are set on edge

תִּקְהֶֽינָה׃

As I live

חַי

 

אָ֕נִי

saith

נְאֻ֖ם

the Lord

אֲדֹנָ֣י

GOD

יְהוִ֑ה

 

אִם

 

יִֽהְיֶ֨ה

 

לָכֶ֜ם

 

ע֗וֹד

ye shall not have occasion any more to use

מְשֹׁ֛ל

this proverb

הַמָּשָׁ֥ל

 

הַזֶּ֖ה

in Israel

בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

 

הֵ֤ן

 

כָּל

Behold all souls

הַנֶּ֥פֶשׁ

 

לִ֣י

 

הֵ֔נָּה

Behold all souls

of the father

הָאָ֛ב

Behold all souls

הַנֶּ֥פֶשׁ

of the son

הַבֵּ֖ן

 

לִי

 

הֵ֑נָּה

Behold all souls

הַנֶּ֥פֶשׁ

that sinneth

הַחֹטֵ֖את

 

הִ֥יא

it shall die

תָמֽוּת׃

But if a man

וְאִ֖ישׁ

 

כִּי

 

יִהְיֶ֣ה

be just

צַדִּ֑יק

and do

וְעָשָׂ֥ה

that which is lawful

מִשְׁפָּ֖ט

and right

וּצְדָקָֽה׃

 

אֶל

upon the mountains

הֶֽהָרִים֙

 

לֹ֣א

And hath not eaten

אָכָ֔ל

his eyes

וְעֵינָיו֙

 

לֹ֣א

neither hath lifted up

נָשָׂ֔א

 

אֶל

to the idols

גִּלּוּלֵ֖י

of the house

בֵּ֣ית

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

 

וְאֶת

wife

אִשָּׁ֥ה

his neighbour's

רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙

 

לֹ֣א

neither hath defiled

טִמֵּ֔א

 

וְאֶל

wife

אִשָּׁ֥ה

to a menstruous

נִדָּ֖ה

 

לֹ֥א

neither hath come near

יִקְרָֽב׃

any

וְאִישׁ֙

 

לֹ֣א

And hath not oppressed

יוֹנֶ֔ה

his pledge

חֲבֹלָת֥וֹ

to the debtor

חוֹב֙

but hath restored

יָשִׁ֔יב

none by violence

גְּזֵלָ֖ה

 

לֹ֣א

hath spoiled

יִגְזֹ֑ל

his bread

לַחְמוֹ֙

to the hungry

לְרָעֵ֣ב

hath given

יִתֵּ֔ן

the naked

וְעֵירֹ֖ם

and hath covered

יְכַסֶּה

with a garment

בָּֽגֶד׃

upon usury

בַּנֶּ֣שֶׁךְ

 

לֹֽא

He that hath not given forth

יִתֵּ֗ן

any increase

וְתַרְבִּית֙

neither hath taken

יִקָּ֔ח

from iniquity

מֵעָ֖וֶל

that hath withdrawn

יָשִׁ֣יב

his hand

יָד֑וֹ

judgment

מִשְׁפַּ֤ט

אֱמֶת֙

hath executed

יַֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה

 

בֵּ֥ין

and man

לְאִֽישׁ׃

and man

לְאִֽישׁ׃

in my statutes

בְּחֻקּוֹתַ֧י

Hath walked

יְהַלֵּ֛ךְ

my judgments

וּמִשְׁפָּטַ֥י

and hath kept

שָׁמַ֖ר

to deal

לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת

truly

אֱמֶ֑ת

he is just

צַדִּ֥יק

 

הוּא֙

he shall surely

יִֽחְיֶ֔ה

he shall surely

יִֽחְיֶ֔ה

saith

נְאֻ֖ם

the Lord

אֲדֹנָ֥י

GOD

יְהוִֽה׃

If he beget

וְהוֹלִ֥יד

a son

בֵּן

that is a robber

פָּרִ֖יץ

a shedder

שֹׁפֵ֣ךְ

of blood

דָּ֑ם

and that doeth

וְעָ֣שָׂה

the like

אָ֔ח

to any one

מֵאַחַ֖ד

 

מֵאֵֽלֶּה׃

 

וְה֕וּא

 

אֶת

 

כָּל

 

אֵ֖לֶּה

 

לֹ֣א

And that doeth

עָשָׂ֑ה

 

כִּ֣י

 

גַ֤ם

 

אֶל

upon the mountains

הֶֽהָרִים֙

not any of those duties but even hath eaten

אָכַ֔ל

 

וְאֶת

wife

אֵ֥שֶׁת

his neighbour's

רֵעֵ֖הוּ

and defiled

טִמֵּֽא׃

the poor

עָנִ֤י

and needy

וְאֶבְיוֹן֙

Hath oppressed

הוֹנָ֔ה

by violence

גְּזֵל֣וֹת

hath spoiled

גָּזָ֔ל

the pledge

חֲבֹ֖ל

 

לֹ֣א

hath not restored

יָשִׁ֑יב

 

וְאֶל

to the idols

הַגִּלּוּלִים֙

and hath lifted up

נָשָׂ֣א

his eyes

עֵינָ֔יו

abomination

תּוֹעֵבָ֖ה

hath committed

עָשָֽׂה׃

upon usury

בַּנֶּ֧שֶׁךְ

Hath given forth

נָתַ֛ן

וְתַרְבִּ֥ית

and hath taken

לָקַ֖ח

shall he then live

וָחָ֑י

וְהִנֵּה֙

Now lo if he beget

הוֹלִ֣יד

a son

בֵּ֔ן

and considereth

וַיִּרְאֶ֕ה

כָּל

sins

חַטֹּ֥את

all his father's

אָבִ֖יו

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

and doeth

יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה

and considereth

וַיִּרְאֶ֕ה

יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה

כָּהֵֽן׃

 

עַל

לֹא

that which is not good

ט֛וֹב

and did

עָשָׂ֖ה

בְּת֣וֹךְ

his people

עַמָּ֑יו

 

וְהִנֵּה

lo even he shall die

מֵ֖ת

in his iniquity

בַּעֲוֺנֽוֹ׃

Yet say

וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם

 

מַדֻּ֛עַ

 

לֹא

נָשָׂ֥א

When the son

וְהַבֵּ֞ן

the iniquity

בַּעֲוֺ֣ן

of the father

הָאָ֑ב

that which is lawful

מִשְׁפָּ֧ט

the righteousness

צִדְקַ֤ת

shall be upon him and the wickedness

וְרִשְׁעַ֥ת

of the wicked

רָשָׁ֖ע

 

עָלָ֥יו

 

תִּֽהְיֶֽה׃

But if the wicked

וְהָרָשָׁ֗ע

 

כִּ֤י

will turn

יָשׁוּב֙

 

מִכָּל

from all his sins

חַטֹּאתָו֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

and do

וְעָשָׂ֥ה

and keep

וְשָׁמַר֙

 

אֶת

 

כָּל

all my statutes

חֻקוֹתַ֔י

and do

וְעָשָׂ֥ה

that which is lawful

מִשְׁפָּ֖ט

and right

וּצְדָקָ֑ה

he shall surely

יִחְיֶ֖ה

he shall surely

יִחְיֶ֖ה

 

לֹ֥א

he shall not die

יָמֽוּת׃

 

כָּל

All his transgressions

פְּשָׁעָיו֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

that he hath committed

עָשָׂ֖ה

 

לֹ֥א

they shall not be mentioned

יִזָּכְר֖וּ

 

ל֑וֹ

unto him in his righteousness

בְּצִדְקָת֥וֹ

 

אֲשֶׁר

that he hath committed

עָשָׂ֖ה

he shall live

יִֽחְיֶֽה׃

Have I any pleasure

אֶחְפֹּץ֙

Have I any pleasure

אֶחְפֹּץ֙

should die

מ֣וֹת

that the wicked

רָשָׁ֔ע

saith

נְאֻ֖ם

the Lord

אֲדֹנָ֣י

GOD

יְהוִ֑ה

 

הֲל֛וֹא

and not that he should return

בְּשׁוּב֥וֹ

from his ways

מִדְּרָכָ֖יו

and live

וְחָיָֽה׃

turneth away

וּבְשׁ֨וּב

But when the righteous

צַדִּ֤יק

All his righteousness

צִדְקֹתָ֤ו

and committeth

עָשָׂה֙

iniquity

עָ֔וֶל

 

כְּכֹ֨ל

according to all the abominations

הַתּוֹעֵב֜וֹת

 

אֲשֶׁר

and committeth

עָשָׂה֙

that the wicked

הָרָשָׁ֛ע

and committeth

עָשָׂה֙

shall he live

וָחָ֑י

 

כָּל

All his righteousness

צִדְקֹתָ֤ו

 

אֲשֶׁר

and committeth

עָשָׂה֙

 

לֹ֣א

shall not be mentioned

תִזָּכַ֔רְנָה

in his trespass

בְּמַעֲל֧וֹ

 

אֲשֶׁר

that he hath trespassed

מָעַ֛ל

and in his sin

וּבְחַטָּאת֥וֹ

 

אֲשֶׁר

that he hath sinned

חָטָ֖א

 

בָּ֥ם

in them shall he die

יָמֽוּת׃

Yet ye say

וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם

 

לֹ֥א

equal

יִתָּכֵֽנוּ׃

Is not my way

דַרְכֵיכֶ֖ם

of the Lord

Hear

שִׁמְעוּ

now O house

When a righteous

צַדִּ֧יק

from his righteousness

מִצִּדְקָת֛וֹ

and committeth

עָשָׂ֖ה

in them for his iniquity

בְּעַוְל֥וֹ

and dieth

יָמֽוּת׃

 

עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם

in them for his iniquity

בְּעַוְל֥וֹ

 

אֲשֶׁר

עָשָׂ֖ה

וּבְשׁ֣וּב

Again when the wicked

רָשָׁ֗ע

from his wickedness

מֵֽרִשְׁעָתוֹ֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

and doeth

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ

and doeth

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ

that which is lawful

מִשְׁפָּ֖ט

and right

וּצְדָקָ֑ה

 

ה֖וּא

נַפְשׁ֥וֹ

Because he considereth

וַיִּרְאֶ֣ה

Repent

וְהָשִׁ֙יבוּ֙

מִכָּל

yourselves from all your transgressions

פִּשְׁעֵיכֶ֔ם

 

וְלֹֽא

 

יִהְיֶ֥ה

 

לָכֶ֛ם

shall not be your ruin

לְמִכְשׁ֖וֹל

so iniquity

עָוֹֽן׃

Cast away

הַשְׁלִ֣יכוּ

 

מֵעֲלֵיכֶ֗ם

 

אֶת

 

כָּל

from you all your transgressions

פִּשְׁעֵיכֶם֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

whereby ye have transgressed

פְּשַׁעְתֶּ֣ם

 

בָּ֔ם

and make

וַעֲשׂ֥וּ

 

לָכֶ֛ם

heart

לֵ֥ב

and a new

חֲדָשָׁ֑ה

spirit

וְר֣וּחַ

and a new

חֲדָשָׁ֑ה

 

וְלָ֥מָּה

for why will ye die

תָמֻ֖תוּ

O house

בֵּ֥ית

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

 

כִּ֣י

 

לֹ֤א

For I have no pleasure

אֶחְפֹּץ֙

in the death

בְּמ֣וֹת

of him that dieth

הַמֵּ֔ת

saith

נְאֻ֖ם

the Lord

אֲדֹנָ֣י

GOD

יְהוִ֑ה

wherefore turn

וְהָשִׁ֖יבוּ

yourselves and live

וִֽחְיֽוּ׃
