After
אַֽחֲרֵי

כֵ֗ן
this opened
פָּתַ֤ח
Job
אִיּוֹב֙

אֶת
his mouth
פִּ֔יהוּ
and cursed
וַיְקַלֵּ֖ל

אֶת
his day
יוֹמֽוֹ׃
2
spake
וַיַּ֥עַן
And Job
אִיּ֗וֹב
and said
וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
3
perish
יֹ֣אבַד
Let the day
י֭וֹם
wherein I was born
אִוָּ֣לֶד

בּ֑וֹ
and the night
וְהַלַּ֥יְלָה
in which it was said
אָ֝מַ֗ר

הֹ֣רָה
There is a man child
גָֽבֶר׃
4
Let that day
הַיּ֥וֹם

הַה֗וּא

יְֽהִ֫י
be darkness
חֹ֥שֶׁךְ

אַֽל
regard
יִדְרְשֵׁ֣הוּ
let not God
אֱל֣וֹהַּ
it from above
מִמָּ֑עַל

וְאַל
shine
תּוֹפַ֖ע

עָלָ֣יו
neither let the light
נְהָרָֽה׃
5
stain
יִגְאָלֻ֡הוּ
Let darkness
חֹ֣שֶׁךְ
and the shadow of death
וְ֭צַלְמָוֶת
dwell
תִּשְׁכָּן

עָלָ֣יו
it let a cloud
עֲנָנָ֑ה
terrify
יְ֝בַֽעֲתֻ֗הוּ
upon it let the blackness
כִּֽמְרִ֥ירֵי
of the day
יֽוֹם׃
6
As for that night
הַלַּ֥יְלָה

הַהוּא֮
seize
יִקָּחֵ֪ה֫וּ
let darkness
אֹ֥פֶל

אַל
upon it let it not be joined
יִ֭חַדְּ
unto the days
בִּימֵ֣י
of the year
שָׁנָ֑ה
into the number
בְּמִסְפַּ֥ר
of the months
יְ֝רָחִ֗ים

אַל
let it not come
יָבֹֽא׃
7

הִנֵּ֤ה
Lo let that night
הַלַּ֣יְלָה

הַ֭הוּא

יְהִ֣י
be solitary
גַלְמ֑וּד

אַל
come
תָּב֖וֹא
let no joyful voice
רְנָנָ֣ה

בֽוֹ׃
8
Let them curse
יִקְּבֻ֥הוּ
it that curse
אֹֽרְרֵי
the day
י֑וֹם
who are ready
הָֽ֝עֲתִידִ֗ים
to raise up
עֹרֵ֥ר
their mourning
לִוְיָתָֽן׃
9
thereof be dark
יֶחְשְׁכוּ֮
Let the stars
כּֽוֹכְבֵ֪י
of the twilight
נִ֫שְׁפּ֥וֹ
let it look
יְקַו
for light
לְא֥וֹר

וָאַ֑יִן

וְאַל
but have none neither let it see
יִ֝רְאֶ֗ה
the dawning
בְּעַפְעַפֵּי
of the day
שָֽׁחַר׃
10

כִּ֤י

לֹ֣א

why did I not give up the ghost
וְאֶגְוָֽע׃
12

מַ֭דּוּעַ
prevent
קִדְּמ֣וּנִי
Why did the knees
בִרְכָּ֑יִם

וּמַה
me or why the breasts
שָּׁ֝דַ֗יִם

כִּ֣י
that I should suck
אִינָֽק׃
13

כִּֽי

עַ֭תָּה
For now should I have lain still
שָׁכַ֣בְתִּי
and been quiet
וְאֶשְׁק֑וֹט
I should have slept
יָ֝שַׁ֗נְתִּי

אָ֤ז׀
then had I been at rest
יָנ֬וּחַֽ

לִֽי׃
14

עִם
With kings
מְ֭לָכִים
and counsellors

which built
הַבֹּנִ֖ים
desolate places

לָֽמוֹ׃
15

א֣וֹ

עִם
Or with princes
שָׂ֭רִים
that had gold
זָהָ֣ב

לָהֶ֑ם
who filled
הַֽמְמַלְאִ֖ים
their houses
בָּֽתֵּיהֶ֣ם
with silver
כָּֽסֶף׃

I had not been as infants
כְּ֝עֹֽלְלִ֗ים

לֹא

שָׁ֣ם
There the wicked
רְ֭שָׁעִים

from troubling

וְשָׁ֥ם

יָ֝נ֗וּחוּ
and there the weary
יְגִ֣יעֵי

כֹֽחַ׃
18
together
יַ֭חַד
There the prisoners
אֲסִירִ֣ים

שַֽׁאֲנָ֑נוּ
