and to drink

וְלִשְׁתּ֖וֹת

And it was so when the days

הַיָּמִֽים׃

of their feasting

הַמִּשְׁתֶּ֜ה

וַיִּשְׁלַ֧ח

אִיּ֖וֹב

and sanctified

וַֽיְקַדְּשֵׁ֗ם

them and rose up early

וְהִשְׁכִּ֣ים

in the morning

בַּבֹּקֶר֮

and offered

וְהֶֽעֱלָ֣ה

burnt offerings

עֹלוֹת֮

according to the number

מִסְפַּ֣ר

 

כֻּלָּם֒

 

כִּ֚י

said

אָמַ֣ר

Job

אִיּ֖וֹב

It may be

אוּלַי֙

have sinned

חָֽטְא֣וּ

that my sons

בָנַ֔י

and cursed

וּבֵרֲכ֥וּ

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

in their hearts

בִּלְבָבָ֑ם

Now there was a day

to present

לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב

themselves before the LORD

and Satan

הַשָּׂטָ֖ן

also among

בְּתוֹכָֽם׃

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֔ר

And the LORD

יְהוָה֙

 

אֶל

הַשָּׂטָ֤ן

מֵאַ֣יִן

comest

תָּבֹ֑א

answered

וַיַּ֨עַן

הַשָּׂטָ֤ן

And the LORD

יְהוָה֙

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֔ר

From going to and fro

מִשּׁ֣וּט

in the earth

בָּאָ֔רֶץ

and from walking up and down

וּמֵֽהִתְהַלֵּ֖ךְ

 

בָּֽהּ׃

said

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

And the LORD

יְהוָה֙

 

אֶל

unto Satan

הַשָּׂטָ֔ן

Hast thou considered

הֲשַׂ֥מְתָּ

 

לִבְּךָ֖

 

עַל

my servant

עַבְדִּ֣י

Job

אִיּ֑וֹב

 

כִּ֣י

 

אֵ֤ין

 

כָּמֹ֙הוּ֙

that there is none like him in the earth

בָּאָ֔רֶץ

man

אִ֣ישׁ

a perfect

תָּ֧ם

and an upright

וְיָשָׁ֛ר

one that feareth

יְרֵ֥א

God

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

and escheweth

וְסָ֥ר

evil

מֵרָֽע׃

Hast not thou made an hedge

thou hast blessed

וּמִקְנֵ֖הוּ

Behold all that he hath is in thy power

יָדֶ֑ךָ

 

רַ֣ק

 

אֵלָ֔יו

 

אַל

only upon himself put not forth

תִּשְׁלַ֖ח

Behold all that he hath is in thy power

went forth

וַיֵּצֵא֙

So Satan

And there came

The oxen

הַבָּקָר֙

 

הָי֣וּ

were plowing

חֹֽרְשׁ֔וֹת

and the asses

וְהָֽאֲתֹנ֖וֹת

feeding

רֹע֥וֹת

 

עַל

beside

יְדֵיהֶֽם׃

fell

וַתִּפֹּ֤ל

And the Sabeans

שְׁבָא֙

upon them and took them away

וַתִּקָּחֵ֔ם

 

וְאֶת

the servants

הַנְּעָרִ֖ים

yea they have slain

הִכּ֣וּ

with the edge

לְפִי

of the sword

חָ֑רֶב

and I only am escaped

וָאִמָּ֨לְטָ֧ה

 

רַק

 

אֲנִ֛י

 

לְבַדִּ֖י

alone to tell

לְהַגִּ֥יד

 

לָֽךְ׃

 

ע֣וֹד׀

 

זֶ֣ה

While he was yet speaking

מְדַבֵּ֗ר

 

וְזֶה֮

there came

בָּ֣א

also another and said

וַיֹּאמַר֒

The fire

אֵ֣שׁ

of God

אֱלֹהִ֗ים

is fallen

נָֽפְלָה֙

 

מִן

from heaven

הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם

and hath burned up

וַתִּבְעַ֥ר

the sheep

בַּצֹּ֛אן

and the servants

וּבַנְּעָרִ֖ים

and consumed

וַתֹּֽאכְלֵ֑ם

them and I only am escaped

וָאִמָּ֨לְטָ֧ה

הַגְּמַלִּים֙

and have carried them away

הַנְּעָרִ֖ים

yea and slain

הִכּ֣וּ

and smote

וַיִּגַּע֙

the four

בְּאַרְבַּע֙

corners

פִּנּ֣וֹת

of the house

הַבַּ֔יִת

and it fell

וַיִּפֹּ֥ל

 

עַל

upon the young men

הַנְּעָרִ֖ים

and they are dead

וַיָּמ֑וּתוּ

and I only am escaped

וָאִמָּ֨לְטָ֧ה

אֲנִ֛י

 

לְבַדִּ֖י

alone to tell

לְהַגִּ֥יד

 

לָֽךְ׃

arose

וַיָּ֤קָם

Then Job

אִיּוֹב֙

and rent

וַיִּקְרַ֣ע

 

אֶת

his mantle

מְעִל֔וֹ

and shaved

וַיָּ֖גָז

 

אֶת

his head

רֹאשׁ֑וֹ

and fell down

וַיִּפֹּ֥ל

upon the ground

אַ֖רְצָה

and worshipped

וַיִּשְׁתָּֽחוּ׃

And said

וַיֹּאמֶר֩

Naked

וְעָרֹם֙

came I out

יָצָ֜תִי

womb

מִבֶּ֣טֶן

of my mother's

אִמִּ֗י

Naked

וְעָרֹם֙

shall I return

אָשׁ֣וּב

 

שָׁ֔מָה

and the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

gave

נָתַ֔ן

and the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

hath taken away

לָקָ֑ח

 

יְהִ֛י

be the name

שֵׁ֥ם

and the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

blessed

מְבֹרָֽךְ׃

 

בְּכָל

 

זֹ֖את

 

לֹֽא

sinned

חָטָ֣א

In all this Job

אִיּ֑וֹב

 

וְלֹֽא

not nor charged

נָתַ֥ן

foolishly

תִּפְלָ֖ה
