And when Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ
 
כִּי
was come
בָ֖א
that Sennacherib
סַנְחֵרִ֑יב
and that he was purposed
וּפָנָ֕יו
to fight
לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה
 
עַל
against Jerusalem
יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

He took counsel
וַיִּוָּעַ֗ץ
 
עִם
with his princes
שָׂרָיו֙
and his mighty men
וְגִבֹּרָ֔יו
to stop
לִסְתּוֹם֙
 
אֶת
the waters
מֵימֵ֣י
of the fountains
הָֽעֲיָנ֔וֹת
 
אֲשֶׁ֖ר
which were without
מִח֣וּץ
the city
לָעִ֑יר
and they did help
וַֽיַּעְזְרֽוּהוּ׃

So there was gathered
וַיִּקָּֽבְצ֣וּ
people
עַם
much
רַבִּֽים׃
who stopped
וַֽיִּסְתְּמוּ֙
 
אֶת
 
כָּל
all the fountains
הַמַּעְיָנ֔וֹת
 
וְאֶת
and the brook
הַנַּ֛חַל
that ran
הַשּׁוֹטֵ֥ף
through the midst
בְּתוֹךְ
of the land
הָאָ֖רֶץ
saying
לֵאמֹ֑ר
 
לָ֤מָּה
come
יָב֙וֹאוּ֙
Why should the kings
מַלְכֵ֣י
of Assyria
אַשּׁ֔וּר
and find
וּמָֽצְא֖וּ
water
מַ֥יִם
much
רַבִּֽים׃

Also he strengthened
וַיְחַזֵּ֥ק
himself and built up
וַיִּבֶן֩
 
אֶת
 
כָּל
all the wall
הַֽחוֹמָ֣ה
that was broken
הַפְּרוּצָ֜ה
and raised it up
וַיַּ֣עַל
 
עַל
to the towers
הַמִּגְדָּל֗וֹת
without
וְלַח֙וּצָה֙
all the wall
הַֽחוֹמָ֣ה
and another
אַחֶ֔רֶת
Also he strengthened
וַיְחַזֵּ֥ק
 
אֶת
Millo
הַמִּלּ֖וֹא
in the city
עִ֣יר
of David
דָּוִ֑יד
and made
וַיַּ֥עַשׂ
darts
שֶׁ֛לַח
in abundance
לָרֹ֖ב
and shields
וּמָֽגִנִּֽים׃

And he set
וַיִּתֵּ֛ן
captains
שָׂרֵ֥י
of war
מִלְחָמ֖וֹת
 
עַל
over the people
הָעָ֑ם
and gathered them together
וַיִּקְבְּצֵ֣ם
 
אֵלָ֗יו
 
אֶל
to him in the street
רְחוֹב֙
of the gate
שַׁ֣עַר
of the city
הָעִ֔יר
and spake
וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר
 
עַל
comfortably
לְבָבָ֖ם
to them saying
לֵאמֹֽר׃

Be strong
חִזְק֣וּ
and courageous
וְאִמְצ֔וּ
 
אַל
be not afraid
תִּֽירְא֣וּ
 
וְאַל
nor dismayed
תֵּחַ֗תּוּ
for
וּמִלִּפְנֵ֖י
the king
מֶ֣לֶךְ
of Assyria
אַשּׁ֔וּר
for
וּמִלִּפְנֵ֖י
 
כָּל
nor for all the multitude
הֶֽהָמ֣וֹן
 
אֲשֶׁר
 
עִמּ֑וֹ
 
כִּֽי
 
עִמָּ֥נוּ
that is with him for there be more
רַ֖ב
 
מֵֽעִמּֽוֹ׃

עִמּוֹ֙
With him is an arm
זְר֣וֹעַ
of flesh
בָּשָׂ֔ר
 
וְעִמָּ֜נוּ
but with us is the LORD
יְהוָ֤ה
our God
אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙
to help
לְעָזְרֵ֔נוּ
us and to fight
וּלְהִלָּחֵ֖ם
our battles
מִלְחֲמֹתֵ֑נוּ
rested
וַיִּסָּֽמְכ֣וּ
And the people
הָעָ֔ם
 
עַל
themselves upon the words
דִּבְרֵ֖י
of Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֥הוּ

but he himself laid siege against Lachish
לָכִ֔ישׁ
 
וְכָל
and all his power
מֶמְשַׁלְתּ֖וֹ
 
עִמּ֑וֹ

with him unto Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙

מֶ֣לֶךְ
and unto all Judah
יְהוּדָ֛ה

and unto all Judah

that were at Jerusalem

מֶ֣לֶךְ
of Assyria

Whereon do ye trust
בֹּֽטְחִ֔ים
that ye abide
וְיֹֽשְׁבִ֥ים
in the siege
בְּמָצ֖וֹר
in Jerusalem
בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

הֲלֹ֤א
Doth not Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙
persuade
מַסִּ֣ית
 
אֶתְכֶ֔ם
you to give
לָתֵ֣ת
 
אֶתְכֶ֔ם
over yourselves to die
לָמ֛וּת
by famine
בְּרָעָ֥ב
and by thirst
וּבְצָמָ֖א
saying
לֵאמֹ֑ר
The LORD
יְהוָ֣ה
our God
אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ
shall deliver
יַצִּילֵ֕נוּ
us out of the hand
מִכַּ֖ף
of the king
מֶ֥לֶךְ
of Assyria
אַשּֽׁוּר׃

Hath not the same Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ
taken away
הֵסִ֥יר

his high places
בָּֽמֹתָ֖יו
 
וְאֶת
altar
מִזְבֵּ֧חַ
and commanded
לֵאמֹ֔ר
Judah
לִֽיהוּדָ֤ה
and Jerusalem
וְלִירֽוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙
and commanded
לֵאמֹ֔ר
before
לִפְנֵ֨י
altar
מִזְבֵּ֧חַ
one
אֶחָ֛ד
Ye shall worship
תִּֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ
 
וְעָלָ֥יו
and burn incense
תַּקְטִֽירוּ׃

Know
תֵֽדְע֗וּ

have done

ye not what I and my fathers
וַֽאֲבוֹתַ֔י

unto all the people
עַמֵּ֣י
of other lands
אַרְצָ֖ם
 
הֲיָכ֣וֹל
able
יָֽכְל֗וּ
were the gods
אֱלֹהֵי֙
of the nations
גּוֹיֵ֣
of other lands
אַרְצָ֖ם
to deliver
לְהַצִּ֥יל
 
אֶת
of other lands
אַרְצָ֖ם
out of mine hand
מִיָּדִֽי׃

Who was there among all the gods
אֱלֹ֣הֵיכֶ֔ם
of those nations
הַגּוֹיִ֤ם
 
הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙

utterly destroyed
הֶֽחֱרִ֣ימוּ
that my fathers
אֲבוֹתַ֔י

should be able

his people

you nor persuade

you on this manner neither yet believe
תַּֽאֲמִ֣ינוּ
 
לוֹ֒
 
כִּי
Now therefore let not
לֹֽא
was able
יוּכַ֗ל
 
כָּל
him for no god
אֱל֙וֹהַ֙
 
כָּל
of any nation
גּ֣וֹי
or kingdom
וּמַמְלָכָ֔ה
deliver
יַצִּ֥ילוּ
his people
עַמּ֛וֹ
and out of the hand
מִיָּדִֽי׃
and out of the hand

of my fathers
אֲבוֹתָ֑י

how much less shall your God
אֱֽלֹהֵיכֶ֔ם
Now therefore let not

deliver

and out of the hand
מִיָּדִֽי׃

with a loud
גָּד֜וֹל
in the Jews' speech
יְהוּדִ֗ית

unto the people
עַ֤ם
of Jerusalem
יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙
 
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
 
עַל
that were on the wall
הַֽחוֹמָ֔ה
to affright
לְיָֽרְאָ֖ם
them and to trouble
וּֽלְבַהֲלָ֑ם
 
לְמַ֖עַן
them that they might take
יִלְכְּד֥וּ
 
אֶת
the city
הָעִֽיר׃

And they spake
וַֽיְדַבְּר֔וּ
 
אֶל
as against the gods
אֱלֹהֵי֙
of Jerusalem
יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם
against
כְּעַ֗ל
as against the gods
אֱלֹהֵי֙
of the people
עַמֵּ֣י
of the earth
הָאָ֔רֶץ
which were the work
מַֽעֲשֵׂ֖ה
of the hands
יְדֵ֥י
of man
הָֽאָדָֽם׃

וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֞ל
And for this cause Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֣הוּ
the king
הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ
Isaiah
וִֽישַׁעְיָ֧הוּ
the son
בֶן
of Amoz
אָמ֛וֹץ
and the prophet
הַנָּבִ֖יא
 
עַל
 
זֹ֑את
and cried
וַֽיִּזְעֲק֖וּ
to heaven
הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח
And the LORD
יְהוָה֙
an angel
מַלְאָ֔ךְ
which cut off
וַיַּכְחֵ֞ד
 
כָּל
all the mighty men
גִּבּ֥וֹר
of valour
חַ֙יִל֙
and the leaders
וְנָגִ֣יד
and captains
וְשָׂ֔ר
in the camp
בְּמַֽחֲנֵ֖ה
of the king
מֶ֣לֶךְ
of Assyria
אַשּׁ֑וּר
So he returned
וַיָּשָׁב֩
with shame
בְּבֹ֨שֶׁת
of face
פָּנִ֜ים
to his own land
לְאַרְצ֗וֹ
And when he was come
וַיָּבֹא֙
into the house
בֵּ֣ית
of his god
אֱלֹהָ֔יו
they that came forth
וּמִֽיצִיאֵ֣ו
of his own bowels
מֵעָ֔יו
 
שָׁ֖ם
slew
הִפִּילֻ֥הוּ
him there with the sword
בֶחָֽרֶב׃

וַיּוֹשַׁע֩
Thus the LORD
יְהוָ֨ה
 
אֶת
Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֜הוּ
 
וְאֵ֣ת׀
and the inhabitants
יֹֽשְׁבֵ֣י
of Jerusalem
יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֗ם
and from the hand
וּמִיַּד
of Sennacherib
סַנְחֵרִ֥יב
the king
מֶֽלֶךְ
of Assyria
אַשּׁ֖וּר
and from the hand
וּמִיַּד
 
כֹּ֑ל
of all other and guided
וַֽיְנַהֲלֵ֖ם
them on every side
מִסָּבִֽיב׃

And many
וְ֠רַבִּים
brought
מְבִיאִ֨ים
gifts
מִנְחָ֤ה
unto the LORD
לַֽיהוָה֙
to Jerusalem
לִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם
and presents
וּמִ֨גְדָּנ֔וֹת
to Hezekiah
לִֽיחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ
king
מֶ֣לֶךְ
of Judah
יְהוּדָ֑ה
so that he was magnified
וַיִּנַּשֵּׂ֛א
in the sight
לְעֵינֵ֥י
 
כָל
of all nations
הַגּוֹיִ֖ם
from thenceforth
מֵאַֽחֲרֵי
 
כֵֽן׃

In those days
בַּיָּמִ֣ים
 
הָהֵ֔ם
was sick
חָלָ֥ה
Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ
 
עַד
to the death
לָמ֑וּת
and prayed
וַיִּתְפַּלֵּל֙
 
אֶל
unto the LORD
יְהוָ֔ה
and he spake
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר
 
ל֔וֹ
him a sign
וּמוֹפֵ֖ת
unto him and he gave
נָ֥תַן
 
לֽוֹ׃

וְלֹֽא
according to the benefit
כִגְמֻ֤ל
 
עָלָיו֙
rendered not again
הֵשִׁ֣יב
But Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ
 
כִּ֥י
was lifted up
גָבַ֖הּ
done unto him for his heart
לִבּ֑וֹ
 
וַיְהִ֤י
 
עָלָיו֙
therefore there was wrath
קֶ֔צֶף
 
וְעַל
upon him and upon Judah
יְהוּדָ֖ה
and Jerusalem
וִירֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

וַיִּכָּנַ֤ע
Notwithstanding Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙
himself for the pride
בְּגֹ֣בַהּ
of his heart
לִבּ֔וֹ

both he and the inhabitants
וְיוֹשְׁבֵ֣י
of Jerusalem
יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם
 
וְלֹא
came
בָ֤א
 
עֲלֵיהֶם֙
so that the wrath
קֶ֣צֶף
of the LORD
יְהוָ֔ה
not upon them in the days
בִּימֵ֖י
 
יְחִזְקִיָּֽהוּ׃

וַיְהִ֧י
And Hezekiah
לִֽיחִזְקִיָּ֛הוּ
riches
עֹ֥שֶׁר
and honour
וְכָב֖וֹד
much
הַרְבֵּ֣ה
had exceeding
מְאֹ֑ד
himself treasuries
וְאֹֽצָר֣וֹת
and he made
עָֽשָׂה
 
ל֠וֹ
for silver
לְכֶ֨סֶף
and for gold
וּלְזָהָ֜ב
stones
וּלְאֶ֣בֶן
and for precious
יְקָרָ֗ה
and for spices
וְלִבְשָׂמִים֙
and for shields
וּלְמָ֣גִנִּ֔ים
 
וּלְכֹ֖ל
jewels
כְּלֵ֥י
and for all manner of pleasant
חֶמְדָּֽה׃

Storehouses
וּמִ֨סְכְּנ֔וֹת
also for the increase
לִתְבוּאַ֥ת
of corn
דָּגָ֖ן
and wine
וְתִיר֣וֹשׁ
and oil
וְיִצְהָ֑ר
and stalls
וְאֻֽרָוֹת֙
 
לְכָל
for all manner of beasts
וּבְהֵמָ֔ה
for all manner of beasts
וּבְהֵמָ֔ה
for flocks
וַֽעֲדָרִ֖ים
and cotes
לָאֲוֵרֹֽת׃

him cities
וְעָרִים֙
Moreover he provided
עָ֣שָׂה
 
ל֔וֹ
and possessions
וּמִקְנֵה
of flocks
צֹ֥אן
and herds
וּבָקָ֖ר
in abundance
לָרֹ֑ב
 
כִּ֤י
had given
נָֽתַן
 
לוֹ֙
for God
אֱלֹהִ֔ים
him substance
רְכ֖וּשׁ

And Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ
also stopped
סָתַם֙
 
אֶת
watercourse
מוֹצָ֞א

of Gihon
גִיחוֹן֙
the upper
הָֽעֶלְי֔וֹן
and brought it straight
וַֽיַּישְּׁרֵ֥ם
down
לְמַֽטָּה
to the west side
מַּעְרָ֖בָה
of the city
לְעִ֣יר
of David
דָּוִ֑יד
prospered
וַיַּצְלַ֥ח
And Hezekiah
יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ
 
בְּכָֽל
in all his works
מַעֲשֵֽׂהוּ׃

Howbeit
וְכֵ֞ן
in the business of the ambassadors
בִּמְלִיצֵ֣י׀
of the princes
שָׂרֵ֣י
of Babylon
בָּבֶ֗ל
who sent
הַֽמְשַׁלְּחִ֤ים
 
עָלָיו֙
unto him to enquire
לִדְרֹ֗שׁ
of the wonder
הַמּוֹפֵת֙
 
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
 
הָיָ֣ה
that was done in the land
בָאָ֔רֶץ
left
עֲזָב֖וֹ
God
הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים
him to try
לְנַ֨סּוֹת֔וֹ
him that he might know
לָדַ֖עַת
 
כָּל
all that was in his heart
בִּלְבָבֽוֹ׃

Now the rest

of the acts

and his goodness
וַֽחֲסָדָ֑יו
 
הִנָּ֣ם
behold they are written
כְּתוּבִ֗ים
in the vision
בַּֽחֲז֞וֹן
of Isaiah
יְשַֽׁעְיָ֤הוּ
the son
בֶן
of Amoz
אָמוֹץ֙
the prophet
הַנָּבִ֔יא
 
עַל
and in the book

of the kings

and Israel

And Hezekiah

with his fathers
אֲבֹתָ֗יו
and they buried
וַֽיִּקְבְּרֻהוּ֮
him in the chiefest
בְּֽמַעֲלֵה֮
of the sepulchres
קִבְרֵ֣י
his son
בְנ֖וֹ
of David
דָוִיד֒
honour
וְכָבוֹד֙
did him
עָֽשׂוּ
 
ל֣וֹ
at his death
בְמוֹת֔וֹ
 
כָּל
and all Judah
יְהוּדָ֖ה
and the inhabitants
וְיֹֽשְׁבֵ֣י
of Jerusalem
יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם
reigned
וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ
And Manasseh
מְנַשֶּׁ֥ה
his son
בְנ֖וֹ
 
תַּחְתָּֽיו׃
