Behold I have heard
שָׁמַ֔עְתִּי

that there is

corn
שֶׁ֖בֶר
in Egypt
בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם
get you down
רְדוּ
 
שָׁ֙מָּה֙
thither and buy
וְשִׁבְרוּ
 
לָ֣נוּ
 
מִשָּׁ֔ם
for us from thence that we may live
וְנִֽחְיֶ֖ה
 
וְלֹ֥א
and not die
נָמֽוּת׃

לְכָל
to all the people

וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙

and bowed down
וַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ

themselves before him with their faces

unto them and spake

remembered
וַיִּזְכֹּ֣ר
And Joseph

the dreams
הַֽחֲלֹמ֔וֹת
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר
which he dreamed
חָלַ֖ם
 
לָהֶ֑ם
of them and said
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר
 
אֲלֵהֶם֙
unto them Ye are spies
מְרַגְּלִ֣ים
 
אַתֶּ֔ם
to see
לִרְא֛וֹת
 
אֶת
the nakedness
עֶרְוַ֥ת
of the land
הָאָ֖רֶץ
ye are come
בָּאתֶֽם׃

And they said
וַיֹּֽאמְר֥וּ
 
אֵלָ֖יו
 
לֹ֣א
unto him Nay my lord
אֲדֹנִ֑י
are thy servants
וַֽעֲבָדֶ֥יךָ
come
בָּ֖אוּ
but to buy
לִשְׁבָּר
food
אֹֽכֶל׃

כֻּלָּ֕נוּ
sons
בְּנֵ֥י
man's
אִישׁ
are all one
אֶחָ֖ד
We
נָ֑חְנוּ
we are true
כֵּנִ֣ים
 
אֲנַ֔חְנוּ
 
לֹֽא
 
הָי֥וּ
men thy servants
עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ
are no spies
מְרַגְּלִֽים׃

And he said
וַיֹּ֖אמֶר
 
אֲלֵהֶ֑ם
 
לֹ֕א

the nakedness
עֶרְוַ֥ת
of the land
הָאָ֖רֶץ
ye are come
בָּאתֶ֥ם
unto them Nay but to see
לִרְאֽוֹת׃

And they said
וַיֹּֽאמְר֗וּ
are twelve
שְׁנֵ֣ים
 
עָשָׂר֩
Thy servants
עֲבָדֶ֨יךָ
brethren
אַחִ֧ים׀
 
אֲנַ֛חְנוּ
the sons
בְּנֵ֥י
man
אִישׁ
and one
וְהָֽאֶחָ֖ד
in the land
בְּאֶ֣רֶץ
of Canaan
כְּנָ֑עַן
 
וְהִנֵּ֨ה
and behold the youngest
הַקָּטֹ֤ן
 
אֶת
with our father
אָבִ֙ינוּ֙
is this day
הַיּ֔וֹם
and one
וְהָֽאֶחָ֖ד
 
אֵינֶֽנּוּ׃

לֵאמֹ֖ר
 
אֲלֵהֶ֖ם

unto them That is it that I spake
דִּבַּ֧רְתִּי
 
אֲלֵכֶ֛ם

Ye are spies
מְרַגְּלִ֥ים
 
אַתֶּֽם׃

Hereby
בְּזֹ֖את
ye shall be proved
תִּבָּחֵ֑נוּ
By the life
חֵ֤י
of Pharaoh
פַרְעֹה֙
 
אִם
ye shall not go forth
תֵּֽצְא֣וּ
 
מִזֶּ֔ה
 
כִּ֧י
 
אִם
come
בְּב֛וֹא
brother
אֲחִיכֶ֥ם
hence except your youngest
הַקָּטֹ֖ן
 
הֵֽנָּה׃

Send
שִׁלְח֨וּ
 
מִכֶּ֣ם
one
אֶחָד֮
of you and let him fetch
וְיִקַּ֣ח
 
אֶת
your brother
אֲחִיכֶם֒
 
וְאַתֶּם֙
and ye shall be kept in prison
הֵאָ֣סְר֔וּ
may be proved
וְיִבָּֽחֲנוּ֙
that your words
דִּבְרֵיכֶ֔ם
whether there be any truth
הַֽאֱמֶ֖ת
in
אִתְּכֶ֑ם
 
וְאִם
you or else
לֹ֕א
by the life
חֵ֣י
of Pharaoh
פַרְעֹ֔ה
 
כִּ֥י
surely ye are spies
מְרַגְּלִ֖ים
 
אַתֶּֽם׃

And he put them all together
וַיֶּֽאֱסֹ֥ף

If ye be true

of your brethren
אֲחִיכֶ֣ם
men let one
אֶחָ֔ד
be bound
יֵֽאָסֵ֖ר
in the house
בָּֽתֵּיכֶֽם׃
of your prison
מִשְׁמַרְכֶ֑ם
 
וְאַתֶּם֙
 
לְכ֣וּ
ye carry
הָבִ֔יאוּ
corn
שֶׁ֖בֶר
for the famine
רַֽעֲב֥וֹן
in the house
בָּֽתֵּיכֶֽם׃

your youngest
הַקָּטֹן֙
But bring
תָּבִ֣יאוּ
 
אֵלַ֔י
be verified
וְיֵאָֽמְנ֥וּ
unto me so shall your words
דִבְרֵיכֶ֖ם
 
וְלֹ֣א
and ye shall not die
תָמ֑וּתוּ
And they did
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ

And they said
וַיֹּֽאמְר֞וּ
one
אִ֣ישׁ

concerning our brother
אָחִינוּ֒
We are verily
אֲבָל֮
guilty
אֲשֵׁמִ֣ים׀
 
אֲנַחְנוּ֮
 
עַל
concerning our brother

we saw
רָאִ֜ינוּ
the anguish
הַצָּרָ֖ה
of his soul
נַפְשׁ֛וֹ
when he besought
בְּהִתְחַֽנְנ֥וֹ

וְלֹ֣א
us and we would not hear
שָׁמָ֑עְנוּ

the anguish

therefore behold also his blood

הִנֵּ֥ה

And they knew
יָֽדְע֔וּ

understood
שֹׁמֵ֖עַ
not that Joseph

them for he spake unto them by an interpreter
הַמֵּלִ֖יץ
 
בֵּֽינֹתָֽם׃

And he turned himself about
וַיִּסֹּ֥ב
 
מֵֽעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם
from them and wept
וַיֵּ֑בְךְּ
and returned to them again
וַיָּ֤שָׁב
 
אֲלֵהֶם֙
and communed
וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר
 
אֲלֵהֶ֔ם
with them and took
וַיִּקַּ֤ח
 
מֵֽאִתָּם֙
 
אֶת
from them Simeon
שִׁמְע֔וֹן
and bound
וַיֶּֽאֱסֹ֥ר
 
אֹת֖וֹ
him before their eyes
לְעֵֽינֵיהֶֽם׃

to fill
וַיְמַלְא֣וּ

their sacks
כְּלֵיהֶם֮
with corn
בָּר֒
and to restore
וּלְהָשִׁ֤יב
money
כַּסְפֵּיהֶם֙
every man's
אִ֣ישׁ
 
אֶל
into his sack
שַׂקּ֔וֹ
and to give
וְלָתֵ֥ת
 
לָהֶ֛ם
them provision
צֵדָ֖ה
for the way
לַדָּ֑רֶךְ
did he
וַיַּ֥עַשׂ
 
לָהֶ֖ם
and thus
כֵּֽן׃

And they laded
וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ
 
אֶת
with the corn
שִׁבְרָ֖ם
 
עַל
their asses
חֲמֹֽרֵיהֶ֑ם
 
וַיֵּֽלְכ֖וּ
 
מִשָּֽׁם׃

of them opened
וַיִּפְתַּ֨ח
And as one
הָֽאֶחָ֜ד
 
אֶת
his sack
שַׂקּ֗וֹ
to give
לָתֵ֥ת
provender
מִסְפּ֛וֹא
his ass
לַֽחֲמֹר֖וֹ
in the inn
בַּמָּל֑וֹן
he espied
וַיַּרְא֙
 
אֶת
his money
כַּסְפּ֔וֹ
 
וְהִנֵּה
 
ה֖וּא
mouth
בְּפִ֥י
for behold it was in his sack's
אַמְתַּחְתּֽוֹ׃

And he said
לֵאמֹ֔ר
 
אֶל
to another
אָחִיו֙
is restored
הוּשַׁ֣ב
My money
כַּסְפִּ֔י
 
וְגַ֖ם
and lo
הִנֵּ֣ה
it is even in my sack
בְאַמְתַּחְתִּ֑י
failed
וַיֵּצֵ֣א
and their heart
לִבָּ֗ם
them and they were afraid
וַיֶּֽחֶרְד֞וּ
one
אִ֤ישׁ
 
אֶל
to another
אָחִיו֙
And he said
לֵאמֹ֔ר

What is this that God
אֱלֹהִ֖ים

unto Jacob

unto the land
אַ֣רְצָה
of Canaan
כְּנָ֑עַן
and told
וַיַּגִּ֣ידוּ
 
ל֔וֹ
 
אֵ֛ת
 
כָּל
him all that befell
הַקֹּרֹ֥ת
 
אֹתָ֖ם
unto them saying
לֵאמֹֽר׃

spake
דִּ֠בֶּר
 
הָאִ֨ישׁ
who is the lord
אֲדֹנֵ֥י
of the country
הָאָֽרֶץ׃
 
אִתָּ֖נוּ
roughly
קָשׁ֑וֹת
to us and took
וַיִּתֵּ֣ן
 
אֹתָ֔נוּ
us for spies
כִּֽמְרַגְּלִ֖ים
 
אֶת
of the country
הָאָֽרֶץ׃

And we said
וַנֹּ֥אמֶר
 
אֵלָ֖יו
unto him We are true
כֵּנִ֣ים
 
אֲנָ֑חְנוּ

הָיִ֖ינוּ
men we are no spies

unto us Hereby shall I know
אֵדַ֔ע

that ye are true
כֵנִ֖ים
 
אַתֶּ֑ם
of your brethren
אֲחִיכֶ֤ם
one
הָֽאֶחָד֙
men leave
הַנִּ֣יחוּ
 
אִתִּ֔י

food for the famine
רַֽעֲב֥וֹן
of your households
בָּֽתֵּיכֶ֖ם
here with me and take
קְח֥וּ
 
וָלֵֽכוּ׃

unto me then shall I know
וְאֵֽדְעָ֗ה

that ye are no spies

but that ye are true

men so will I deliver

and ye shall traffick

And it came to pass as they emptied
מְרִיקִ֣ים
their sacks
בְּשַׂקּ֑וֹ
 
וְהִנֵּה
that behold every man's
אִ֥ישׁ
bundle
צְרֹר֧וֹת
of money
כַּסְפֵּיהֶ֛ם
their sacks
בְּשַׂקּ֑וֹ
saw
וַיִּרְא֞וּ
 
אֶת
bundle
צְרֹר֧וֹת
of money
כַּסְפֵּיהֶ֛ם
 
הֵ֥מָּה
and when both they and their father
וַֽאֲבִיהֶ֖ם
they were afraid
וַיִּירָֽאוּ׃

And Jacob

unto them Me have ye bereaved

Slay

if I bring

him not to thee deliver
תְּנָ֤ה
 
אֹתוֹ֙
 
עַל
him into my hand
יָדִ֔י

and I will bring him to thee again

And he said

לֹֽא
shall not go down
וְהֽוֹרַדְתֶּ֧ם
My son
בְּנִ֖י
 
עִמָּכֶ֑ם
 
כִּֽי
with you for his brother
אָחִ֨יו
is dead
מֵ֜ת
 
וְה֧וּא
 
לְבַדּ֣וֹ
and he is left
נִשְׁאָ֗ר
befall
וּקְרָאָ֤הוּ
alone if mischief
אָסוֹן֙
him by the way
בַּדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙
 
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
 
תֵּֽלְכוּ
 
בָ֔הּ
shall not go down
וְהֽוֹרַדְתֶּ֧ם
 
אֶת
my gray hairs
שֵֽׂיבָתִ֛י
with sorrow
בְּיָג֖וֹן
to the grave
שְׁאֽוֹלָה׃
