וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ

אָֽרְצָה׃

And said

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

 

אֲדֹנָ֗י

 

אִם

 

נָ֨א

if now I have found

מָצָ֤אתִי

favour

חֵן֙

in thy sight

בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ

 

אַל

 

נָ֥א

pass not away

תַֽעֲבֹ֖ר

 

מֵעַ֥ל

I pray thee from thy servant

עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃

be fetched

יֻקַּֽח

I pray you

נָ֣א

Let a little

מְעַט

water

מַ֔יִם

and wash

וְרַֽחֲצ֖וּ

your feet

רַגְלֵיכֶ֑ם

and rest yourselves

וְהִֽשָּׁעֲנ֖וּ

הָעֵֽץ׃

And I will fetch

וְאֶקְחָ֨ה

a morsel

of bread

לֶ֜חֶם

and comfort ye

וְסַֽעֲד֤וּ

your hearts

לִבְּכֶם֙

for therefore are ye come

עֲבַרְתֶּ֖ם

And Abraham

unto Sarah

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

וַיִּתֵּ֖ן

and he stood

by them under the tree

and they did eat

וַיֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃

And he said

Behold in the tent

I will certainly

אָשׁ֤וּב

Now Abraham

וְאַבְרָהָ֤ם

and Sarah

לְשָׂרָ֔ה

were old

זְקֵנִ֔ים

and well stricken

בָּאִ֖ים

in age

בַּיָּמִ֑ים

and it ceased

חָדַל֙

 

לִֽהְי֣וֹת

and Sarah

לְשָׂרָ֔ה

after the manner

אֹ֖רַח

of women

כַּנָּשִֽׁים׃

laughed

וַתִּצְחַ֥ק

Therefore Sarah

שָׂרָ֖ה

within herself

בְּקִרְבָּ֣הּ

saying

לֵאמֹ֑ר

After

אַֽחֲרֵ֤י

I am waxed old

בְלֹתִי֙

 

הָֽיְתָה

 

לִּ֣י

shall I have pleasure

עֶדְנָ֔ה

my lord

וַֽאדֹנִ֖י

being old also

זָקֵֽן׃

said

לֵאמֹ֗ר

And the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

 

אֶל

unto Abraham

אַבְרָהָ֑ם

Wherefore

לָ֣מָּה

 

זֶּה֩

laugh

צָֽחֲקָ֨ה

did Sarah

שָׂרָ֜ה

said

לֵאמֹ֗ר

 

הַאַ֥ף

Shall I of a surety

אֻמְנָ֛ם

bear

אֵלֵ֖ד

a child which

וַֽאֲנִ֥י

am old

זָקַֽנְתִּי׃

Is

הֲיִפָּלֵ֥א

for the LORD

מֵֽיְהוָ֖ה

any thing

דָּבָ֑ר

At the time appointed

לַמּוֹעֵ֞ד

I will return

אָשׁ֥וּב

 

אֵלֶ֛יךָ

unto thee according to the time

כָּעֵ֥ת

and Sarah

וּלְשָׂרָ֥ה

shall have a son

בֵֽן׃

וַתְּכַחֵ֨שׁ

Then Sarah

שָׂרָ֧ה׀

And he said

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר׀

Nay

לֹ֖א

I laughed

צָחָֽקְתְּ׃

 

כִּ֣י׀

not for she was afraid

יָרֵ֑אָה

And he said

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר׀

צָחָֽקְתְּ׃

rose up

וַיָּקֻ֤מוּ

 

מִשָּׁם֙

And the men

הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים

from thence and looked

וַיַּשְׁקִ֖פוּ

Sodom

סְדֹ֑ם

and Abraham

וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם

went

הֹלֵ֥ךְ

 

עִמָּ֖ם

with them to bring them on the way

לְשַׁלְּחָֽם׃

And the LORD

וַֽיהוָֹ֖ה

said

אָמָ֑ר

Shall I hide

הַֽמְכַסֶּ֤ה

 

אֲנִי֙

from Abraham

מֵֽאַבְרָהָ֔ם

that thing which

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

 

אֲנִ֥י

I do

עֹשֶֽׂה׃

Seeing that Abraham

וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם

 

הָי֧וֹ

 

יִֽהְיֶ֛ה

and all the nations

גּוֹיֵ֥י

shall surely become a great

גָּד֖וֹל

and mighty

וְעָצ֑וּם

shall be blessed

וְנִ֨בְרְכוּ

 

ב֔וֹ

 

כֹּ֖ל

and all the nations

גּוֹיֵ֥י

of the earth

הָאָֽרֶץ׃

 

כִּ֣י

For I know

יְדַעְתִּ֗יו

 

לְמַעַן֩

him that

אֲשֶׁר

he will command

יְצַוֶּ֜ה

 

אֶת

his children

בָּנָ֤יו

 

וְאֶת

and his household

בֵּיתוֹ֙

after him

אַֽחֲרָ֔יו

and they shall keep

וְשָֽׁמְרוּ֙

the way

דֶּ֣רֶךְ

of the LORD

יְהוָה֙

to do

לַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת

justice

צְדָקָ֖ה

and judgment

וּמִשְׁפָּ֑ט

 

לְמַ֗עַן

may bring

הָבִ֤יא

of the LORD

עַל

upon Abraham

אַבְרָהָ֔ם

 

אֵ֥ת

him that

אֲשֶׁר

that which he hath spoken

דִּבֶּ֖ר

 

עָלָֽיו׃

said

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

Because the cry

זַֽעֲקַ֛ת

of Sodom

סְדֹ֥ם

and Gomorrah

וַֽעֲמֹרָ֖ה

 

כִּי

is great

רָ֑בָּה

and because their sin

וְחַ֨טָּאתָ֔ם

 

כִּ֥י

grievous

כָֽבְדָ֖ה

is very

מְאֹֽד׃

I will go down

אֵֽרֲדָה

 

נָּ֣א

now and see

וְאֶרְאֶ֔ה

according to the cry

הַכְּצַֽעֲקָתָ֛הּ

of it which is come

הַבָּ֥אָה

 

אֵלַ֖י

whether they have done

עָשׂ֣וּ׀

altogether

כָּלָ֑ה

 

וְאִם

 

לֹ֖א

unto me and if not I will know

אֵדָֽעָה׃

turned their faces

וַיִּפְנ֤וּ

 

מִשָּׁם֙

 

הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים

 

וַיֵּֽלְכ֖וּ

toward Sodom

סְדֹ֑מָה

but Abraham

וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם

yet

עוֹדֶ֥נּוּ

stood

עֹמֵ֖ד

before

לִפְנֵ֥י

the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

drew near

וַיִּגַּ֥שׁ

And Abraham

אַבְרָהָ֖ם

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

 

הַאַ֣ף

Wilt thou also destroy

תִּסְפֶּ֔ה

the righteous

צַדִּ֖יק

with

עִם

the wicked

רָשָֽׁע׃

 

אוּלַ֥י

Peradventure there be

יֵ֛שׁ

fifty

חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים

righteous

הַצַּדִּיקִ֖ם

within

בְּת֣וֹךְ

the city

הָעִ֑יר

 

הַאַ֤ף

wilt thou also destroy

תִּסְפֶּה֙

 

וְלֹֽא

and not spare

תִשָּׂ֣א

the place

לַמָּק֔וֹם

for

לְמַ֛עַן

fifty

חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים

righteous

הַצַּדִּיקִ֖ם

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

that are therein

בְּקִרְבָּֽהּ׃

That be far

חָלִ֣לָה

 

לְּךָ֜

do

יַֽעֲשֶׂ֖ה

after this manner

כַּדָּבָ֣ר

 

הַזֶּ֗ה

to slay

לְהָמִ֤ית

and that the righteous

כַצַּדִּ֖יק

 

עִם

should be as the wicked

כָּֽרָשָׁ֑ע

 

וְהָיָ֥ה

and that the righteous

כַצַּדִּ֖יק

should be as the wicked

כָּֽרָשָׁ֑ע

That be far

חָלִ֣לָה

 

לָּ֔ךְ

from thee Shall not the Judge

הֲשֹׁפֵט֙

 

כָּל

of all the earth

הָאָ֔רֶץ

 

לֹ֥א

do

יַֽעֲשֶׂ֖ה

right

מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

said

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

 

אִם

If I find

אֶמְצָ֥א

in Sodom

בִסְדֹ֛ם

fifty

חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים

righteous

צַדִּיקִ֖ם

within

בְּת֣וֹךְ

the city

הָעִ֑יר

then I will spare

וְנָשָׂ֥אתִי

 

לְכָל

all the place

הַמָּק֖וֹם

 

בַּֽעֲבוּרָֽם׃

answered

וַיַּ֥עַן

And Abraham

אַבְרָהָ֖ם

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

 

הִנֵּה

 

נָ֤א

Behold now I have taken upon me

הוֹאַ֙לְתִּי֙

to speak

לְדַבֵּ֣ר

 

אֶל

unto the Lord

אֲדֹנָ֔י

which

וְאָֽנֹכִ֖י

am but dust

עָפָ֥ר

and ashes

וָאֵֽפֶר׃

 

א֠וּלַי

Peradventure there shall lack

יַחְסְר֞וּן

of the fifty

חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים

righteous

הַצַּדִּיקִם֙

and five

וַֽחֲמִשָּֽׁה׃

I will not destroy

אַשְׁחִ֔ית

and five

וַֽחֲמִשָּֽׁה׃

 

אֶת

 

כָּל

all the city

הָעִ֑יר

And he said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

לֹ֣א

I will not destroy

אַשְׁחִ֔ית

 

אִם

If I find

אֶמְצָ֣א

 

שָׁ֔ם

there forty

אַרְבָּעִ֖ים

and five

וַֽחֲמִשָּֽׁה׃

unto him yet again

וַיֹּ֨סֶף

 

ע֜וֹד

And he spake

לְדַבֵּ֤ר

 

אֵלָיו֙

and said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

אוּלַ֛י

found

יִמָּֽצְא֥וּן

 

שָׁ֖ם

Peradventure there shall be forty

הָֽאַרְבָּעִֽים׃

and said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

לֹ֣א

I will not do

אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֔ה

 

בַּֽעֲב֖וּר

Peradventure there shall be forty

הָֽאַרְבָּעִֽים׃

And he said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

אַל

unto him Oh

נָ֞א

be angry

יִ֤חַר

let not the Lord

לַֽאדֹנָי֙

and I will speak

וַֽאֲדַבֵּ֔רָה

 

אוּלַ֛י

be found

אֶמְצָ֥א

 

שָׁ֖ם

Peradventure there shall thirty

שְׁלֹשִֽׁים׃

And he said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

לֹ֣א

I will not do

אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֔ה

 

אִם

be found

אֶמְצָ֥א

 

שָׁ֖ם

Peradventure there shall thirty

שְׁלֹשִֽׁים׃

And he said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

הִנֵּֽה

 

נָ֤א

Behold now I have taken upon me

הוֹאַ֙לְתִּי֙

to speak

לְדַבֵּ֣ר

 

אֶל

unto the Lord

הָֽעֶשְׂרִֽים׃

And he said

לֹ֣א

I will not destroy

And he said

Oh let not the Lord

לַֽאדֹנָי֙

and I will speak

וַֽאֲדַבְּרָ֣ה

but this once

הַפַּ֔עַם

shall be found

יִמָּֽצְא֥וּן

 

שָׁ֖ם

Peradventure ten

הָֽעֲשָׂרָֽה׃

And he said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

 

לֹ֣א

I will not destroy

אַשְׁחִ֔ית

 

בַּֽעֲב֖וּר

וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ

And the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

as soon as

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר

he had left

כִּלָּ֔ה

communing

לְדַבֵּ֖ר

 

אֶל

and Abraham

וְאַבְרָהָ֖ם

and Abraham

וְאַבְרָהָ֖ם

returned

שָׁ֥ב

unto his place

לִמְקֹמֽוֹ׃
