spake
כְּדַבֵּ֤ר
When Ephraim
אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙
trembling
רְתֵ֔ת
he exalted
נָשָׂ֥א

ה֖וּא
himself in Israel
בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל
but when he offended
וַיֶּאְשַׁ֥ם
in Baal
בַּבַּ֖עַל
he died
וַיָּמֹֽת׃
2

וְעַתָּ֣ה׀
more and more
יוֹסִ֣פוּ
And now they sin
לַחֲטֹ֗א
and have made
וַיַּעְשׂ֣וּ

לָהֶם֩
them molten images
מַסֵּכָ֨ה
of their silver
מִכַּסְפָּ֤ם
according to their own understanding
כִּתְבוּנָם֙
and idols
עֲצַבִּ֔ים
all of it the work
מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה
of the craftsmen
חָרָשִׁ֖ים

כֻּלֹּ֑ה

לָהֶם֙

הֵ֣ם
they say
אֹמְרִ֔ים
that sacrifice
זֹבְחֵ֣י
of them Let the men
אָדָ֔ם
the calves
עֲגָלִ֖ים
kiss
יִשָּׁקֽוּן׃
3

לָכֵ֗ן

יִֽהְיוּ֙
cloud
כַּעֲנַן
Therefore they shall be as the morning
בֹּ֔קֶר
dew
וְכַטַּ֖ל
and as the early
מַשְׁכִּ֣ים
that passeth away
הֹלֵ֑ךְ
as the chaff
כְּמֹץ֙
that is driven with the whirlwind
יְסֹעֵ֣ר
out of the floor
מִגֹּ֔רֶן
and as the smoke
וּכְעָשָׁ֖ן
out of the chimney
מֵאֲרֻבָּֽה׃
4

וְאָנֹכִ֛י
Yet I am the LORD
יְהוָ֥ה
no god
וֵאלֹהִ֤ים
from the land
מֵאֶ֣רֶץ
of Egypt
מִצְרָ֑יִם
no god
וֵאלֹהִ֤ים
but me
זֽוּלָתִי֙

לֹ֣א
and thou shalt know
תֵדָ֔ע
for there is no saviour
וּמוֹשִׁ֥יעַ

אַ֖יִן
beside me
בִּלְתִּֽי׃
5

אֲנִ֥י
I did know
יְדַעְתִּ֖יךָ
thee in the wilderness
בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר
in the land
בְּאֶ֖רֶץ
of great drought
תַּלְאֻבֽוֹת׃
6
According to their pasture
כְּמַרְעִיתָם֙
so were they filled

so were they filled
שָׂבְע֖וּ
was exalted
וַיָּ֣רָם
and their heart
לִבָּ֑ם

עַל

כֵּ֖ן
therefore have they forgotten
שְׁכֵחֽוּנִי׃
7

וָאֱהִ֥י

לָהֶ֖ם

כְּמוֹ
Therefore I will be unto them as a lion
שָׁ֑חַל
as a leopard
כְּנָמֵ֖ר

עַל
by the way
דֶּ֥רֶךְ
will I observe
אָשֽׁוּר׃
8
I will meet
אֶפְגְּשֵׁם֙
them as a bear
כְּדֹ֣ב
that is bereaved
שַׁכּ֔וּל
of her whelps and will rend
וְאֶקְרַ֖ע
the caul
סְג֣וֹר
of their heart
לִבָּ֑ם
and there will I devour
וְאֹכְלֵ֥ם

שָׁם֙
them like a lion
כְּלָבִ֔יא
beast
חַיַּ֥ת
the wild
הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה
shall tear
תְּבַקְּעֵֽם׃
9
thou hast destroyed
שִֽׁחֶתְךָ֥
O Israel
יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

כִּֽי

בִ֥י
thyself but in me is thine help
בְעֶזְרֶֽךָ׃
10
I will
אֱהִ֤י

Give
תְּנָה

לִּ֖י
be thy king
מֶ֥לֶךְ

I gave
אֶֽתֶּן

לְךָ֥
thee a king
מֶ֙לֶךְ֙
in mine anger

him away in my wrath
בְּעֶבְרָתִֽי׃
