As soon as the morning
הַבֹּ֖קֶר
was light
א֑וֹר
the men
וְהָֽאֲנָשִׁ֣ים
were sent away
שֻׁלְּח֔וּ
 
הֵ֖מָּה
they and their asses
וַחֲמֹֽרֵיהֶֽם׃

And when they were gone out
יָֽצְא֣וּ

of the city
הָעִיר֮
 
לֹ֣א
and not yet far off
הִרְחִיקוּ֒
Joseph
וְיוֹסֵ֤ף

וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֣
 
לַֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר

unto his steward
בֵּית֔וֹ

אַֽחֲרֵ֣י
 
הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֑ים
and when thou dost overtake
וְהִשַּׂגְתָּם֙

וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֣

לָ֛מָּה
unto them Wherefore have ye rewarded
שִׁלַּמְתֶּ֥ם
evil
רָעָ֖ה

for good

ye have done evil
הֲרֵֽעֹתֶ֖ם

in so doing

And he overtook
וַֽיַּשִּׂגֵ֑ם
them and he spake
וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר
 
אֲלֵהֶ֔ם

unto them these same

And they said

unto him Wherefore saith

my lord
אֲדֹנִ֔י
according to this thing
כַּדָּבָ֥ר
 
הָאֵ֑לֶּה
God forbid
חָלִ֙ילָה֙
that thy servants
לַֽעֲבָדֶ֔יךָ
should do
מֵֽעֲשׂ֖וֹת
according to this thing
כַּדָּבָ֥ר
 
הַזֶּֽה׃

Behold the money

which we found
מָצָ֙אנוּ֙
mouths
בְּפִ֣י
in our sacks
אַמְתְּחֹתֵ֔ינוּ
we brought again
הֱשִׁיבֹ֥נוּ
 
אֵלֶ֖יךָ
unto thee out of the land
מֵאֶ֣רֶץ
of Canaan
כְּנָ֑עַן
 
וְאֵ֗יךְ
how then should we steal
נִגְנֹב֙
house
מִבֵּ֣ית
out of thy lord's
אֲדֹנֶ֔יךָ
Behold the money
כֶּ֖סֶף

or gold

אֲשֶׁ֨ר
it be found
יִמָּצֵ֥א
 
אִתּ֛וֹ
With whomsoever of thy servants
לַֽעֲבָדִֽים׃
both let him die
וָמֵ֑ת
 
וְגַם
 
אֲנַ֕חְנוּ
 
נִֽהְיֶ֥ה
and we also will be my lord's
לַֽאדֹנִ֖י
With whomsoever of thy servants

And he said
וַיֹּ֕אמֶר

עַתָּ֥ה
Now also let it be according unto your words
כְדִבְרֵיכֶ֖ם
 
כֶּן
 
ה֑וּא
 
אֲשֶׁ֨ר
he with whom it is found
יִמָּצֵ֤א
 
אִתּוֹ֙
 
יִֽהְיֶה
 
לִּ֣י
shall be my servant
עָ֔בֶד
 
וְאַתֶּ֖ם
 
תִּֽהְי֥וּ
and ye shall be blameless
נְקִיִּֽם׃

Then they speedily
וַֽיְמַהֲר֗וּ
took down
וַיּוֹרִ֛דוּ
every man
אִ֥ישׁ
 
אֶת
his sack
אַמְתַּחְתּֽוֹ׃
to the ground
אָ֑רְצָה
and opened
וַֽיִּפְתְּח֖וּ
every man
אִ֥ישׁ
his sack
אַמְתַּחְתּֽוֹ׃

And he searched
וַיְחַפֵּ֕שׂ
at the eldest
בַּגָּד֣וֹל
and began
הֵחֵ֔ל
at the youngest
וּבַקָּטֹ֖ן
and left
כִּלָּ֑ה
was found
וַיִּמָּצֵא֙
and the cup
הַגָּבִ֔יעַ
sack
בְּאַמְתַּ֖חַת
in Benjamin's
בִּנְיָמִֽן׃

Then they rent
וַֽיִּקְרְע֖וּ
their clothes
שִׂמְלֹתָ֑ם
and laded
וַֽיַּעֲמֹס֙
every man
אִ֣ישׁ
 
עַל
his ass
חֲמֹר֔וֹ
and returned
וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ
to the city
הָעִֽירָה׃

וַיָּבֹ֨א
And Judah
יְהוּדָ֤ה
and his brethren
וְאֶחָיו֙
house
בֵּ֣יתָה
to Joseph's
יוֹסֵ֔ף
 
וְה֖וּא
 
עוֹדֶ֣נּוּ
 
שָׁ֑ם
for he was yet there and they fell
וַיִּפְּל֥וּ
before him
לְפָנָ֖יו
on the ground
אָֽרְצָה׃

לָהֶם֙
And Joseph

And he said

God forbid
חָלִ֣ילָה
 
לִּ֔י
that I should do
מֵֽעֲשׂ֖וֹת
so

but the man
הָאִ֡ישׁ
 
אֲשֶׁר֩
is found
נִמְצָ֨א
the cup
הַגָּבִ֜יעַ
in whose hand
בְּיָד֗וֹ

יִֽהְיֶה
 
לִּ֣י
he shall be my servant
עָ֔בֶד
 
וְאַתֶּ֕ם
and as for you get you up
עֲל֥וּ
in peace
לְשָׁל֖וֹם
 
אֶל
unto your father
אֲבִיכֶֽם׃

Then Judah

unto him and said

I pray thee speak
יְדַבֶּר

against thy servant
בְּעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ

בְּאָזְנֵ֣י
in my lord's
אֲדֹנִ֔י
 
וְאַל
burn
יִ֥חַר
and let not thine anger
אַפְּךָ֖
against thy servant
בְּעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ
 
כִּ֥י
 
כָמ֖וֹךָ
for thou art even as Pharaoh
כְּפַרְעֹֽה׃

unto my lord

a father

an old man
זָקֵ֔ן
and a child
וְיֶ֥לֶד
of his old age
זְקֻנִ֖ים
a little one
קָטָ֑ן
and his brother
וְאָחִ֨יו
is dead
מֵ֜ת
and he alone is left
וַיִּוָּתֵ֨ר
 
ה֧וּא
 
לְבַדּ֛וֹ
of his mother
לְאִמּ֖וֹ
a father
וְאָבִ֥יו
loveth
אֲהֵבֽוֹ׃

And thou saidst
וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙
 
אֶל
unto thy servants
עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ
Bring him down
הֽוֹרִדֻ֖הוּ
 
אֵלָ֑י
unto me that I may set
וְאָשִׂ֥ימָה
mine eyes
עֵינִ֖י
 
עָלָֽיו׃

And we said
וַנֹּ֙אמֶר֙
 
אֶל
unto my lord
אֲדֹנִ֔י
 
לֹֽא
cannot
יוּכַ֥ל
The lad
הַנַּ֖עַר
for if he should leave
וְעָזַ֥ב
 
אֶת
his father
אָבִ֖יו
for if he should leave
וְעָזַ֥ב
 
אֶת
his father
אָבִ֖יו
his father would die
וָמֵֽת׃

And thou saidst

your youngest

And it came to pass when we came up

unto thy servant

we told
וַנַּ֨גֶּד

him the words
דִּבְרֵ֥י
of my lord
אֲדֹנִֽי׃

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר
And our father

Go again
שֻׁ֖בוּ
and buy
שִׁבְרוּ
 
לָ֥נוּ
us a little
מְעַט
food
אֹֽכֶל׃

And we said
וַנֹּ֕אמֶר
 
לֹ֥א
We cannot
נוּכַ֗ל
go down
וְיָרַ֔דְנוּ
 
אִם
be
יֵשׁ֩
brother
וְאָחִ֥ינוּ
if our youngest
הַקָּטֹ֖ן
 
אִתָּ֙נוּ֙

And the one

from me and I said

and I saw him

And if ye take
וּלְקַחְתֶּ֧ם

this also from
מֵעִ֥ם
me
פָּנַ֖י
befall him
וְקָרָ֣הוּ
and mischief
אָס֑וֹן
ye shall bring down
וְהֽוֹרַדְתֶּ֧ם
 
אֶת
my gray hairs
שֵֽׂיבָתִ֛י
with sorrow
בְּרָעָ֖ה
to the grave
שְׁאֹֽלָה׃

וְעַתָּ֗ה
Now therefore when I come
כְּבֹאִי֙

to thy servant
עַבְדְּךָ֣
my father

and the lad
וְהַנַּ֖עַר
 
אֵינֶנּ֣וּ
 
אִתָּ֑נוּ
be not with us seeing that his life
בְנַפְשֽׁוֹ׃
is bound up
קְשׁוּרָ֥ה
be not with us seeing that his life
בְנַפְשֽׁוֹ׃

וְהָיָ֗ה
It shall come to pass when he seeth
כִּרְאוֹת֛וֹ

that the lad
הַנַּ֖עַר
is not with us that he will die
וָמֵ֑ת
shall bring down
וְהוֹרִ֨ידוּ
and thy servants
עַבְדְּךָ֥

the gray hairs

אָבִ֛ינוּ
with sorrow
בְּיָג֖וֹן
to the grave

be not with me lest peradventure I see
אֶרְאֶ֣ה
the evil
בָרָ֔ע
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר
that shall come on
יִמְצָ֖א

my father
