be troubled

תִקְצַ֥ר

and if it were so why should not my spirit

רוּחִֽי׃

I am afraid

וְנִבְהָ֑לְתִּי

taketh hold on

וְאָחַ֥ז

my flesh

בְּ֝שָׂרִ֗י

and trembling

פַּלָּצֽוּת׃

 

מַדּ֣וּעַ

Wherefore do the wicked

רְשָׁעִ֣ים

live

יִחְי֑וּ

become old

עָ֝תְק֗וּ

 

גַּם

yea are mighty

גָּ֥בְרוּ

in power

חָֽיִל׃

Their seed

זַרְעָ֤ם

is established

נָכ֣וֹן

in their sight

לִפְנֵיהֶ֣ם

 

עִמָּ֑ם

with them and their offspring

וְ֝צֶאֱצָאֵיהֶ֗ם

before their eyes

לְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃

Their houses

בָּתֵּיהֶ֣ם

are safe

שָׁל֣וֹם

from fear

מִפָּ֑חַד

 

וְלֹ֤א

neither is the rod

שֵׁ֖בֶט

of God

אֱל֣וֹהַּ

 

עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

Their bull

שׁוֹר֣וֹ

gendereth

עִ֭בַּר

 

וְלֹ֣א

and faileth

יַגְעִ֑ל

calveth

תְּפַלֵּ֥ט

not their cow

פָּ֝רָת֗וֹ

 

וְלֹ֣א

and casteth not her calf

תְשַׁכֵּֽל׃

They send forth

יְשַׁלְּח֣וּ

like a flock

כַ֭צֹּאן

their little ones

עֲוִילֵיהֶ֑ם

and their children

וְ֝יַלְדֵיהֶ֗ם

dance

יְרַקֵּדֽוּן׃

They take

יִ֭שְׂאוּ

the timbrel

כְּתֹ֣ף

and harp

וְכִנּ֑וֹר

and rejoice

וְ֝יִשְׂמְח֗וּ

at the sound

לְק֣וֹל

of the organ

עוּגָֽב׃

 

יְבַלּ֣וּ

in wealth

בַטּ֣וֹב

their days

יְמֵיהֶ֑ם

and in a moment

וּ֝בְרֶ֗גַע

to the grave

שְׁא֣וֹל

 

יֵחָֽתּוּ׃

Therefore they say

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ

unto God

לָ֭אֵל

Depart

ס֣וּר

 

מִמֶּ֑נּוּ

not the knowledge

וְדַ֥עַת

of thy ways

דְּ֝רָכֶ֗יךָ

 

לֹ֣א

from us for we desire

חָפָֽצְנוּ׃

What is the Almighty

שַׁדַּ֥י

 

כִּֽי

that we should serve

נַֽעַבְדֶ֑נּוּ

 

וּמַה

him and what profit

נּ֝וֹעִ֗יל

 

כִּ֣י

should we have if we pray

נִפְגַּע

 

בּֽוֹ׃

is not in their hand

בְיָדָ֣ם

Lo their good

טוּבָ֑ם

the counsel

עֲצַ֥ת

of the wicked

רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים

is far

רָ֣חֲקָה

כַּמָּ֤ה׀

How oft is the candle

נֵר

of the wicked

רְשָׁ֘עִ֤ים

put out

יִדְעָ֗ךְ

and how oft cometh

וְיָבֹ֣א

 

עָלֵ֣ימוֹ

their destruction

אֵידָ֑ם

sorrows

חֲ֝בָלִ֗ים

upon them! God distributeth

יְחַלֵּ֥ק

in his anger

בְּאַפּֽוֹ׃

 

יִהְי֗וּ

They are as stubble

כְּתֶ֥בֶן

before

לִפְנֵי

the wind

ר֑וּחַ

and as chaff

וּ֝כְמֹ֗ץ

carrieth away

גְּנָבַ֥תּוּ

that the storm

סוּפָֽה׃

God

אֱל֗וֹהַּ

layeth up

יִצְפֹּן

for his children

לְבָנָ֥יו

his iniquity

אוֹנ֑וֹ

he rewardeth

יְשַׁלֵּ֖ם

 

אֵלָ֣יו

him and he shall know

וְיֵדָֽע׃

shall see

יִרְא֣וּ

His eyes

עֵינָ֣ו

his destruction

כִּיד֑וֹ

of the wrath

וּמֵחֲמַ֖ת

of the Almighty

שַׁדַּ֣י

and he shall drink

יִשְׁתֶּֽה׃

 

כִּ֤י

 

מַה

For what pleasure

חֶפְצ֣וֹ

hath he in his house

בְּבֵית֣וֹ

after

אַחֲרָ֑יו

him when the number

וּמִסְפַּ֖ר

of his months

חֳדָשָׁ֣יו

is cut off in the midst

חֻצָּֽצוּ׃

God

הַלְאֵ֥ל

Shall any teach

יְלַמֶּד

knowledge

דָּ֑עַת

 

וְ֝ה֗וּא

those that are high

רָמִ֥ים

seeing he judgeth

יִשְׁפּֽוֹט׃

 

זֶ֗ה

One dieth

יָ֭מוּת

strength

בְּעֶ֣צֶם

in his full

תֻּמּ֑וֹ

 

כֻּ֝לּ֗וֹ

being wholly at ease

שַׁלְאֲנַ֥ן

and quiet

וְשָׁלֵֽיו׃

His breasts

עֲ֭טִינָיו

are full

מָלְא֣וּ

of milk

חָלָ֑ב

with marrow

וּמֹ֖חַ

and his bones

עַצְמוֹתָ֣יו

are moistened

יְשֻׁקֶּֽה׃

 

וְזֶ֗ה

And another dieth

יָ֭מוּת

of his soul

בְּנֶ֣פֶשׁ

in the bitterness

מָרָ֑ה

 

וְלֹֽא

and never eateth

אָ֝כַ֗ל

with pleasure

בַּטּוֹבָֽה׃

alike

יַ֭חַד

 

עַל

in the dust

עָפָ֣ר

They shall lie down

יִשְׁכָּ֑בוּ

and the worms

וְ֝רִמָּ֗ה

shall cover

תְּכַסֶּ֥ה

 

עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

 

הֵ֣ן

Behold I know

יָ֭דַעְתִּי

your thoughts

מַחְשְׁבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם

and the devices

וּ֝מְזִמּ֗וֹת

 

עָלַ֥י

which ye wrongfully imagine

תַּחְמֹֽסוּ׃

 

כִּ֤י

For ye say

תֹֽאמְר֗וּ

 

אַיֵּ֥ה

Where is the house

בֵית

of the prince

נָדִ֑יב

 

וְ֝אַיֵּ֗ה

places

אֹ֤הֶל׀

and where are the dwelling

מִשְׁכְּנ֬וֹת

of the wicked

רְשָׁעִֽים׃

 

הֲלֹ֣א

Have ye not asked

שְׁ֭אֶלְתֶּם

them that go

ע֣וֹבְרֵי

by the way

דָ֑רֶךְ

their tokens

וְ֝אֹתֹתָ֗ם

 

לֹ֣א

and do ye not know

תְנַכֵּֽרוּ׃

 

כִּ֤י

to the day

לְי֖וֹם

of destruction

אֵ֭יד

is reserved

יֵחָ֣שֶׂךְ

That the wicked

רָ֑ע

to the day

לְי֖וֹם

of wrath

עֲבָר֣וֹת

they shall be brought forth

יוּבָֽלוּ׃

 

מִֽי

Who shall declare

יַגִּ֣יד

 

עַל

to his face

פָּנָ֣יו

his way

דַּרְכּ֑וֹ

 

וְהֽוּא

him what he hath done

עָ֝שָׂ֗ה

 

מִ֣י

and who shall repay

יְשַׁלֶּם

 

לֽוֹ׃

 

וְ֭הוּא

to the grave

לִקְבָר֣וֹת

Yet shall he be brought

יוּבָ֑ל

 

וְֽעַל

in the tomb

גָּדִ֥ישׁ

and shall remain

יִשְׁקֽוֹד׃

shall be sweet

מָֽתְקוּ

 

ל֗וֹ

The clods

רִגְבֵ֫י

of the valley

נָ֥חַל

after

וְ֭אַחֲרָיו

 

כָּל

unto him and every man

אָדָ֣ם

shall draw

יִמְשׁ֑וֹךְ

before

וּ֝לְפָנָ֗יו

 

אֵ֣ין

him as there are innumerable

מִסְפָּֽר׃

 

וְ֭אֵיךְ

How then comfort

תְּנַחֲמ֣וּנִי

ye me in vain

הָ֑בֶל

seeing in your answers

וּ֝תְשֽׁוּבֹתֵיכֶ֗ם

there remaineth

נִשְׁאַר

falsehood

מָֽעַל׃
