And he said

וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ

 

הִנֶּ֣ה

 

נָּא

Behold now my lords

אֲדֹנַ֗י

turn in

ס֣וּרוּ

 

נָ֠א

 

אֶל

house

בֵּ֨ית

I pray you into your servant's

עַבְדְּכֶ֤ם

Nay but we will abide

נָלִֽין׃

and wash

וְרַֽחֲצ֣וּ

your feet

רַגְלֵיכֶ֔ם

and ye shall rise up early

וְהִשְׁכַּמְתֶּ֖ם

and go

וַֽהֲלַכְתֶּ֣ם

on your ways

לְדַרְכְּכֶ֑ם

And he said

וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ

 

לֹּ֔א

 

כִּ֥י

in the street

בָֽרְח֖וֹב

Nay but we will abide

נָלִֽין׃

And he pressed

וַיִּפְצַר

 

בָּ֣ם

upon them greatly

מְאֹ֔ד

and they turned in

וַיָּסֻ֣רוּ

 

אֵלָ֔יו

unto him and entered

וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ

 

אֶל

into his house

בֵּית֑וֹ

and he made

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ

 

לָהֶם֙

them a feast

מִשְׁתֶּ֔ה

unleavened bread

וּמַצּ֥וֹת

and did bake

אָפָ֖ה

and they did eat

וַיֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃

 

טֶרֶם֮

But before they lay down

יִשְׁכָּבוּ֒

even the men

אַנְשֵׁ֤י

of the city

הָעִ֜יר

even the men

אַנְשֵׁ֤י

of Sodom

סְדֹם֙

compassed

נָסַ֣בּוּ

 

עַל

the house

הַבַּ֔יִת

and young

מִנַּ֖עַר

 

וְעַד

both old

זָקֵ֑ן

 

כָּל

all the people

הָעָ֖ם

from every quarter

מִקָּצֶֽה׃

And they called

וַיִּקְרְא֤וּ

 

אֶל

unto Lot

לוֹט֙

and said

וַיֹּ֣אמְרוּ

 

ל֔וֹ

 

אַיֵּ֧ה

 

הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֛ים

 

אֲשֶׁר

which came in

בָּ֥אוּ

 

אֵלֶ֖יךָ

to thee this night

הַלָּ֑יְלָה

bring them out

הֽוֹצִיאֵ֣ם

 

אֵלֵ֔ינוּ

unto us that we may know

וְנֵֽדְעָ֖ה

 

אֹתָֽם׃

went out

וַיֵּצֵ֧א

 

אֲלֵהֶ֛ם

And Lot

ל֖וֹט

at the door

הַפֶּ֑תְחָה

the door

וְהַדֶּ֖לֶת

unto them and shut

סָגַ֥ר

after him

אַֽחֲרָֽיו׃

And said

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

 

אַל

 

נָ֥א

I pray you brethren

אַחַ֖י

do not so wickedly

תָּרֵֽעוּ׃

 

הִנֵּה

 

נָ֨א

 

לִ֜י

Behold now I have two

שְׁתֵּ֣י

daughters

בָנ֗וֹת

 

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

 

לֹֽא

which have not known

יָדְעוּ֙

man

לָֽאֲנָשִׁ֤ים

let me I pray you bring them out

אוֹצִֽיאָה

 

נָּ֤א

 

אֶתְהֶן֙

 

אֲלֵיכֶ֔ם

do

תַּֽעֲשׂ֣וּ

 

לָהֶ֔ן

ye to them as is good

כַּטּ֖וֹב

in your eyes

בְּעֵֽינֵיכֶ֑ם

 

רַ֠ק

לָֽאֲנָשִׁ֤ים

only unto these

הָאֵל֙

nothing

אַל

do

תַּֽעֲשׂ֣וּ

for therefore came

they under the shadow

and pulled

to them and shut

סָגָֽרוּ׃

that were at the door

And they smote

הִכּוּ֙

with blindness

בַּסַּנְוֵרִ֔ים

both small

מִקָּטֹ֖ן

 

וְעַד

and great

גָּד֑וֹל

so that they wearied

וַיִּלְא֖וּ

themselves to find

לִמְצֹ֥א

that were at the door

הַפָּֽתַח׃

said

וַיֹּֽאמְר֨וּ

 

הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֜ים

unto Lot

ל֗וֹט

לְךָ֣

Hast thou here

פֹ֔ה

besides son in law

חָתָן֙

and thy sons

וּבָנֶ֣יךָ

and thy daughters

וּבְנֹתֶ֔יךָ

 

וְכֹ֥ל

and whatsoever

אֲשֶׁר

 

לְךָ֖

thou hast in the city

בָּעִ֑יר

bring them out

הוֹצֵ֖א

 

מִן

of this place

הַמָּקֽוֹם׃

 

כִּֽי

us to destroy

לְשַֽׁחֲתָֽהּ׃

For we

אֲנַ֔חְנוּ

 

אֶת

this place

הַמָּק֖וֹם

 

הַזֶּ֑ה

 

כִּֽי

is waxen great

גָדְלָ֤ה

because the cry of them

צַֽעֲקָתָם֙

the face

פְּנֵ֣י

and the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

hath sent

וַיְשַׁלְּחֵ֥נוּ

and the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

us to destroy

לְשַֽׁחֲתָֽהּ׃

get you out

צְּאוּ֙

And Lot

ל֜וֹט

and spake

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר׀

 

אֶל

his sons in law

חֲתָנָֽיו׃

which married

לֹֽקְחֵ֣י

his daughters

בְנֹתָ֗יו

and said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

Up

ק֤וּמוּ

get you out

צְּאוּ֙

 

מִן

of this place

הַמָּק֣וֹם

 

הַזֶּ֔ה

 

כִּֽי

will destroy

מַשְׁחִ֥ית

for the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

 

אֶת

this city

הָעִ֑יר

 

וַיְהִ֥י

But he seemed as one that mocked

כִמְצַחֵ֖ק

unto

בְּעֵינֵ֥י

his sons in law

חֲתָנָֽיו׃

And when

וּכְמוֹ֙

the morning

הַשַּׁ֣חַר

arose

עָלָ֔ה

hastened

וַיָּאִ֥יצוּ

then the angels

הַמַּלְאָכִ֖ים

Lot

בְּל֣וֹט

saying

לֵאמֹ֑ר

Arise

קוּם֩

take

קַ֨ח

 

אֶֽת

thy wife

אִשְׁתְּךָ֜

 

וְאֶת

and thy two

שְׁתֵּ֤י

daughters

בְנֹתֶ֙יךָ֙

which are here

הַנִּמְצָאֹ֔ת

 

פֶּן

lest thou be consumed

תִּסָּפֶ֖ה

in the iniquity

בַּעֲוֹ֥ן

of the city

הָעִֽיר׃

And while he lingered

וַֽיִּתְמַהְמָ֓הּ׀

laid hold

וַיַּֽחֲזִ֨יקוּ

 

הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֜ים

and upon the hand

וּבְיַד֙

and upon the hand

of his wife

אִשְׁתּ֗וֹ

and upon the hand

שְׁתֵּ֣י

בְנֹתָ֔יו

being merciful

בְּחֶמְלַ֥ת

the LORD

unto him and they brought him forth

וַיֹּֽצִאֻ֥הוּ

and set him

וַיַּנִּחֻ֖הוּ

מִח֥וּץ

the city

לָעִֽיר׃

 

וַיְהִי֩

And it came to pass when they had brought them forth

כְהֽוֹצִיאָ֨ם

 

אֹתָ֜ם

abroad

הַח֗וּצָה

that he said

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

Escape

הִמָּלֵ֖ט

for

עַל

thy life

נַפְשֶׁ֔ךָ

 

אַל

look

תַּבִּ֣יט

not behind thee

אַֽחֲרֶ֔יךָ

 

וְאַֽל

neither stay

תַּעֲמֹ֖ד

 

בְּכָל

thou in all the plain

הַכִּכָּ֑ר

to the mountain

הָהָ֥רָה

Escape

הִמָּלֵ֖ט

lest thou be consumed

Behold now thy servant

עַבְדְּךָ֣

grace

חֵן֮

in thy sight

בְּעֵינֶיךָ֒

and thou hast magnified

וַתַּגְדֵּ֣ל

thy mercy

חַסְדְּךָ֗

 

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

which thou hast shewed

עָשִׂ֙יתָ֙

unto me

עִמָּדִ֔י

in saving

לְהַֽחֲי֖וֹת

 

אֶת

my life

נַפְשִׁ֑י

 

וְאָֽנֹכִ֗י

 

לֹ֤א

and I cannot

אוּכַל֙

escape

לְהִמָּלֵ֣ט

to the mountain

הָהָ֔רָה

תִּדְבָּקַ֥נִי

lest some evil

הָֽרָעָ֖ה

me and I die

וָמַֽתִּי׃

 

הִנֵּה

 

נָ֠א

Behold now this city

הָעִ֨יר

 

הַזֹּ֧את

is near

קְרֹבָ֛ה

to flee

לָנ֥וּס

 

שָׁ֖מָּה

unto and it

הִ֖וא

is a little one

מִצְעָ֛ר

Oh let me escape

אִמָּֽלְטָ֨ה

 

נָּ֜א

 

שָׁ֗מָּה

 

הֲלֹ֥א

is a little one

shall live

וּתְחִ֥י

and my soul

נַפְשִֽׁי׃

And he said

אֵלָ֔יו

unto him See

הִנֵּה֙

I have accepted

נָשָׂ֣אתִי

thee

פָנֶ֔יךָ

concerning this thing

לַדָּבָ֣ר

also that I will not overthrow

Then the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

upon Sodom

and upon Gomorrah

עֲמֹרָ֖ה

brimstone

גָּפְרִ֣ית

and fire

וָאֵ֑שׁ

 

מֵאֵ֥ת

Then the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

 

מִן

out of heaven

הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

And he overthrew

וַֽיַּהֲפֹךְ֙

 

אֶת

cities

הֶֽעָרִ֔ים

those

הָאֵ֔ל

 

וְאֵ֖ת

 

כָּל

and all the plain

הַכִּכָּ֑ר

 

וְאֵת֙

 

כָּל

and all the inhabitants

יֹֽשְׁבֵ֣י

cities

הֶֽעָרִ֔ים

and that which grew

וְצֶ֖מַח

upon the ground

הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

looked back

וַתַּבֵּ֥ט

But his wife

אִשְׁתּ֖וֹ

from behind him

מֵאַֽחֲרָ֑יו

 

וַתְּהִ֖י

and she became a pillar

and there is not a man
