against me and compassed

וַיַּקַּ֖ף

me with gall

רֹ֥אשׁ

and travail

וּתְלָאָֽה׃

me in dark places

בְּמַחֲשַׁכִּ֥ים

He hath set

הוֹשִׁיבַ֖נִי

as they that be dead

כְּמֵתֵ֥י

of old

עוֹלָֽם׃

He hath hedged

גָּדַ֧ר

וְלֹ֥א

me about that I cannot get out

with hewn stone

בְּגָזִ֔ית

he hath made my paths

נְתִיבֹתַ֖י

crooked

עִוָּֽה׃

He was unto me as a bear

lying in wait

הוּא֙

 

לִ֔י

and as a lion

אֲרִ֖יה

in secret places

בְּמִסְתָּרִֽים׃

my ways

דְּרָכַ֥י

He hath turned aside

סוֹרֵ֛ר

and pulled me in pieces

וַֽיְפַשְּׁחֵ֖נִי

he hath made

שָׂמַ֥נִי

me desolate

שֹׁמֵֽם׃

He hath bent

דָּרַ֤ךְ

his bow

קַשְׁתּוֹ֙

and set

וַיַּצִּיבֵ֔נִי

me as a mark

כַּמַּטָּרָ֖א

for the arrow

לַחֵֽץ׃

to enter

הֵבִיא֙

into my reins

בְּכִלְיוֹתָ֔י

He hath caused the arrows

בְּנֵ֖י

of his quiver

אַשְׁפָּתֽוֹ׃

 

הָיִ֤יתִי

I was a derision

שְּׂחֹק֙

 

לְכָל

to all my people

עַמִּ֔י

and their song

נְגִינָתָ֖ם

 

כָּל

all the day

הַיּֽוֹם׃

He hath filled

הִשְׂבִּיעַ֥נִי

me with bitterness

בַמְּרוֹרִ֖ים

he hath made me drunken

הִרְוַ֥נִי

with wormwood

לַעֲנָֽה׃

He hath also broken

וַיַּגְרֵ֤ס

with gravel stones

בֶּֽחָצָץ֙

my teeth

שִׁנָּ֔י

he hath covered

הִכְפִּישַׁ֖נִי

me with ashes

בָּאֵֽפֶר׃

And thou hast removed

וַתִּזְנַ֧ח

from peace

מִשָּׁל֛וֹם

my soul

נַפְשִׁ֖י

I forgat

נָשִׁ֥יתִי

prosperity

טוֹבָֽה׃

And I said

וָאֹמַר֙

is perished

אָבַ֣ד

My strength

נִצְחִ֔י

and my hope

וְתוֹחַלְתִּ֖י

from the LORD

מֵיְהוָֽה׃

Remembering

זְכָר

mine affliction

עָנְיִ֥י

and my misery

וּמְרוּדִ֖י

the wormwood

לַעֲנָ֥ה

and the gall

וָרֹֽאשׁ׃

hath them still

תִּזְכּ֔וֹר

hath them still

תִּזְכּ֔וֹר

and is humbled

וְתָשׁ֥יֹחַ

 

עָלַ֖י

My soul

נַפְשִֽׁי׃

This I recall

therefore have I hope

mercies

is thy faithfulness

is my portion

חֶלְקִ֤י

The LORD

יְהוָה֙

saith

אָמְרָ֣ה

my soul

נַפְשִׁ֔י

therefore will I hope

אוֹחִ֥יל

 

לֽוֹ׃

is good

ט֤וֹב

The LORD

יְהוָה֙

unto them that wait

לְקוָֹ֔ו

for him to the soul

לְנֶ֖פֶשׁ

that seeketh

תִּדְרְשֶֽׁנּוּ׃

It is good

וְיָחִיל֙

and quietly wait

וְדוּמָ֔ם

for the salvation

לִתְשׁוּעַ֖ת

of the LORD

It is good

for a man

לַגֶּ֔בֶר

that he bear

יִשָּׂ֥א

the yoke

עֹ֖ל

in his youth

בִּנְעוּרָֽיו׃

He sitteth

יֵשֵׁ֤ב

alone

בָּדָד֙

and keepeth silence

וְיִדֹּ֔ם

 

כִּ֥י

because he hath borne

נָטַ֖ל

 

עָלָֽיו׃

He putteth

יִתֵּ֤ן

in the dust

בֶּֽעָפָר֙

his mouth

פִּ֔יהוּ

 

אוּלַ֖י

if so be there may be

יֵ֥שׁ

hope

תִּקְוָֽה׃

He giveth

יִתֵּ֧ן

to him that smiteth

לְמַכֵּ֛הוּ

his cheek

לֶ֖חִי

him he is filled full

יִשְׂבַּ֥ע

with reproach

בְּחֶרְפָּֽה׃

will not cast off

יִזְנַ֛ח

for ever

But though he cause grief

הוֹגָ֔ה

yet will he have compassion

וְרִחַ֖ם

according to the multitude

כְּרֹ֥ב

of his mercies

חֲסָדָֽו׃

For he doth not afflict

עִנָּה֙

willingly

מִלִּבּ֔וֹ

nor grieve

thou hast not pardoned

סָלָֽחְתָּ׃

Thou hast covered

סַכּ֤וֹתָה

with anger

בָאַף֙

and persecuted

וַֽתִּרְדְּפֵ֔נוּ

us thou hast slain

הָרַ֖גְתָּ

 

לֹ֥א

thou hast not pitied

חָמָֽלְתָּ׃

Thou hast covered

סַכּ֤וֹתָה

thyself with a cloud

בֶֽעָנָן֙

 

לָ֔ךְ

should not pass through

מֵעֲב֖וֹר

that our prayer

תְּפִלָּֽה׃

us as the offscouring

Thou hast made

תְּשִׂימֵ֖נוּ

All our enemies

is come upon us desolation

Fear
