peace

שְׁלֹמָ֛ם

or their wealth

וְטֽוֹבָתָ֖ם

for

עַד

ever

עוֹלָֽם׃

 

לְמַ֣עַן

that ye may be strong

תֶּֽחֶזְק֗וּ

and eat

וַֽאֲכַלְתֶּם֙

 

אֶת

the good

ט֣וּב

of the land

הָאָ֔רֶץ

and leave it for an inheritance

וְהֽוֹרַשְׁתֶּ֥ם

to your children

לִבְנֵיכֶ֖ם

for

עַד

ever

עוֹלָֽם׃

And after

וְאַֽחֲרֵי֙

 

כָּל

all that is come

הַבָּ֣א

 

עָלֵ֔ינוּ

deeds

בְּמַֽעֲשֵׂ֙ינוּ֙

upon us for our evil

הָֽרָעִ֔ים

trespass

וּבְאַשְׁמָתֵ֖נוּ

and for our great

הַגְּדֹלָ֑ה

 

כִּ֣י׀

 

אַתָּ֣ה

seeing that thou our God

אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ

hast punished

חָשַׂ֤כְתָּֽ

us less

לְמַ֙טָּה֙

than our iniquities

מֵֽעֲוֹנֵ֔נוּ

deserve and hast given

וְנָתַ֥תָּה

 

לָּ֛נוּ

us such deliverance

פְּלֵיטָ֖ה

 

כָּזֹֽאת׃

Should we again

הֲנָשׁוּב֙

break

לְהָפֵ֣ר

thy commandments

מִצְוֹתֶ֔יךָ

and join in affinity

וּ֨לְהִתְחַתֵּ֔ן

with the people

בְּעַמֵּ֥י

of these abominations

הַתֹּֽעֵב֖וֹת

 

הָאֵ֑לֶּה

 

הֲל֤וֹא

wouldest not thou be angry

תֶֽאֱנַף

 

בָּ֙נוּ֙

 

עַד

with us till thou hadst consumed

כַּלֵּ֔ה

 

לְאֵ֥ין

us so that there should be no remnant

שְׁאֵרִ֖ית

nor escaping

וּפְלֵיטָֽה׃

O LORD

יְהוָ֞ה

God

אֱלֹהֵ֤י

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

thou art righteous

צַדִּ֣יק

 

אַ֔תָּה

 

כִּֽי

for we remain

נִשְׁאַ֥רְנוּ

yet escaped

פְלֵיטָ֖ה

as it is this day

כְּהַיּ֣וֹם

 

הַזֶּ֑ה

 

הִנְנ֤וּ

before

לְפָנֶ֖יךָ

thee in our trespasses

בְּאַשְׁמָתֵ֔ינוּ

 

כִּ֣י

 

אֵ֥ין

for we cannot stand

לַֽעֲמ֛וֹד

before

לְפָנֶ֖יךָ

 

עַל
