of Zion

אֵלֶ֛יהָ

shall come

יָבֹ֥אוּ

The shepherds

רָע֖וּ

with their flocks

וְעֶדְרֵיהֶ֑ם

unto her they shall pitch

Woe

פָנָ֣ה

unto us! for the day

for the shadows

Arise

ק֚וּמוּ

and let us go

וְנַעֲלֶ֣ה

by night

בַלָּ֔יְלָה

and let us destroy

וְנַשְׁחִ֖יתָה

her palaces

אַרְמְנוֹתֶֽיהָ׃

said

אָמַר֙

For thus hath the LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

of hosts

צְבָא֔וֹת

Hew ye down

כִּרְת֣וּ

trees

עֵצָ֔ה

and cast

וְשִׁפְכ֥וּ

 

עַל

against Jerusalem

יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם

a mount

סֹלְלָ֑ה

 

הִ֚יא

this is the city

הָעִ֣יר

to be visited

הָפְקַ֔ד

 

כֻּלָּ֖הּ

she is wholly oppression

עֹ֥שֶׁק

in the midst

בְּקִרְבָּֽהּ׃

casteth out

הֵקֵ֣רָה

As a fountain

בַּ֙וִר֙

her waters

מֵימֶ֔יהָ

 

כֵּ֖ן

casteth out

הֵקֵ֣רָה

her wickedness

רָעָתָ֑הּ

Be thou instructed

הִוָּסְרִי֙

O Jerusalem

from thee lest I make

אֲשִׂימֵ֣ךְ

Thus saith

אָמַר֙

the LORD

יְהוָֹ֣ה

of hosts

צְבָא֔וֹת

They shall throughly

יְעוֹלְל֥וּ

They shall throughly

יְעוֹלְל֥וּ

as a vine

כַגֶּ֖פֶן

the remnant

שְׁאֵרִ֣ית

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

turn back

הָשֵׁב֙

thine hand

יָדְךָ֔

as a grapegatherer

כְּבוֹצֵ֖ר

 

עַל

into the baskets

סַלְסִלּֽוֹת׃

 

עַל

 

מִ֨י

To whom shall I speak

אֲדַבְּרָ֤ה

and give warning

וְאָעִ֙ידָה֙

that they may hear

וְיִשְׁמָ֔עוּ

 

הִנֵּה֙

is uncircumcised

עֲרֵלָ֣ה

behold their ear

אָזְנָ֔ם

 

וְלֹ֥א

and they cannot

יוּכְל֖וּ

hearken

לְהַקְשִׁ֑יב

 

הִנֵּ֣ה

behold the word

דְבַר

of the LORD

יְהוָ֗ה

 

הָיָ֥ה

 

לָהֶ֛ם

is unto them a reproach

לְחֶרְפָּ֖ה

 

לֹ֥א

they have no delight

יַחְפְּצוּ

 

בֽוֹ׃

 

וְאֵת֩

of the fury

חֲמַ֨ת

of the LORD

יְהוָ֤ה׀

Therefore I am full

מָלֵ֙אתִי֙

I am weary

נִלְאֵ֣יתִי

with holding in

הָכִ֔יל

I will pour it out

שְׁפֹ֤ךְ

upon the children

עוֹלָל֙

abroad

בַּח֔וּץ

 

וְעַ֛ל

and upon the assembly

ס֥וֹד

of young men

בַּחוּרִ֖ים

together

יַחְדָּ֑ו

 

כִּֽי

 

גַם

for even the husband

אִ֤ישׁ

 

עִם

with the wife

אִשָּׁה֙

shall be taken

יִלָּכֵ֔דוּ

the aged

זָקֵ֖ן

 

עִם

with him that is full

מְלֵ֥א

of days

יָמִֽים׃

shall be turned

וְנָסַ֤בּוּ

And their houses

בָֽתֵּיהֶם֙

unto others

לַאֲחֵרִ֔ים

with their fields

שָׂד֥וֹת

and wives

וְנָשִׁ֖ים

יַחְדָּ֑ו

 

כִּֽי

for I will stretch out

אַטֶּ֧ה

my hand

יָדִ֛י

 

עַל

upon the inhabitants

יֹשְׁבֵ֥י

of the land

הָאָ֖רֶץ

saith

נְאֻם

the LORD

כִּ֤י

For from the least

מִקְּטַנָּם֙

 

וְעַד

of them even unto the greatest

גְּדוֹלָ֔ם

 

כֻּלּ֖וֹ

of them every one is given

בּוֹצֵ֣עַ

to covetousness

בָּ֑צַע

and from the prophet

וּמִנָּבִיא֙

 

וְעַד

even unto the priest

כֹּהֵ֔ן

every one dealeth

עֹ֥שֶׂה

falsely

שָּֽׁקֶר׃

They have healed

וַֽיְרַפְּא֞וּ

לִנְתִב֣וֹת

זֶ֨ה

way

דֶ֤רֶךְ

where is the good

הַטּוֹב֙

 

וּלְכוּ

 

בָ֔הּ

therein and ye shall find

וּמִצְא֥וּ

rest

מַרְגּ֖וֹעַ

for your souls

לְנַפְשְׁכֶ֑ם

But they said

וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ

 

לֹ֥א

 

נֵלֵֽךְ׃

Also I set

וַהֲקִמֹתִ֤י

 

עֲלֵיכֶם֙

watchmen

צֹפִ֔ים

We will not hearken

נַקְשִֽׁיב׃

to the sound

לְק֣וֹל

of the trumpet

שׁוֹפָ֑ר

But they said

וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ

 

לֹ֥א

We will not hearken

נַקְשִֽׁיב׃

 

לָכֵ֖ן

Therefore hear

שִׁמְע֣וּ

ye nations

הַגּוֹיִ֑ם

and know

וּדְעִ֥י

O congregation

עֵדָ֖ה

 

אֶת

 

אֲשֶׁר

 

בָּֽם׃

Hear

שִׁמְעִ֣י

O earth

הָאָ֔רֶץ

 

הִנֵּ֨ה

 

אָנֹכִ֜י

behold I will bring

מֵבִ֥יא

evil

רָעָ֛ה

 

אֶל

upon this people

הָעָ֥ם

 

הַזֶּ֖ה

even the fruit

פְּרִ֣י

of their thoughts

מַחְשְׁבוֹתָ֑ם

 

כִּ֤י

 

עַל

unto my words

דְּבָרַי֙

 

לֹ֣א

because they have not hearkened

הִקְשִׁ֔יבוּ

nor to my law

וְתוֹרָתִ֖י

but rejected

וַיִּמְאֲסוּ

 

בָֽהּ׃

 

לָמָּה

 

זֶּ֨ה

 

לִ֤י

there to me incense

לְבוֹנָה֙

from Sheba

מִשְּׁבָ֣א

To what purpose cometh

תָב֔וֹא

cane

וְקָנֶ֥ה

and the sweet

הַטּ֖וֹב

country

מֵאֶ֣רֶץ

from a far

מֶרְחָ֑ק

your burnt offerings

עֹלֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙

 

לֹ֣א

are not acceptable

לְרָצ֔וֹן

nor your sacrifices

וְזִבְחֵיכֶ֖ם

 

לֹא

sweet

עָ֥רְבוּ

 

לִֽי׃

 

לָכֵ֗ן

 

כֹּ֚ה

Therefore thus saith

אָמַ֣ר

the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

 

הִנְנִ֥י

Behold I will lay

נֹתֵ֛ן

 

אֶל

before this people

הָעָ֥ם

 

הַזֶּ֖ה

stumblingblocks

מִכְשֹׁלִ֑ים

shall fall

וְכָ֣שְׁלוּ

 

בָ֠ם

and the fathers

אָב֨וֹת

and the sons

וּבָנִ֥ים

together

יַחְדָּ֛ו

upon them the neighbour

שָׁכֵ֥ן

and his friend

וְרֵע֖וֹ

shall perish

יְאָבָֽדוּ׃

 

כֹּ֚ה

Thus saith

אָמַ֣ר

the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

 

הִנֵּ֛ה

Behold a people

עַ֥ם

cometh

בָּ֖א

country

אָֽרֶץ׃

from the north

צָפ֑וֹן

nation

וְג֣וֹי

and a great

גָּד֔וֹל

shall be raised

יֵע֖וֹר

from the sides

מִיַּרְכְּתֵי

country

אָֽרֶץ׃

on bow

קֶ֣שֶׁת

and spear

וְכִיד֞וֹן

They shall lay hold

יַחֲזִ֗יקוּ

they are cruel

אַכְזָרִ֥י

 

הוּא֙

 

וְלֹ֣א

and have no mercy

יְרַחֵ֔מוּ

their voice

קוֹלָם֙

like the sea

כַּיָּ֣ם

roareth

יֶהֱמֶ֔ה

 

וְעַל

upon horses

סוּסִ֖ים

and they ride

יִרְכָּ֑בוּ

set in array

עָר֗וּךְ

as men

כְּאִישׁ֙

for war

לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה

 

עָלַ֖יִךְ

against thee O daughter

בַּת

of Zion

צִיּֽוֹן׃

We have heard

שָׁמַ֥עְנוּ

 

אֶת

the fame

שָׁמְע֖וֹ

wax feeble

רָפ֣וּ

thereof our hands

יָדֵ֑ינוּ

anguish

צָרָה֙

hath taken hold

הֶחֱזִקַ֔תְנוּ

of us and pain

חִ֖יל

as of a woman in travail

כַּיּוֹלֵדָֽה׃

 

אַל

Go not forth

תֵּֽצְאיּ֙

into the field

הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה

by the way

וּבַדֶּ֖רֶךְ

 

אַל

 

תֵּלֵ֑כיּ

 

כִּ֚י

for the sword

חֶ֣רֶב

of the enemy

לְאֹיֵ֔ב

and fear

מָג֖וֹר

is on every side

מִסָּבִֽיב׃

O daughter

בַּת

of my people

עַמִּ֤י

gird

חִגְרִי

thee with sackcloth

שָׂק֙

and wallow

וְהִתְפַּלְּשִׁ֣י

thyself in ashes

בָאֵ֔פֶר

thee mourning

אֵ֤בֶל

as for an only son

יָחִיד֙

make

עֲשִׂ֣י

 

לָ֔ךְ

lamentation

מִסְפַּ֖ד

most bitter

תַּמְרוּרִ֑ים

 

כִּ֣י

shall suddenly

פִתְאֹ֔ם

יָבֹ֥א

for the spoiler

הַשֹּׁדֵ֖ד

 

עָלֵֽינוּ׃

thee for a tower

בָּח֛וֹן

I have set

נְתַתִּ֥יךָ

among my people

בְעַמִּ֖י

and a fortress

מִבְצָ֑ר

that thou mayest know

וְתֵדַ֕ע

and try

וּבָחַנְתָּ֖

their way

דַּרְכָּֽם׃

 

כֻּלָּם֙

They are all grievous

סָרֵ֣י

revolters

סֽוֹרְרִ֔ים

walking

הֹלְכֵ֥י

with slanders

רָכִ֖יל

they are brass

נְחֹ֣שֶׁת

and iron

וּבַרְזֶ֑ל

 

כֻּלָּ֥ם

they are all corrupters

מַשְׁחִיתִ֖ים

 

הֵֽמָּה׃

are burned

נָחַ֣ר

The bellows

מַפֻּ֔חַ

of the fire

מֵאֵ֖שׁ

is consumed

תַּ֣ם

the lead

עֹפָ֑רֶת

in vain

לַשָּׁוְא֙

melteth

צָר֔וֹף

melteth

for the wicked

וְרָעִ֖ים
