רַבִּ֖ים

even unto the entering

פֶּ֥תַח

of the gate

הַשָּֽׁעַר׃

dwelt

מִשֶּׁ֥בֶת

And Abimelech

אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ

at Arumah

בָּֽארוּמָ֑ה

thrust out

וַיְגָ֧רֶשׁ

and Zebul

זְבֻ֛ל

 

אֶת

Gaal

גַּ֥עַל

 

וְאֶת

and his brethren

אֶחָ֖יו

dwelt

מִשֶּׁ֥בֶת

in Shechem

בִּשְׁכֶֽם׃

 

וַֽיְהִי֙

And it came to pass on the morrow

מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת

went out

וַיֵּצֵ֥א

that the people

הָעָ֖ם

into the field

הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה

and they told

וַיַּגִּ֖דוּ

Abimelech

לַֽאֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃

And he took

וַיִּקַּ֣ח

 

אֶת

and behold the people

הָעָם֙

and divided

וַיֶּֽחֱצֵם֙

them into three

לִשְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה

companies

רָאשִׁ֔ים

and laid wait

וַיֶּֽאֱרֹ֖ב

in the field

בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה

and looked

וַיַּ֗רְא

 

וְהִנֵּ֤ה

and behold the people

הָעָם֙

were come forth

יֹצֵ֣א

 

מִן

out of the city

הָעִ֔יר

and he rose up

וַיָּ֥קָם

 

עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם

against them and smote

וַיַּכֵּֽם׃

And Abimelech

וַֽאֲבִימֶ֗לֶךְ

and the company

הָֽרָאשִׁ֗ים

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

 

עִמּ֔וֹ

ran upon

פָּֽשְׁט֛וּ

and stood

וַיַּ֣עַמְד֔וּ

in the entering

פֶּ֖תַח

of the gate

שַׁ֣עַר

of the city

הָעִ֑יר

and the two

וּשְׁנֵ֣י

and the company

הָֽרָאשִׁ֗ים

ran upon

פָּֽשְׁט֛וּ

 

עַֽל

 

כָּל

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

all the people that were in the fields

בַּשָּׂדֶ֖ה

and slew

וַיַּכּֽוּם׃

And Abimelech

וַֽאֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ

fought

נִלְחָ֣ם

against the city

הָעִ֔יר

 

כֹּ֚ל

all that day

הַיּ֣וֹם

 

הַה֔וּא

and he took

וַיִּלְכֹּד֙

 

אֶת

against the city

הָעִ֔יר

 

וְאֶת

the people

הָעָ֥ם

 

אֲשֶׁר

 

בָּ֖הּ

and slew

הָרָ֑ג

that was therein and beat down

וַיִּתֹּץ֙

 

אֶת

against the city

הָעִ֔יר

and sowed

וַיִּזְרָעֶ֖הָ

it with salt

מֶֽלַח׃

heard

וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֔וּ

 

כָּֽל

And when all the men

בַּעֲלֵ֖י

of the tower

מִֽגְדַּל

of Shechem

שְׁכֶ֑ם

that they entered

וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ

 

אֶל

into an hold

צְרִ֔יחַ

of the house

בֵּ֖ית

of the god

אֵ֥ל

And it was told

וַיֻּגַּ֖ד

Abimelech

לַֽאֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

 

כִּ֣י

were gathered together

הִֽתְקַבְּצ֔וּ

 

כָּֽל

that all the men

בַּעֲלֵ֖י

of the tower

מִֽגְדַּל

of Shechem

שְׁכֶֽם׃

gat him up

וַיַּ֨עַל

And Abimelech

אֲבִימֶ֨לֶךְ

to mount

הַר

Zalmon

צַלְמ֗וֹן

 

הוּא֮

 

וְכָל

he and all the people

הָעָ֣ם

 

אֲשֶׁר

 

אִתּוֹ֒

took

וַיִּקַּח֩

And Abimelech

אֲבִימֶ֨לֶךְ

 

אֶת

an axe

הַקַּרְדֻּמּ֜וֹת

in his hand

בְּיָד֗וֹ

and cut down

וַיִּכְרֹת֙

a bough

שׂוֹכַ֣ת

from the trees

עֵצִ֔ים

and took

וַיִּ֨שָּׂאֶ֔הָ

it and laid

וַיָּ֖שֶׂם

 

עַל

it on his shoulder

שִׁכְמ֑וֹ

and said

וַיֹּ֜אמֶר

 

אֶל

he and all the people

הָעָ֣ם

 

אֲשֶׁר

 

עִמּ֗וֹ

 

מָ֤ה

that were with him What ye have seen

רְאִיתֶם֙

and do

עֲשׂ֥וּ

make haste

מַֽהֲר֖וּ

and do

עֲשׂ֥וּ

as I

כָמֽוֹנִי׃

likewise cut down

וַיִּכְרְת֨וּ

כָּל

And all the people

הָעָ֜ם

every man

אִ֥ישׁ

his bough

שׂוֹכֹ֗ה

 

וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ

 

אַֽחֲרֵ֤י

Abimelech

אֲבִימֶ֙לֶךְ֙

and put

וַיָּשִׂ֣ימוּ

 

עַֽל

the hold

הַצְּרִ֖יחַ

and set

וַיַּצִּ֧יתוּ

 

עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם

 

אֶֽת

the hold

הַצְּרִ֖יחַ

on fire

בָּאֵ֑שׁ

died

וַיָּמֻ֜תוּ

 

גַּ֣ם

 

כָּל

every man

אִ֥ישׁ

of the tower

מִֽגְדַּל

of Shechem

שְׁכֶ֛ם

also about a thousand

כְּאֶ֖לֶף

every man

אִ֥ישׁ

and women

וְאִשָּֽׁה׃

 

וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ

Abimelech

אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ

 

אֶל

בְּתֵבֵ֖ץ

and encamped

וַיִּ֥חַן

against Thebez

בְּתֵבֵ֖ץ

and took

וַֽיִּלְכְּדָֽהּ׃

of the tower

הַמִּגְדָּֽל׃

But there was a strong

עֹז֮

 

הָיָ֣ה

within

בְתוֹךְ

of the city

הָעִ֔יר

and thither fled

וַיָּנֻ֨סוּ

 

שָׁ֜מָּה

 

כָּל

all the men

הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֣ים

and women

וְהַנָּשִׁ֗ים

 

וְכֹל֙

and all they

בַּֽעֲלֵ֣י

of the city

הָעִ֔יר

and shut

וַֽיִּסְגְּר֖וּ

 

בַּֽעֲדָ֑ם

it to them and gat them up

וַֽיַּעֲל֖וּ

 

עַל

to the top

גַּ֥ג

of the tower

הַמִּגְדָּֽל׃

came

וַיָּבֹ֤א

And Abimelech

אֲבִימֶ֙לֶךְ֙

 

עַד

of the tower

הַמִּגְדָּ֖ל

and fought

וַיִּלָּ֖חֶם

 

בּ֑וֹ

against it and went hard

וַיִּגַּ֛שׁ

 

עַד

unto the door

פֶּ֥תַח

of the tower

הַמִּגְדָּ֖ל

to burn

לְשָׂרְפ֥וֹ

it with fire

בָאֵֽשׁ׃

וַתַּשְׁלֵ֞ךְ

woman

אִשָּׁ֥ה

And a certain

אַחַ֛ת

a piece

פֶּ֥לַח

of a millstone

רֶ֖כֶב

 

עַל

head

רֹ֣אשׁ

upon Abimelech's

אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

and all to brake

וַתָּ֖רִץ

 

אֶת

his skull

גֻּלְגָּלְתּֽוֹ׃

Then he called

וַיִּקְרָ֨א

hastily

מְהֵרָ֜ה

 

אֶל

him And his young man

נַֽעֲר֖וֹ

his armourbearer

נֹשֵׂ֣א

 

כֵלָ֗יו

and said

יֹ֥אמְרוּ

 

לוֹ֙

unto him Draw

שְׁלֹ֤ף

thy sword

חַרְבְּךָ֙

and he died

וַיָּמֹֽת׃

 

פֶּן

and said

יֹ֥אמְרוּ

 

לִ֖י

not of me A woman

אִשָּׁ֣ה

slew

הֲרָגָ֑תְהוּ

thrust him through

וַיִּדְקְרֵ֥הוּ

him And his young man

נַֽעֲר֖וֹ

and he died

וַיָּמֹֽת׃

saw

וַיִּרְא֥וּ

And when the men

אִ֥ישׁ

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

 

כִּ֣י

was dead

מֵ֣ת

that Abimelech

אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

 

וַיֵּֽלְכ֖וּ

And when the men

אִ֥ישׁ

unto his place

לִמְקֹמֽוֹ׃

rendered

וַיָּ֣שֶׁב

Thus God

אֱלֹהִ֔ים

the wickedness

רָעַ֣ת

of Abimelech

אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

 

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

which he did

עָשָׂה֙

unto his father

לְאָבִ֔יו

in slaying

לַֽהֲרֹ֖ג

 

אֶת

his seventy

שִׁבְעִ֥ים

brethren

אֶחָֽיו׃

 

וְאֵ֗ת

 

כָּל

And all the evil

רָעַת֙

 

אַנְשֵׁ֣י

of Shechem

שְׁכֶ֔ם

render

הֵשִׁ֥יב

did God

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

upon their heads

בְּרֹאשָׁ֑ם

and upon them came

וַתָּבֹ֣א

 

אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם

the curse

קִֽלֲלַ֖ת

of Jotham

יוֹתָ֥ם

the son

בֶּן

of Jerubbaal

יְרֻבָּֽעַל׃
