his soul

נַפְשׁ֥וֹ

But if the watchman

הַצֹּפֶ֥ה

see

יִרְאֶ֨ה

 

אֶת

חֶ֔רֶב

come

וַתָּב֣וֹא

 

וְלֹֽא

תָקַ֤ע

So thou O son

thee a watchman

צֹפֶ֥ה

I have set

נְתַתִּ֖יךָ

unto the house

לְבֵ֣ית

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

therefore thou shalt hear

וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֤

at my mouth

מִפִּי֙

the word

דָּבָ֔ר

and warn

וְהִזְהַרְתָּ֥

 

אֹתָ֖ם

 

מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

When I say

בְּאָמְרִ֣י

רָשָׁע֙

Nevertheless if thou warn

הִזְהַ֨רְתָּ

the wicked

רָשָׁ֤ע

from his way

מִדַּרְכּ֑וֹ

from it if he do not turn

שָׁ֖ב

 

מִמֶּ֔נָּה

 

וְלֹא

from it if he do not turn

שָׁ֖ב

מִדַּרְכּ֑וֹ

in his iniquity

but thou hast delivered

If our transgressions

פְשָׁעֵ֥ינוּ

and our sins

וְחַטֹּאתֵ֖ינוּ

אֲנַ֥חְנוּ

be upon us and we pine away

נְמַקִּ֖ים

 

וְאֵ֥יךְ

in them how should we then live

נִֽחְיֶֽה׃

The righteousness

צִדְקַ֣ת

neither shall the righteous

וְצַדִּ֗יק

 

לֹ֤א

shall not deliver

תַצִּילֶ֙נּוּ֙

for his righteousness in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

of his transgression

פִּשְׁע֔וֹ

as for the wickedness

וְרִשְׁעַ֤ת

of the wicked

הָֽרָשָׁע֙

 

לֹֽא

he shall not fall

יִכָּ֣שֶׁל

 

בָּ֔הּ

for his righteousness in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

that he turneth

שׁוּב֣וֹ

from his wickedness

מֵֽרִשְׁע֑וֹ

neither shall the righteous

וְצַדִּ֗יק

 

לֹ֥א

be able

יוּכַ֛ל

to live

לִֽחְי֥וֹת

 

בָּ֖הּ

for his righteousness in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

that he sinneth

חֲטֹאתֽוֹ׃

When I shall say

בְּאָמְרִ֤י

to the righteous

לַצַּדִּיק֙

live

יִֽחְיֶ֔ה

יִֽחְיֶ֔ה

 

וְהֽוּא

if he trust

בָטַ֥ח

 

עַל

all his righteousnesses

צִדְקֹתָו֙

and commit

עָשָׂ֖ה

but for his iniquity

וּבְעַוְל֥וֹ

 

כָּל

all his righteousnesses

צִדְקֹתָו֙

 

לֹ֣א

shall not be remembered

תִזָּכַ֔רְנָה

but for his iniquity

וּבְעַוְל֥וֹ

 

אֲשֶׁר

and commit

עָשָׂ֖ה

 

בּ֥וֹ

he shall die

יָמֽוּת׃

Again when I say

וּבְאָמְרִ֥י

unto the wicked

לָֽרָשָׁ֖ע

Thou shalt surely

תָּמ֑וּת

if he turn

וְשָׁב֙

from his sin

מֵֽחַטָּאת֔וֹ

and do

וְעָשָׂ֥ה

that which is lawful

and right

restore

יָשִׁ֤יב

If the wicked

רָשָׁע֙

that he had robbed

גְּזֵלָ֣ה

give again

יְשַׁלֵּ֔ם

in the statutes

בְּחֻקּ֤וֹת

of life

הַֽחַיִּים֙

walk

הָלַ֔ךְ

 

לְבִלְתִּ֖י

without committing

עֲשׂ֣וֹת

iniquity

עָ֑וֶל

he shall surely

יִֽחְיֶ֖ה

When the righteous

צַדִּ֥יק

from his righteousness

מִצִּדְקָת֖וֹ

וְעָ֣שָׂה

he shall even die

וּמֵ֖ת

 

בָּהֶֽם׃

turn

וּבְשׁ֤וּב

But if the wicked

רָשָׁע֙

from his wickedness

מֵֽרִשְׁעָת֔וֹ

and do

וְעָשָׂ֥ה

that which is lawful

מִשְׁפָּ֖ט

and right

וּצְדָקָ֑ה

 

עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם

 

ה֥וּא

he shall live

יִֽחְיֶֽה׃

Yet ye say

וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם

 

לֹ֥א

יִתָּכֵ֖ן

בַּחֲמִשָּׁ֥ה

לַחֹ֖דֶשׁ

of our captivity

לְגָלוּתֵ֑נוּ

בָּא

 

אֵלַ֨י

that one that had escaped

הַפָּלִ֧יט

out of Jerusalem

מִירוּשָׁלִַ֛ם

unto me saying

לֵאמֹ֖ר

is smitten

הֻכְּתָ֥ה

Now the hand

וְיַד

תִּשְׁפֹּ֑כוּ

the land

וְהָאָ֖רֶץ

and shall ye possess

תִּירָֽשׁוּ׃

Ye stand

עֲמַדְתֶּ֤ם

 

עַֽל

upon your sword

חַרְבְּכֶם֙

ye work

עֲשִׂיתֶ֣ן

abomination

תּוֹעֵבָ֔ה

every one

וְאִ֛ישׁ

אֵ֥שֶׁת

his neighbour's

רֵעֵ֖הוּ

and ye defile

טִמֵּאתֶ֑ם

וְהָאָ֖רֶץ

and him that is in the open

פְּנֵ֣י

field

הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה

As I live

לַחַיָּ֥ה

will I give

נְתַתִּ֖יו

to be devoured

לְאָכְל֑וֹ

 

וַאֲשֶׁ֛ר

and they that be in the forts

בַּמְּצָד֥וֹת

and in the caves

וּבַמְּעָר֖וֹת

of the pestilence

בַּדֶּ֥בֶר

shall die

יָמֽוּתוּ׃

For I will lay

וְנָתַתִּ֤י

 

אֶת

the land

הָאָ֙רֶץ֙

desolate

שְׁמָמָ֣ה

most

וּמְשַׁמָּ֔ה

shall cease

וְנִשְׁבַּ֖ת

and the pomp

גְּא֣וֹן

of her strength

עֻזָּ֑הּ

shall be desolate

וְשָֽׁמְמ֛וּ

and the mountains

הָרֵ֥י

of Israel

that none shall pass through

עוֹבֵֽר׃

Then shall they know

וְיָדְע֖וּ

 

כִּֽי

 

אֲנִ֣י

that I am the LORD

when I have laid

בְּתִתִּ֤י

the land

הָאָ֙רֶץ֙

desolate

שְׁמָמָ֣ה

most

וּמְשַׁמָּ֔ה

 

עַ֥ל

because of all their abominations

תּוֹעֲבֹתָ֖ם

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

which they have committed

עָשֽׂוּ׃

דְּבָרֶ֔יךָ

but they will not do

עֹשִׂ֔ים

 

כִּֽי

much love

עֲגָבִ֤ים

them for with their mouth

בְּפִיהֶם֙

 

הֵ֣מָּה

but they will not do

עֹשִׂ֔ים

after

אַחֲרֵ֥י

their covetousness

בִצְעָ֖ם

but their heart

לִבָּ֥ם

goeth

הֹלֵֽךְ׃

 

וְהִנְּךָ֤

 

לָהֶם֙

כְּשִׁ֣יר

And lo thou art unto them as a very lovely

עֲגָבִ֔ים

of one that hath a pleasant

יְפֵ֥ה

voice

ק֖וֹל

and can play well

וּמֵטִ֣ב

on an instrument

נַגֵּ֑ן

for they hear

וְשָֽׁמְעוּ֙

 

אֶת

thy words

דְּבָרֶ֔יךָ

but they do

וְעֹשִׂ֥ים

 

אֵינָ֖ם

 

אוֹתָֽם׃

lo it will come
