a tree

עֵץ֙

out of the forest

מִיַּ֣עַר

for one cutteth

כְּרָת֔וֹ

the work

מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה

of the hands

יְדֵ֥י

of the workman

חָרָ֖שׁ

with the axe

בַּֽמַּעֲצָֽד׃

it with silver

בְּכֶ֥סֶף

and with gold

וּבְזָהָ֖ב

They deck

יְיַפֵּ֑הוּ

it with nails

בְּמַסְמְר֧וֹת

and with hammers

וּבְמַקָּב֛וֹת

they fasten

יְחַזְּק֖וּם

 

וְל֥וֹא

that it move

יָפִֽיק׃

as the palm tree

כְּתֹ֨מֶר

They are upright

מִקְשָׁ֥ה

 

הֵ֙מָּה֙

 

וְלֹ֣א

but speak

יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ

be borne

יִנָּשׂ֖וּא

be borne

יִנָּשׂ֖וּא

 

כִּ֣י

 

לֹ֣א

because they cannot go

יִצְעָ֑דוּ

 

אַל

Be not afraid

תִּֽירְא֤וּ

 

מֵהֶם֙

 

כִּי

 

לֹ֣א

of them for they cannot do evil

יָרֵ֔עוּ

 

וְגַם

neither also is it in them to do good

הֵיטֵ֖יב

 

אֵ֥ין

 

אוֹתָֽם׃

כָּמ֖וֹךָ

Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee O LORD

יְהוָ֑ה

is great

וְגָד֥וֹל

 

אַתָּ֛ה

and thy name

שִׁמְךָ֖

in might

בִּגְבוּרָֽה׃

 

מִ֣י

 

לֹ֤א

Who would not fear

יִֽרָאֲךָ֙

thee O King

מֶ֣לֶךְ

men of the nations

הַגּוֹיִ֛ם

 

כִּ֥י

 

לְךָ֖

for to thee doth it appertain

יָאָ֑תָה

 

כִּ֣י

 

בְכָל

forasmuch as among all the wise

חַכְמֵ֧י

men of the nations

הַגּוֹיִ֛ם

 

וּבְכָל

and in all their kingdoms

מַלְכוּתָ֖ם

 

מֵאֵ֥ין

 

כָּמֽוֹךָ׃

But they are altogether

וּבְאַחַ֖ת

brutish

יִבְעֲר֣וּ

and foolish

וְיִכְסָ֑לוּ

is a doctrine

מוּסַ֥ר

of vanities

הֲבָלִ֖ים

the stock

עֵ֥ץ

 

הֽוּא׃

Silver

כֶּ֣סֶף

spread into plates

מְרֻקָּ֞ע

from Tarshish

מִתַּרְשִׁ֣ישׁ

is brought

יוּבָ֗א

and gold

וְזָהָב֙

from Uphaz

מֵֽאוּפָ֔ז

the work

מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה

of the workman

חָרָ֖שׁ

and of the hands

וִידֵ֣י

of the founder

צוֹרֵ֑ף

blue

תְּכֵ֤לֶת

and purple

וְאַרְגָּמָן֙

is their clothing

לְבוּשָׁ֔ם

the work

מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה

of cunning

חֲכָמִ֖ים

 

כֻּלָּֽם׃

But the LORD

וַֽיהוָ֤ה

God

אֱלֹהִ֥ים

is the true

אֱמֶ֔ת

 

הֽוּא

God

אֱלֹהִ֥ים

he is the living

חַיִּ֖ים

king

וּמֶ֣לֶךְ

and an everlasting

עוֹלָ֑ם

at his wrath

מִקִּצְפּוֹ֙

shall tremble

תִּרְעַ֣שׁ

the earth

הָאָ֔רֶץ

 

וְלֹֽא

shall not be able to abide

יָכִ֥לוּ

and the nations

גוֹיִ֖ם

his indignation

זַעְמֽוֹ׃

Thus

כִּדְנָה֙

shall ye say

תֵּאמְר֣וּן

 

לְה֔וֹם

unto them The gods

אֱלָ֣הַיָּ֔א

 

דִּֽי

heavens

שְׁמַיָּ֖א

and the earth

וְאַרְקָ֖א

that have not

לָ֣א

made

עֲבַ֑דוּ

even they shall perish

יֵאבַ֧דוּ

from the earth

מֵֽאַרְעָ֛א

 

וּמִן

and from under

תְּח֥וֹת

heavens

שְׁמַיָּ֖א

these

אֵֽלֶּה׃

He hath made

עֹשֵׂ֥ה

the earth

אֶ֙רֶץ֙

by his power

בְּכֹח֔וֹ

he hath established

מֵכִ֥ין

the world

תֵּבֵ֖ל

by his wisdom

בְּחָכְמָת֑וֹ

by his discretion

וּבִתְבוּנָת֖וֹ

and hath stretched out

נָטָ֥ה

the heavens

שָׁמָֽיִם׃

his voice

לְק֨וֹל

When he uttereth

תִּתּ֜וֹ

there is a multitude

הֲמ֥וֹן

of waters

מַ֙יִם֙

in the heavens

בַּשָּׁמַ֔יִם

to ascend

וַיַּעֲלֶ֥ה

and he causeth the vapours

נְשִׂאִ֖ים

from the ends

מִקְצֵ֣ה

of the earth

אָ֑רֶץ

lightnings

בְּרָקִ֤ים

with rain

לַמָּטָר֙

he maketh

עָשָׂ֔ה

and bringeth forth

וַיּ֥וֹצֵא

the wind

ר֖וּחַ

out of his treasures

מֵאֹצְרֹתָֽיו׃

is brutish

נִבְעַ֤ר

 

כָּל

Every man

אָדָם֙

in his knowledge

מִדַּ֔עַת

is confounded

every founder

צוֹרֵ֖ף

by the graven image

is falsehood

שֶׁ֥קֶר

for his molten image

and there is no breath

They are vanity

and the work

מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה

of errors

תַּעְתֻּעִ֑ים

of their visitation

פְּקֻדָּתָ֖ם

they shall perish

יֹאבֵֽדוּ׃

כְאֵ֜לֶּה

The portion

חֵ֣לֶק

of Jacob

יַעֲקֹ֗ב

 

כִּֽי

is not like them for he is the former

יוֹצֵ֤ר

 

הַכֹּל֙

 

ה֔וּא

of all things and Israel

וְיִ֨שְׂרָאֵ֔ל

is the rod

שֵׁ֖בֶט

of his inheritance

נַֽחֲלָת֑וֹ

The LORD

יְהוָ֥ה

of hosts

צְבָא֖וֹת

is his name

שְׁמֽוֹ׃

Gather up

אִסְפִּ֥י

out of the land

מֵאֶ֖רֶץ

thy wares

כִּנְעָתֵ֑ךְ

O inhabitant

יֹשֶׁ֖בֶתי

of the fortress

בַּמָּצֽוֹר׃

 

כִּֽי

 

כֹה֙

For thus saith

אָמַ֣ר

the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

 

הִנְנִ֥י

Behold I will sling

קוֹלֵ֛עַ

 

אֶת

out the inhabitants

יוֹשְׁבֵ֥י

of the land

הָאָ֖רֶץ

at this once

בַּפַּ֣עַם

 

הַזֹּ֑את

and will distress

וַהֲצֵרֹ֥תִי

 

לָהֶ֖ם

 

לְמַ֥עַן

them that they may find

יִמְצָֽאוּ׃

Woe

א֥וֹי

 

לִי֙

 

עַל

is me for my hurt

שִׁבְרִ֔י

is grievous

נַחְלָ֖ה

my wound

מַכָּתִ֑י

 

וַאֲנִ֣י

but I said

אָמַ֔רְתִּי

Truly

אַ֛ךְ

 

זֶ֥ה

this is a grief

חֳלִ֖י

and I must bear

וְאֶשָּׂאֶֽנּוּ׃

My tabernacle

אָהֳלִ֔י

is spoiled

שֻׁדָּ֔ד

 

וְכָל

and all my cords

מֵיתָרַ֖י

are broken

נִתָּ֑קוּ

my children

בָּנַ֤י

are gone forth

יְצָאֻ֙נִי֙

 

וְאֵינָ֔ם

 

אֵין

of me and they are not there is none to stretch forth

נֹטֶ֥ה

 

עוֹד֙

My tabernacle

אָהֳלִ֔י

any more and to set up

וּמֵקִ֖ים

my curtains

יְרִיעוֹתָֽי׃

 

כִּ֤י

are become brutish

נִבְעֲרוּ֙

For the pastors

הָֽרֹעִ֔ים

 

וְאֶת

the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

 

לֹ֣א

and have not sought

דָרָ֑שׁוּ

 

עַל

 

כֵּן֙

 

לֹ֣א

therefore they shall not prosper

הִשְׂכִּ֔ילוּ

 

וְכָל

and all their flocks

מַרְעִיתָ֖ם

shall be scattered

נָפֽוֹצָה׃

Behold the noise

ק֤וֹל

of the bruit

שְׁמוּעָה֙

 

הִנֵּ֣ה

is come

בָאָ֔ה

commotion

וְרַ֥עַשׁ

and a great

גָּד֖וֹל

country

מֵאֶ֣רֶץ

out of the north

צָפ֑וֹן

to make

לָשׂ֞וּם

 

אֶת

the cities

עָרֵ֧י

of Judah

יְהוּדָ֛ה

desolate

שְׁמָמָ֖ה

and a den

מְע֥וֹן

of dragons

תַּנִּֽים׃

I know

יָדַ֣עְתִּי

O LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

 

כִּ֛י

 

לֹ֥א

of man

לָאָדָ֖ם

that the way

דַּרְכּ֑וֹ

 

לֹֽא

is not in himself it is not in man

לְאִ֣ישׁ

that walketh

הֹלֵ֔ךְ

to direct

וְהָכִ֖ין

 

אֶֽת

his steps

צַעֲדֽוֹ׃

correct

יַסְּרֵ֥נִי

O LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

 

אַךְ

me but with judgment

בְּמִשְׁפָּ֑ט

 

אַל

not in thine anger

בְּאַפְּךָ֖

 

פֶּן

lest thou bring me to nothing

תַּמְעִטֵֽנִי׃

Pour out

שְׁפֹ֣ךְ

thy fury

חֲמָתְךָ֗

 

עַל

upon the heathen

הַגּוֹיִם֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

 

לֹֽא

that know

יְדָע֔וּךָ

 

וְעַל֙

thee not and upon the families

מִשְׁפָּח֔וֹת

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

not on thy name

בְּשִׁמְךָ֖

 

לֹ֣א

that call

קָרָ֑אוּ

 

כִּֽי

and devoured

וַאֲכָלֻ֙הוּ֙

 

אֶֽת

יַעֲקֹ֗ב

him and have made his habitation

נָוֵ֖הוּ
