but they are not valiant

בָאָ֑רֶץ

יַעְקֹ֔ב

and every neighbour

with slanders

רָכִ֥יל

בְּרֵעֵ֙הוּ֙

And they will deceive

יְהָתֵ֔לּוּ

the truth

וֶאֱמֶ֖ת

and will not speak

they have taught

לִמְּד֧וּ

their tongue

לְשׁוֹנָ֛ם

themselves to commit iniquity

הַעֲוֵ֥ה

and weary

נִלְאֽוּ׃

Thine habitation

שִׁבְתְּךָ֖

is in the midst

בְּת֣וֹךְ

of deceit

בְּמִרְמָ֛ה

of deceit

they refuse

מֵאֲנ֥וּ

to know

דַֽעַת

 

אוֹתִ֖י

me saith

נְאֻם

the LORD

לָכֵ֗ן

Therefore thus saith

אָמַר֙

the LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

of hosts

צְבָא֔וֹת

 

הִנְנִ֥י

Behold I will melt

צוֹרְפָ֖ם

them and try

וּבְחַנְתִּ֑ים

 

כִּֽי

 

אֵ֣יךְ

them for how shall I do

אֶעֱשֶׂ֔ה

for

מִפְּנֵ֖י

the daughter

בַּת

of my people

עַמִּֽי׃

is as an arrow

חֵ֥ץ

shot out

שָׁו֛חּט

Their tongue

לְשׁוֹנָ֖ם

deceit

מִרְמָ֣ה

it speaketh

יְדַבֵּ֔ר

with his mouth

בְּפִ֗יו

peaceably

שָׁל֤וֹם

 

אֶת

to his neighbour

רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙

it speaketh

but in heart

וּבְקִרְבּ֖וֹ

he layeth

For the mountains

הֶ֨הָרִ֜ים

will I take up

אֶשָּׂ֧א

a weeping

בְכִ֣י

and wailing

וָנֶ֗הִי

 

וְעַל

and for the habitations

נְא֤וֹת

of the wilderness

מִדְבָּר֙

a lamentation

קִינָ֔ה

 

כִּ֤י

because they are burned up

נִצְּתוּ֙

 

מִבְּלִי

so that none

אִ֣ישׁ

can pass

עֹבֵ֔ר

 

וְלֹ֥א

through them neither can men hear

שָׁמְע֖וּ

the voice

ק֣וֹל

of the cattle

מִקְנֶ֑ה

both the fowl

and the beast

בְּהֵמָ֔ה

And I will make

Jerusalem

לְגַלִּ֖ים

the cities

And I will make

אֶתֵּ֥ן

desolate

שְׁמָמָ֖ה

 

מִבְּלִ֖י

without an inhabitant

יוֹשֵֽׁב׃

הָאִ֤ישׁ

Who is the wise

הֶֽחָכָם֙

that may understand

וְיָבֵ֣ן

וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר

hath spoken

this and who is he to whom the mouth

which I set

לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם

them and have not obeyed

שָׁמְע֥וּ

my voice

בְקוֹלִ֖י

 

וְלֹא

neither walked

הָ֥לְכוּ

 

בָֽהּ׃

 

וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ

וְאַחֲרֵי֙

the imagination

שְׁרִר֣וּת

of their own heart

לִבָּ֑ם

וְאַחֲרֵי֙

Baalim

הַבְּעָלִ֔ים

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

לִמְּד֖וּם

which their fathers

Therefore thus saith

אָמַ֞ר

the LORD

יְהוָ֤ה

of hosts

צְבָאוֹת֙

אֱלֹהֵ֣י

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

 

הִנְנִ֧י

Behold I will feed

מַאֲכִילָ֛ם

 

אֶת

them even this people

הָעָ֥ם

 

הַזֶּ֖ה

with wormwood

לַֽעֲנָ֑ה

to drink

וְהִשְׁקִיתִ֖ים

and give them water

מֵי

of gall

רֹֽאשׁ׃

I will scatter

וַהֲפִֽצוֹתִים֙

them also among the heathen

בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם

 

אֲשֶׁר֙

 

לֹ֣א

have known

יָֽדְע֔וּ

 

הֵ֖מָּה

whom neither they nor their fathers

וַֽאֲבוֹתָ֑ם

and I will send

וְשִׁלַּחְתִּ֤י

after

אַֽחֲרֵיהֶם֙

 

אֶת

a sword

הַחֶ֔רֶב

 

עַ֥ד

them till I have consumed

כַּלּוֹתִ֖י

 

אוֹתָֽם׃

 

כֹּ֤ה

Thus saith

אָמַר֙

the LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

of hosts

צְבָא֔וֹת

הִתְבּֽוֹנְנ֛וּ

ye and call

וְקִרְא֥וּ

for the mourning women

לַמְקוֹנְנ֖וֹת

that they may come

וְתָבֽוֹאנָה׃

 

וְאֶל

for cunning

הַחֲכָמ֥וֹת

and send

שִׁלְח֖וּ

that they may come

וְתָבֽוֹאנָה׃

And let them make haste

וּתְמַהֵ֕רְנָה

and take up

וְתִשֶּׂ֥נָה

 

עָלֵ֖ינוּ

a wailing

נֶ֑הִי

may run down

וְתֵרַ֤דְנָה

for us that our eyes

עֵינֵ֙ינוּ֙

with tears

דִּמְעָ֔ה

and our eyelids

וְעַפְעַפֵּ֖ינוּ

gush out

יִזְּלוּ

with waters

מָֽיִם׃

For a voice

ק֥וֹל

of wailing

נְהִ֛י

is heard

נִשְׁמַ֥ע

out of Zion

מִצִּיּ֖וֹן

 

אֵ֣יךְ

How are we spoiled

שֻׁדָּ֑דְנוּ

confounded

בֹּ֤שְׁנֽוּ

we are greatly

מְאֹד֙

 

כִּֽי

because we have forsaken

עָזַ֣בְנוּ

the land

אָ֔רֶץ

 

כִּ֥י

have cast us out

הִשְׁלִ֖יכוּ

because our dwellings

מִשְׁכְּנוֹתֵֽינוּ׃

 

כִּֽי

Yet hear

שְׁמַ֤עְנָה

O ye women

וְאִשָּׁ֥ה

the word

דְּבַר

of the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

receive

וְתִקַּ֥ח

and let your ear

אָזְנְכֶ֖ם

the word

דְּבַר

of his mouth

פִּ֑יו

and teach

וְלַמֵּ֤דְנָה

your daughters

בְנֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙

wailing

נֶ֔הִי

O ye women

וְאִשָּׁ֥ה

her neighbour

רְעוּתָ֖הּ

כִּֽי

is come up

עָ֤לָה

For death

מָ֙וֶת֙

into our windows

בְּחַלּוֹנֵ֔ינוּ

and is entered

into our palaces

בְּאַרְמְנוֹתֵ֑ינוּ

to cut off

לְהַכְרִ֤ית

the children

עוֹלָל֙

from without

מִח֔וּץ

and the young men

בַּחוּרִ֖ים

from the streets

מֵרְחֹבֽוֹת׃

Speak

דַּבֵּ֗ר

 

כֹּ֚ה

Thus saith

נְאֻם

the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

shall fall

וְנָֽפְלָה֙

Even the carcases

נִבְלַ֣ת

of men

הָֽאָדָ֔ם

as dung

כְּדֹ֖מֶן

 

עַל

upon the open

פְּנֵ֣י

field

הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה

and as the handful

וּכְעָמִ֛יר

after

מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י

the harvestman

הַקֹּצֵ֖ר

 

וְאֵ֥ין

and none shall gather

מְאַסֵּֽף׃

 

כֹּ֣ה׀

Thus saith

אָמַ֣ר

the LORD

יְהוָ֗ה

 

אַל

man glory

יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל

Let not the wise

חָכָם֙

in his wisdom

בְּחָכְמָת֔וֹ

 

וְאַל

man glory

יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל

neither let the mighty

הַגִּבּ֖וֹר

in his might

בִּגְבֽוּרָת֑וֹ

 

אַל

man glory

יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל

let not the rich

עָשִׁ֖יר

in his riches

בְּעָשְׁרֽוֹ׃

 

כִּ֣י

 

אִם

 

בְּזֹ֞את

But let him that glorieth

הַמִּתְהַלֵּ֗ל

But let him that glorieth

הַמִּתְהַלֵּ֗ל

in this that he understandeth

הַשְׂכֵּל֮

and knoweth

וְיָדֹ֣עַ

 

אוֹתִי֒

אֲנִ֣י
